NEW RP THAT

Chatterbox: Inkwell

NEW RP THAT

NEW RP THAT REALLY SHOULD HAVE A NAME BUT DOESN'T*

In the middle of nowhere, Virginia, there is a small town. This town isn't known to anyone at all except the relatives of the people who live there. It has enough children that there's a school and a library, but otherwise you have to drive to the nearest town to pick up mail, put money in your bank account, etc.  There's a nice family-owned grocery store that contains what you need but not exotics, so shopping sprees are rather common. It's a sleepy place, where dogs are let out into subarban yards for the day and you drive everywhere. This town is called Cardinal Valley.

It's also one of the most dangerous places in the world.

The library mentioned earlier has been closed for years, maybe even a decade. This is because there is a book-- one book-- that, when opened, will transfer an innocent reader away to another place, another world. The librarian once found this book, and was able to return by looking into its pair in the other world. However, no one knows where this twin is. Nobody knows the name of the book, either, or even really believes the legend. But because you are a reader and have privledges, the name of the book is Cardinal Valley.

This book, as has been said, transfers you to an alternate dimension. This world is in chaos. It has a king, but his territory stretches for so far he does not know where to start. This king is missing the vital point of a monarch: the ability to make descisions. So while he dithers about on his throne, his world falls into insanity.

This world is called Cardinal Valley.

___

In this RP, you can be a resident of the sleepy town Cardinal Valley or the chaotic realm Cardinal Valley. I would prefer that the book transport goes one way only: to the chaotic kingdom.

If you come from the sleepy town, you should at some point be transported to the other Cardinal Valley. When this happens, one of three things can occur. The first is that you are suddenly found alone, with no idea where you are. The second is that you suddenly find yourself with a new breed of civilization, where they believe you have existed there since birth and you are known to people. If this happens, you can become another creature. The third is that you come to the new Cardinal Valley and forget about your own sleepy town, instead remembering a life here, while no one else knows who you are except others who have suffered the same fate. You slowly remember your own life.

If you come from the chaotic realm, you can be anything you want. This Cardinal Valley is fantasy medieval (the other is present day), so there are sprites, mages, and anything else you can think of. The one thing you CANNOT be are the king and queen, who can be god-modded by anyone.

A couple more rules. Firstly, no Mary Sues or Alpha Males. Make sure your character is well-developed and avoiding stereotypes-- mischievious, powerful fairies are fun to play but tiresome. Secondly, make sure you are dedicated to this RP, as I would like it to finish. Thirdly, please avoid god-modding as much as possible. A conversation is all well and good, but definitely no major descision-making and NO winning a fight/killing another character without consultation. Fourth, you may have two charries maximum. If you do, it would be best if they were from different worlds and were different genders. And lastly, please make sure to double-check your grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Minor mistakes are perfectly all right, but it's very difficult when every other word is misspelled or the writer doesn't know their three "there"'s. I recommend Googling the word if you're not sure of the spelling-- that's what I usually do.

As I'm driving home tomorrow, I'll get online when I'm there and see how many people want to join. From there I may say that there's the perfect amount and no one else may join, I may say that there are too many people and I'll have to deny some entrance, or I'll say there are too few people and I'll give it a little longer. ONCE THE RP STARTS, NO ONE MAY JOIN.

Here's the charrie sheet.

Name:

Age:

Where they're from:

Species (if chaotic):

Rank/Occupation:

Appearance:

Personality:

Backstory:

Other:

My charries:

Name: Amelia Williams (hush. I know. Don't say it), Melia for short

Age: 13

Where they're from: Sleepy Cardinal Valley

Rank/Occupation: Not applicable

Appearance: No, she's not Scottish, I am creative. Melia is in fact slightly German, with a faint accent. She has dark brown hair in pigtail braids and grey-blue eyes. She has a few freckles, tanned light skin, and is about average height, usually wearing shin-length pants and t-shirts with no text (parents' rules).

Personality: Melia is an average student, although very curious. She wants to be a scientist when she grows up, and especially study animals. She enjoys reading nonfiction but likes a good story. A very outdoor person, Melia bikes, swims, runs, and jumpropes, but is best at running-- there's going to be an afterschool track program in school next year, and her name was first on the list. She's the type to wait for someone to approach, have them start the conversation, and then she'll keep it going for hours. Melia's a dedicated, don't-give-up-on-your-dream sort of person, and very peppy. She also likes to stay up late.

Backstory: Melia's grandparents on her father's side are fully German, but her mother's line is American very far back. Her parents moved to Cardinal Valley when she was three, and she can't remember anything about where they lived before (Richmond).

Other: Not applicable

Name: Peter Capaldi (I know. Hush.), nicknamed Petey
Age: 11

Where they're from: Chaotic Cardinal Valley

Species: Human

Rank/Occupation: Prince

Appearance: Not Scottish. Quit thinking so low of me. He has mousy brown hair which is always messy and chocolate brown eyes. His skin is very pale, as he spends most of his time inside. Petey is slightly short for his age and wears clothes appropriate to his rank.

Personality: Petey is an introvert. He prefers finding a silent corner to himself and reading to partying in the ballroom. He has very high expecations for anything anybody does, including himself, and finds fictional writings childish, instead reading non-fiction, particularly history, quenching his thirst for knowledge. Although royal, Petey is used to taunting and merely turns away from it. He speaks often, but mostly to criticize. When one tells him he's annoying, he tells them that they should watch their low-class filthy tongues before he threw them to the gallows, even if it was a sibling speaking. They would laugh; he would turn away, head high, although secretly insulted.

Backstory: Petey is the fifth child of the royal family, and therefore will probably end up being a duke or earl, but definitely not king. He has one older sister and three older brothers, plus a few younger siblings, even a baby (note: you may play any of these, although I'm not sure why you'd want to be a baby). He grew up in the castle and rarely left it, spending most of his time with tutors or alone.

Other: Not applicable

*If it was called "Cardinal Valley", I am afraid that we would all be teleported to a chaotic fantasy realm, which I am sure none of us want.

Avery~

The library is about to close. I go to find Mrs. Sampson (the library owner) and tell her I was done for the day. On my way, I pass through the non-fiction section. My foot gets stuck for a moment on what I know is a book before I even look down. Grumbling in my head about how patrons never even put books they're finished with on the shelving cart, I look down to find what I think is—yes, it's the book I had shelved earlier, 'Cardinal Valley', opened to the back cover.

I pick up the book gingerly, close it, and tuck it under my arm, thinking that I can read it later, given that I don't have to be at the library tomorrow to work. I check out the book, and shout goodnight to Mrs. Sampson, who is all the way across the room.

As I walk out the door into the crisp night air I hear something from Mrs. Sampson. Maybe she was saying something like "Have a good read", but her voice sounded too panicked. I'm sure that I checked out the book, and am sure that she has checked my check-out log. I don't go back inside to ask, though, the air is too delectable to leave back into the musty air of the library I was in all day. Instead, I give her the chance to come out and fix whatever needs to be fixed as I start reading in the street-lamp light.

Except, there is nothing to read. Page after page, each one blank. I wonder if perhaps the light of the lamp is too bright and I need better glasses. I start to flip through the rest of the pages with my thumb until I get to the very last page. A picture of a castle with the words 'Cardinal Valley' under it, so beautiful I feel my heart tug for it. It's as though I was literally following my heart when I vanished into its inky beauty.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, I will be going home from my trip tomorrow. If somebody in Chaotic Cardinal Valley would like to find Avery in the time that I am gone, feel free.
I look at the bookish girl. She is confused, and I ask again. "HUMAN OR ELF?"
She steps back, and mutters: "Human"
"I need help." I grind out. "Human scum is advancing on the forest. War is appraoching, and I need a human to train as an elf. If you say no, I kill you. What is your name?"
"Avery" she answered.
I toss a sword at her feet. "You, take the sword, and we fight the plague."
Can one of the SCV people turn up in the castle? Because Anna's not doing much right now.
Skye~
I turn in a full circle, taking in the forest. My clothes have changed- now more Medevil-ish looking. Something keeps bothering me. I feel like I can from somewhere, looking at a. . . book. Why was I there? Where was there? One life sinks away into another. I've lived in this Cardinal Valley all my life- Right?
I look again at the girl I met just now. I smile at her. "I'm sorry, I think I got confused there." She stares at me. "What's your name again?" I add.
"Um, Lash," she replies slowly. "And you just popped out of a portal of some sort." I cock my head.
"Did I?" I muse. "Odd. Anyhow, I suppose I must be going. Master Verrion won't be too happy I've been gone."
...........................................
I slowly enter the house of the Kings Runners again. The Captain of the Runners, Verrion, glares at me.
"Took you long enough," he snarls. "I suppose you got the package delivered, then?" I nod.
"Yes, sir," I agree.
"Good enough," he huffs. "Just sent Williams out with the letter for the Earl. She was acting strange. Go hunt her down and see as she doesn't get lost." With another quiet nod, I hurry out into the sunlight and turn east, towards the Earl's home. With a deep breath, I dash off, hoping that Williams hasn't gotten too far.
Ok, I'm here! Sorry for not posting, I have literally had the most INSANE weekend ever, and classes at school start on Wednesday, so I'm a bit busy. I'll try to keep up though!
~ Jared
When I hear the thud, I'm a bit preoccupied. Sneaky little shifter thief I am, it should have been easy to snatch a few sets of clothes and a bit of food, but nooooo! I had to go after the nobleman and his family.
To be honest, I do know why I went after them. Mostly, it was the nobleman's kids. I'd seen the boy before, bragging to other kids, threatening to tell his father they had done things they hadn't done. The daughter is even worse. She just sits on a bench somewhere and flutter her lashes at any boy who walked by, then throws a fit if they don't swoon over her. These kids are the exact same ages as me and Ariana. It made me mad, very, very mad, to think about the fact that, right now, those kids are going somewhere fancy to eat, while my sister is sitting back out in the forest waiting for me to steal food so we can eat for the first time in two days. So yeah, I did go after them. And I did manage to grab some pretty sweet stuff. But now, I'm being chased by the guards.
I duck into a corner of the local tavern, trying to look inconspicuous. The guards are right behind me, kicking open the door and grabbing the first person they can reach, which thankfully, is not me.
"Where is he?!" The captain roars. He's a big, big man, with a red face, tiny, wild black eyes, and a scraggly beard. The patron in his grasp sqirms, and a bartender runs forward.
"Captain, please, release this man!" The bartender says in his squeaky voice. The patron falls to the ground, coughing. "Who are you looking for?"
"A boy," the captain growls. "Black hair, green eyes."
Eyes dart around the room, searching. Thanks to the distractions of the guards, I had managed to slip into the nobleman's son's silk shirt, pants, and long cream colored coat unnoticed. I hadn't been able to change my hair though. Hands grab and voices shout as I scramble through the crowd to the door, shoving the guards out of my way, though they follow me outside.
Then, the thud. Across the street, a boy stands over the battered body of the village blacksmith, grinning evilly. He has black hair even longer and wilder than mine, but what really scares my are his glowing red eyes. As the guards see him, they all retreat back into to tavern. Beside the scary boy is a girl with dark skin and frizzy hair, staring down at a sword in the dirt at her feet.
"So? Will you join me?" The boy says. His voice is rough and deep, far, far too deep. It's... Evil somehow.
I'm doing first person past for this post. Present would work, but I think past's better . . . I tried it with present and it didn't go too well.
Amelia~
"Right. This is-- crazy. Just crazy."
I don't usually mutter to myself, but when one stumbles into a reverse world and is immedeately given a task, I figured I could make an exception. Especially because standing in front of me was another boy, in MUCH more extravagent clothes than the first man I had met.
He completely ignored me as I walked past, instead making his way towards the other person. "So you did hire a woman," he said.
"We discussed it with the king. Besides, she payed a large sum of money. We all know the reaches of the Williamses . . ."
"I had to see it for myself. You're breaking through boundaries, O'Brien. Good job."
The man stared at the boy for a minute. "Prince Peter, forgive me, did I--?"
"Yes, you heard me correctly! I thought everyone knew my strives for--?"
"That's one of the reasons you're not going to be king, yes."
O'Brien just crossed a border and he knew it.
"Right. And your daft head is the reason you can't be leader of the Runners for much longer. My father forced me outside, so I simply came to see the new addition. I almost thought you deserved some approval, O'Brien. I was sadly mistaken."
The boy-- Prince Peter-- turned away, leaving O'Brien shocked.
"By the way," he said to me, as he was walking past, "You should see a Seer. You have the gold in your quarters."
Peter~
It wasn't magic that I knew the girl's predicament. I am human, not some sort of fairy. I simply overheard the conversation between O'Brien and Williams. There are documentations of humans randomly appearing throughout history. No one is sure how this happens, but the travellers themselves often say it has something to do with a book.
However, the Williamses didn't suddenly appear. They're one of the oldest merchant families ever; they came from a land across the sea originally, a land called Germany (NOTE: CCV is in a kind of fantasy/medieval Great Britain, so it's mostly Scots, Brits, and the Irish), and flourished here. Amelia Williams is the current child. I didn't remember anything to do with her wish to be a Runner, however.
I went outside, in any case, and now I can go back to the castle.
I literally can not think of anything to post. If you have featured my charrie in one of your posts, I'll stay, but otherwise... I'm quitting. This is only slightly because of the stress, it is mostly because I literally HAVE NO IDEAS AT ALL! I'm having writer's block for this RP. So, if you see me make a new RP, I'm not trying to quit this RP to make one, I'm trying to make one that I actually have ideas for. Sorry 'bout the writer's block and the quitting. I'm just going to go now and hope that I didn't make anyone mad. XP
After the strange girl left, I walked to the tavern in town. As I put my hand on the door, it burst open and I leapt back.
A grimy boy in presumably stolen noble's clothes dashed out, followed by others. I jumped back and ran after the boy.
"What did you do?" I asked him. The crowd behind us seemed to have retreated.... odd....
~Annabelle
I watched Petey jealously as he went outside to the fresh air and sunshine. He never even wanted to go outside! Not like me. I absolutely adored the great outdoors, flowers, grass, sunshine, birds, and everything!
Then, as Father entered the room, I got an idea, "Father?" I went up to him, "Can I go outside? With Petey?"
Father surveyed me distractedly. Obviously something important was on his mind, "Sure, Anna."
I grinned, dashing out after Petey. He barely glanced at me.
"Petey, where are we going?"
"Not we, me. You're not going with me. I'm seeing the head of the Runners about Williams. You can go away and leave me alone."
Even though Petey was always like this, I was still a bit hurt, "Okay, Petey."
I ran off outside the gates to town to buy things from the market. I saw a quaint little toy store and skipped inside. This was my favorite store, and I always went here on the rare times I went to the market.
"Princess Annabelle! How nice to see you here!" The storekeeper, Mr. Thomas, greeted me.
I smiled, "Hello, Mr. Thomas!" I danced around the shop, stopping when I saw a fancy toy rattle that I was sure Clara would love.
I grabbed it and gave it a shake, laughing.
"Want that, Princess Annabelle?"
"Yes!" I went over to him and gave him a few coins, before running out of the shop again. It was going to be a fun afternoon!
So sorry I haven't been on! School starts for me a day from tomorrow, and I've been preparing. I may not be able to post for another week.
Avery~
I'm still staring at the weapon that has been layed before me by the weird humanoid figure. He was obviously getting really annoyed with me, so in the convenience that he wouldn't kill me just yet, I speed up my decision making.
It's either this or death, I tell myself. Who am I kidding, this will end in death anyway. Your fighting a plague. My optimistic side fights back, Hush, Avery, at least you'll die a brave and noble death. I highly doubt my optimistic side, but too late now!  I take up the sword and look back at the humanoid creature with as much courage as I could muster.
"What's your name?" I ask him, pretending as best I can that I am totally not freaking out at the fact that I am holding a sword in my hand about to fight a plague with it. How do you even do that? I relay this question to him, realizing as I say it that that might have been the stupidest thing I have ever asked as I see him turn around, sword up.
But, he doesn't kill me. Not yet.
" My name is Zekar. Come with me, I'll show you what the plague is.", is all that he says.
"I'm afraid it's too late" ths words echo inside my head. But, it can't be! There must be a way to revive the forum! The doctor sees the conflict in my face, and seems to read my thoughts through it. "Until we know what the plague is, I'm afraid that there is nothing we can do. Only the words of a CBer can save us now."
