Book Town

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Book Town

Book Town
The town was still. It was almost as if it knew what had happened the night before.
A girl had gone missing.
Everyone knew--or thought they knew--what had happened, but they didn't speak of it, except to offer their condolences.
Within a year, Lùthien Arwen Cappiello was "presumed dead" by all in the town of Carteridge.
...
About year after Lùthiens death, a new family moved to Carteridge--a small, nondescript town in a  state of trees and rain and more trees and rain. It caused a great stir and the whole town knew of it months before the event actually happened. Rarely did people move to Carteridge.
The fact was, Carteridge was a little... odd. Oh, the people in it looked like ordinary people.
But there was one strange difference between it and other towns...
Everything in the town had the name of a book, its characters, or the author, including the people.
In fact, it had got so far that a certain old retired science professor, Mr. Coomis, had speculated that perhaps the town was drawing them in, for they only got, by way of newcomers, "book people," as he called them.
Even Mr. Coomis himself had the name of a book--found in his first name, rarely did people have the last name of a book character, author, or the title, in that his first name was Robin.
You could not imagine a person farther from being 'Robin Hood' than Mr. Coomis. He was an old man who liked his books (of course--the whole town seemed book-obsessed, if only for the names), and his work. For even tough he was retired, he took a great interest in the education of young people, and consistently volunteered at the library and schools.
Carteridge had even gone thus far as to be called 'Book Town' by the inhabitants, though if you said that outside of Carteridge, nobody knew what you were talking about.
But it was well-deserved--for as I have said, every person was named after a book, or a book character, or an author, no matter how small or unknown the book might be.
Such was the case with the new family who moved to Book Town, the Withees.
Louisa's mother, Emily, who was named after Emily Byrd Starr in L. M. Montgomery's Emily trilogy, and her father was named for J. R. R. Tolkien--John Ronald.
Louisa herself was, quite clearly, named for Louisa May Alcott, and she was an avid reader.
But, uncharacteristically, she had not picked up a book in all the drive from the east side of the state to the west side. She had merely stared off into space, thinking.
She knew that her fathers job had carried them here, but could it have been to a less boring place? Portland, say, or Salem? Not some small town in the middle of the mountains? Would that have been too much to ask?
She had packed books, of course, though not once did she read them. She touched pen to paper a few times during the long drive, but other than that, did not break her stem of thoughts.
When they arrived, she was mostly silent, except for exchanging necessary words with her father and mother whenever they tried to engage her in conversation, or ask her for help carrying in boxes.
~~~
This is a solo write--my first one XD ! (I apologize in advance if I have violated any rule of solo write-d-ness.)   I'll accept ten main (well, all right, Louisa is my main character, but these characters will be at the forefront) characters. There's a catch--as this is Book Town, the characters have to have names from books. They can be named after book characters, or book authors, except for their last name.
Here is the character sheet:
Name*:
Gender:
Age:
Personality:
Appearance:
*please reference which book you got this from
Here are my characters' sheets:
Name*: Louisa Withee
Gender: Female
Age: 13
Personality: Kind, can be a little harsh when expressing her own opinions, is very well-read, writes in her journal, but certainly does not write as much as the author she's named for, can be a little old-fashioned sometimes, is particularly good at Math and Writing. Can be shy when first meeting people, but is a talkative, loyal friend once friendship has been achieved.
Appearance: Red hair, always in a braid, and really dark brown eyes. Two tiny freckles at symmetrical points across her cheeks, about four foot eleven but always wears high-heeled black  boots which make her look taller, since she hates being short.
Other: Has been homeschooled all her life, until now.
*is named for Louisa May Alcott, the author
Name*: Frodo Cappiello
Gender: Male
Age: 13
Personality: Talkative, always excited for someone new to meet, loves to read though not as much as his sister, loves to write, good at schoolwork, kind, but can be a little insensitive to someone's feelings, is sometimes quiet and pensive at times.
Appearance: Is tall, about five foot six, with very dark brown, almost black hair and blue-green eyes.
Other: One of his older sisters died when he was twelve.
*Lord of the Rings.
Name: Èowyn Cappiello
Gender: Female
Age: 14
Personality: Quieter than her brother, loves to read, studies fencing (I know, it's ironic), does well in school, loves to draw, has some close friends but not the wide social circle her brother has...
Appearance: Long light blonde hair, brown eyes, one freckle across her right cheek, always wears gray sweatpants and a blue t-shirt, long-sleeved shirt, or sweater, depending on the season. Is tall, like her brother, about five foot five and a half.
Other: Her older sister died when she was nearly thirteen.
*also Lord of the Rings
I apologize for the longness of this post! This is based on a story idea I wrote... a few years ago? Last year? I don't remember. Please create characters! Thank you for scrolling down to the end of this super long thing!
Wow, this is a really neat idea! Totally joining!
Name: Elizabeth (Beth) Stewart
Gender: F
Age: 15
Personality: She's pretty friendly, sweet, and smart; she makes friends pretty quickly and is pretty popular. She's pretty sensitive, but doesn't usually let it show unless she's alone or with her best friends.  She loves to read and does pretty well in school.
Appearance: She's quite pretty with blue eyes, curly, shoulder length, honey brown hair. Usually wears knee length skirts and cute blouses or sweaters, depending on the time of year.
Other: She's an excellent cook.
*The Homelanders
I'm not sure how many charries we're allowed to submit, but here's my other character. If we're not allowed to have a second character then just ignore this.
Name: Lucy P. Stewart
Gender: F
Age: 12
Personality: Shy, sweet, imaginative. She loves to read, but loves to write more than that and has tons of imaginary worlds and friends. She doesn't have many friends because she stays at home, is homeschooled, and doesn't get out much. (See below). She has two or three close friends though and is very close to her big sister who she really looks up to.
Appearance:  She has CP (Cerebral Palsy) that mainly affects her legs, so she has leg braces and crutches.  She can move around, just rather awkwardly. She also has a wheelchair but doesn't use it very often.  She's small, with messy brown hair usually worn in a braid, blue eyes, wire glasses, and freckles.  She generally wears knee length skirts like her sister, but with a hoodie or a T-shirt.
Other:  She's Beth's sister.
Yes, you are allowed to submit 2 or 3 charries. Let me revise what I said: I will allow 10 people to submit 2 charries if they so choose, which would add up to twenty at the most. It's just that this is a small town, so I don't want an extreme amount of people... Thank you for creating characters, Booksy Baker!
Thank you so much for creating characters, everyone! There are still *counts* fifteen spots left! If no one fills them brefore April 22nd, I will make some up myself... (I still have some from my original draft who I'm leaving out here who I could always substitute if there are empty spots.)
Also, @The Booksy Baker, who is Elizabeth/Beth in The Homelanders? Is she the author?
And also, I noticed that both you and Killim created a character named after Lucy Pensieve from Narnia. I'm not being judgmental, it just shows me that you both like the Narnia series...
