Editing and Critique!

Editing and Critique!

This thread is for anyone looking for someone to edit their novel, novel in progress, or short story, etc, or anyone looking for some opinions on their writing!

Here's how it works (editing):

Writers looking for an editor:

You'll post the title of your story, novel, etc, as well as a summary, and people can apply to be an editor.

After that, you'll post a couple paragraphs of the beginning of your novel, story, etc, and the applying editors will edit it.

Then you'll read all the edited versions, and decide whose editing style you like best, and let them know that you'd like for them to edit your piece!

Applying Editors:

All you have to do let the person know that you'd like to edit.

As for critique, please keep it to constructive criticism, if any at all.

Now. . .

I'm looking for an editor for a short story I wrote-

Title: Flyaway

Summary: It's about a girl who runs away to live with her older sister. . . I have some very large plot holes and inconsistencie.

I probably won't enter- I'm too busy- but I just wanted to say that Flyaway is already the title of a book. Though it would make a really nice name on your book! Maybe Soaring Away? Or something about the reason she wanted to join her sister. Does she not like her parents? Does she even live with her parents?

Ah, didn't know that, thanks! And about her parents. . . that's one of my major plot holes. . .

Cool, thanks! I'll post the first couple paragraphs for both of you to edit so I can see your styles. I'd love some critique too!

I can edit!

I also would like some critique on the novel(la?) I'm working on. The tentative title is "The Art of Summer Sundays". It's realisitc fiction, has lotsa LGBTQ+, ethnically diverse characters, cuteness, and pining.

Summary: Jack is artsy and awkward. Alex is impulsive and drinks too much coffee. Adri speaks French when she gets frustrated. Theo calls Adri "Frenchy". Adri often finds herself having to resist the urge to slap Theo. Jared needs tissues. Ben has punched Alex in the face. Alex has punched Ben in the face. They think that's pretty fair. Liza steals Ria's Doc Martens and looks a lot better in them than her. Jared still needs tissues. They're. . . all giant nerds.

M'kay, so here's the first paragraph. My working title is Silent Rain, but I might change it. Edit away!

She leans over the bathroom mirror, watching as her breath fogs the glass. It’s early, and the crisp September morning chills her, even under her parka. One month in New York, and it’s already freezing compared to home. She shudders, wondering what December will be like, and suddenly misses the perfect California weather. She turns her attention back to the mirror, scrutinizing every imperfection; the cracked corners, the hairline fracture running through the clear glass.

Can I apply for both?

I'm good at grammar and punctuation, and a thesaurus is my friend, but editing my own stuff is hard. Because I either hate it or love it so much that I scim over it's sour spots. So basically, I'm biased over my own work. That's why I would like someone else to help me.

As I said I'm at grammar, and etc. but I'm also good at spotting those 'sour' spots. And since I don't know any of you personally, no offense, I'm not biased with or against anyone. Genres that I'm best associated with are sci-fi, fantasy, and realistic fiction.

I would like an editor:

My story:

Down to Earth(btw, yes I know other people have used this title, but I am not changing it)

Summary:(fantasy)

It's about a cloud person who has come down to the earth as a coming-of-age ritual. She finds that the world is so much cooler, and accidentally misses her deadline to come back up to the cloud city. Now stuck on earth, and invisible to the population, she has to wait there for a few months until her next opportunity. As she slowly becomes visible, she makes friends with some of the barbarians(modern day people). When the opportunity comes back, she decides to stay on earth, but I'd held hostage by her own people. Well-kept secrets start surfacing int he cloud kingdom, and threatens to collaps her civilization. Decisions wil be made, and traitors will be made known, and old history revealed.

I've started it, and it's about ten thousand words(I used it for NaNoWriMo). But I need help with the stuff I have of it.

Firstly, September, I'd be willing to be an editor!

Secondly, I'd like to apply for editors for my short story-- mostly just because I like it, I'm not really going anywhere with it (I wrote it yesterday just for fun and it came out pretty nice, I think).

Title: Undecided . . . "Sisters" is something that came into my head (yes, I know it's already the title of a book, but if it showed up in, I dunno, a short story collection or something, I don't think that would be a copyright problem . . . I'm bad at this.)

Summary: The fairy tale "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" told from the youngest sister's point of view.

Thanks, where do I post a part of my story for editing. And what part of the story? The beginning?
