One hundred years
One hundred years ago, a mysterious rift opened up in Northern Africa, releasing creatures from dimensions untold into this world. These organisms, which later became known as Exofauna, quickly spread across the globe. Underestimated by humanity, they overpowered us, forcing us into major population centers and claiming the Earth as their own.
However, like an immune system adapting to a foreign disease, it seemed the universe provided humanity with a way to combat this new threat. The opening of an interdimensional fissure caused a sudden imbalance of cosmic energy, and humanity changed. People began being born with abilities never before seen in our species. Superpowers, some would call them.
Today, about half of humanity possesses one of these supernatural abilities. Some choose to use them selfishly and for their own personal gain. Others choose to hide them, yearning for the normal life of their ancestors. And others still... choose to fight.
Candrama Institute is the premier location for young souls willing and wishing to use their gifts for the good of Earth and Earthlings. Built high in the Himalayas on the foundations of an ancient shaolin temple, it is headed by the legendary supernatural monk Master Pahada. Password: Rift.
Here, students are trained to defend those who are defenseless, whether it be from the Exofauna or from those who would take advantage of their destructive forces to wreak havoc on the world.

Hi everyone! As promised, here's my Superpower RP. Schools always seem to work well as RP settings, so I couldn't resist. Um... I think the wall of text speaks for itself, so I'll just move on to the charrie sheet:

And now, some ground rules:
1. Maximum of 2 characters per person, but no limit to how many people can join. This is technically a school RP after all, so the more the merrier!
2. Concerning the superpowers, please try to be creative. Standard powers like flight, strength, etc. are acceptable, but I don't want everyone to have a generic ability.
3. You knew this was coming, but OP charries are a no-no. There can certainly be some students more skilled than others, but their powers should all be relatively equal at base level.
4. Shipping is absolutely allowed, as long as the other person is okay with it.
5. We're all gonna be in the same class, but at some point charries may be split into smaller teams of 2-3. So if you want to be in a team with someone feel free to ask them.
6. Last but not least: Feel free to add anything you see fit to add to the setting! That includes coming up with background characters, teachers, minor villains, etc. Don't leave everything to me!
Well, that about covers everything. This is kinda info-dense, as my RPs tend to be, so feel free to ask me any questions. I'll post my character(s) (haven't decided whether I'm making 1 or 2 yet) shortly after this goes up. I hope everyone has fun!

I totally understand that everyone's in school or almost in school now, so I'll totally forgive you if you join and need to drop out later.

Appearance: Brown hair dyed black with sea-green ends, green eyes, fair skin, some freckles across her nose, overall very beautiful.

Home Country: Ireland, but she doesn't have the accent.
Superpower: Depends on the condition she's in, but she can always turn into a mythical animal or an Exofauna.
Other (non-super) Talents: A good singer, does karate and par cour, is very athletic.
Weapon of Choice: Bow and arrow, sword.
Background Info: Was found by her adoptive parents on the beach, down by the water. Because of this everyone thinks she is a supernatural being. Her parents died when she was ten.

Okay, I've decided to do 1 charrie.
Name: Horatio Levitt
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: He looks, well, like a surfer dude. He is fairly athletic, tall, has tanned skin, and wavy medium-blonde hair. His eyes are about the color of a green glowstick. He usually wears sleeveless shirts but is obviously going to dress a little warmer for Candrama. He wears a sun pendant around his neck that belonged to his mother.
Personality: Generally pretty laid back and doesn't take many things seriously. However, this means he sometimes cracks jokes at completely inappropriate times. Very independent and likes to do things his way, probably because of how he was raised. Just wants to have fun and doesn't let anything bother him.
Home Country: Los Angeles, United States
Superpower: He is bioluminescent; he can emit white light from any part of his body. This can be dim enough to simply light up a dark room, or bright enough to temporarily blind an enemy. However, the brighter the light is and the more of his body he lights up at once, the faster he will get burnt out.
Other Talents: He is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, is good at building things, and can totally shred on the electric guitar (explained later)
Weapon of Choice: His guitar! He modified his electric guitar to morph into a two-handed battle axe with the flip of a switch. However, he rarely actually uses it and it's mostly just for show.
Background Info: He was raised by a single father who was very possessive and forbid him to use his power. To channel his frustrations, he started a rock band called Radiant Waves with a few of his friends, becoming the lead guitarist. To gain publicity, his friends convinced him to use his power as a selling point for the band, earning him the nickname "Living Glowstick".
His father soon found out about Radiant Waves and forbid him to continue playing. He continued to sneak out to underground shows anyway, and, to even further defy his father, applied to a local super prep school behind his back.
After about a year at prep school, he applied to Candrama, and was accepted. His father thinks he is participating in a student exchange program, and has no idea where he's actually headed.

Name: Dariya Hassen
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: Dariya is dark-skinned and Islamic, short for her age. She has brown eyes and almost-black hair that's always covered by a hijab. She wears a fair amount of makeup, enough for her lipstick and mascara to be obvious. She's reasonably fit and of an average build. She loves dressing nicely in abayas, but will wear jeans and a cardigan if the situation calls for it. She generally wears light colors, oranges and yellows being her favorites. Though not the strongest, she has great endurance.
Personality: Dariya fancies herself a genius, though she's not about to say that out loud. She's quick to catch on to most things academic, but especially technology and coding. Because of this, she can come across as a little vain, and a bit of a show-off. In spite of this, Dariya is fairly likeable. She's an ambivert - not afraid to approach people or crack a joke, but won't get incredibly personal until she knows them better. She's very rash and tends to rush into things without thinking them through, though she's also quick-thinking and her plans generally work out. She also holds a grudge.
Home Country: Palestine
Superpower: Can create a substance called Spectrulite. Spectrulite is a see-through substance that is surprisingly malleable but exceedingly hard to penetrate. Most things, including explosive materials, bounce right off it or cannot get through it. Dariya can use it in one of two ways: either by keeping conscious control over it, so she can change that specific bit of spectrulite's form at will, make it vanish and reappear, and keep it stronger and more malleable; or she can release it from her control and have it be a permanent fixture, which is weaker and more rigid (and therefore easier to shatter). She's the only known source of this substance. Also, please note that the longer she keeps conscious control over Spectrulite, the more effort it takes; she can even collapse in the middle of a battlefield becaue of this. As far as she knows, Spectrulite can only be used to create inanimate objects.

Weapon of Choice: A hammer made out of Spectrulite
Background Info: Dariya was born an only child in Palestine. Her father died when she was two, leaving her with only an exceedingly overprotective mother to take care of her. They discovered her powers when Dariya was found sleepwalking across a bridge of Spectrulite when she was eight. Her mother, terrified that her daughter might be roped into evildoing, tried to keep Dariya from using her powers, but she was itching to experiment. Going to Candrama Institute is her chance to escape from her mother and discover exactly what she can do.
