NEW RP THAT
Chatterbox: Inkwell
NEW RP THAT
NEW RP THAT REALLY SHOULD HAVE A NAME BUT DOESN'T*
In the middle of nowhere, Virginia, there is a small town. This town isn't known to anyone at all except the relatives of the people who live there. It has enough children that there's a school and a library, but otherwise you have to drive to the nearest town to pick up mail, put money in your bank account, etc. There's a nice family-owned grocery store that contains what you need but not exotics, so shopping sprees are rather common. It's a sleepy place, where dogs are let out into subarban yards for the day and you drive everywhere. This town is called Cardinal Valley.
It's also one of the most dangerous places in the world.
The library mentioned earlier has been closed for years, maybe even a decade. This is because there is a book-- one book-- that, when opened, will transfer an innocent reader away to another place, another world. The librarian once found this book, and was able to return by looking into its pair in the other world. However, no one knows where this twin is. Nobody knows the name of the book, either, or even really believes the legend. But because you are a reader and have privledges, the name of the book is Cardinal Valley.
This book, as has been said, transfers you to an alternate dimension. This world is in chaos. It has a king, but his territory stretches for so far he does not know where to start. This king is missing the vital point of a monarch: the ability to make descisions. So while he dithers about on his throne, his world falls into insanity.
This world is called Cardinal Valley.
___
In this RP, you can be a resident of the sleepy town Cardinal Valley or the chaotic realm Cardinal Valley. I would prefer that the book transport goes one way only: to the chaotic kingdom.
If you come from the sleepy town, you should at some point be transported to the other Cardinal Valley. When this happens, one of three things can occur. The first is that you are suddenly found alone, with no idea where you are. The second is that you suddenly find yourself with a new breed of civilization, where they believe you have existed there since birth and you are known to people. If this happens, you can become another creature. The third is that you come to the new Cardinal Valley and forget about your own sleepy town, instead remembering a life here, while no one else knows who you are except others who have suffered the same fate. You slowly remember your own life.
If you come from the chaotic realm, you can be anything you want. This Cardinal Valley is fantasy medieval (the other is present day), so there are sprites, mages, and anything else you can think of. The one thing you CANNOT be are the king and queen, who can be god-modded by anyone.
A couple more rules. Firstly, no Mary Sues or Alpha Males. Make sure your character is well-developed and avoiding stereotypes-- mischievious, powerful fairies are fun to play but tiresome. Secondly, make sure you are dedicated to this RP, as I would like it to finish. Thirdly, please avoid god-modding as much as possible. A conversation is all well and good, but definitely no major descision-making and NO winning a fight/killing another character without consultation. Fourth, you may have two charries maximum. If you do, it would be best if they were from different worlds and were different genders. And lastly, please make sure to double-check your grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Minor mistakes are perfectly all right, but it's very difficult when every other word is misspelled or the writer doesn't know their three "there"'s. I recommend Googling the word if you're not sure of the spelling-- that's what I usually do.
As I'm driving home tomorrow, I'll get online when I'm there and see how many people want to join. From there I may say that there's the perfect amount and no one else may join, I may say that there are too many people and I'll have to deny some entrance, or I'll say there are too few people and I'll give it a little longer. ONCE THE RP STARTS, NO ONE MAY JOIN.
Here's the charrie sheet.

My charries:
Name: Amelia Williams (hush. I know. Don't say it), Melia for short
Age: 13
Where they're from: Sleepy Cardinal Valley
Rank/Occupation: Not applicable
Appearance: No, she's not Scottish, I am creative. Melia is in fact slightly German, with a faint accent. She has dark brown hair in pigtail braids and grey-blue eyes. She has a few freckles, tanned light skin, and is about average height, usually wearing shin-length pants and t-shirts with no text (parents' rules).
Personality: Melia is an average student, although very curious. She wants to be a scientist when she grows up, and especially study animals. She enjoys reading nonfiction but likes a good story. A very outdoor person, Melia bikes, swims, runs, and jumpropes, but is best at running-- there's going to be an afterschool track program in school next year, and her name was first on the list. She's the type to wait for someone to approach, have them start the conversation, and then she'll keep it going for hours. Melia's a dedicated, don't-give-up-on-your-dream sort of person, and very peppy. She also likes to stay up late.
Backstory: Melia's grandparents on her father's side are fully German, but her mother's line is American very far back. Her parents moved to Cardinal Valley when she was three, and she can't remember anything about where they lived before (Richmond).
Other: Not applicable
Name: Peter Capaldi (I know. Hush.), nicknamed Petey
Age: 11
Where they're from: Chaotic Cardinal Valley
Species: Human
Rank/Occupation: Prince
Appearance: Not Scottish. Quit thinking so low of me. He has mousy brown hair which is always messy and chocolate brown eyes. His skin is very pale, as he spends most of his time inside. Petey is slightly short for his age and wears clothes appropriate to his rank.
Personality: Petey is an introvert. He prefers finding a silent corner to himself and reading to partying in the ballroom. He has very high expecations for anything anybody does, including himself, and finds fictional writings childish, instead reading non-fiction, particularly history, quenching his thirst for knowledge. Although royal, Petey is used to taunting and merely turns away from it. He speaks often, but mostly to criticize. When one tells him he's annoying, he tells them that they should watch their low-class filthy tongues before he threw them to the gallows, even if it was a sibling speaking. They would laugh; he would turn away, head high, although secretly insulted.
Backstory: Petey is the fifth child of the royal family, and therefore will probably end up being a duke or earl, but definitely not king. He has one older sister and three older brothers, plus a few younger siblings, even a baby (note: you may play any of these, although I'm not sure why you'd want to be a baby). He grew up in the castle and rarely left it, spending most of his time with tutors or alone.
Other: Not applicable

*If it was called "Cardinal Valley", I am afraid that we would all be teleported to a chaotic fantasy realm, which I am sure none of us want.

Would anybody mind if I posted again? Because I really want Skye to move to C.C.V.
(August 16, 2016 - 4:12 pm)
@TARDIS I'm starting the transition now.
Amelia~
When I leave, I instantly regret it. It's boiling outside and cool in the library. There's nothing to do outdoors, and I don't feel like re-reading books. Why not take the advantage? I go back inside.
The librarian-- a rather elderly woman-- is replacing a book on the shelf. The library is empty again, simple as that, minus me and the two keepers of the place. I walk up to where she was reshelving, curious. It's in the nonfiction section, so maybe I can find some good books on fauna.
A hardcover book at the very front of the shelf catches my eye. It's bound in maroon, and golden letters stitched on the side read Cardinal Valley.
Is it a history of the town? I take it out. Maybe the birds disappearing happens often, and it's documented here.
The book is heavy and looks very long, which is surprising, because Cardinal Valley itself hasn't been around for too long. I flip it open, sitting down right there on the ground, balancing the large book on my knees.
The first page is blank. And the page after that, and after that, and after that. I flip through it. The whole book is full of blank pages! What sort of a dumb trick is that?
I'm about to get up and put the book back on the shelf when a black-and-white drawing catches my eye. It's on the last page. That's incredibly annoying; the publishers really goofed up while making this one.
The drawing pictures a fairy-tale castle. It has a flag flying from its heighest tower, but I can't tell what's on it. A winding path leads from whatever's in front of the castle, across a moat, and to the main entry. Underneath, in a familiar font to the one that's used for Disney, are four words:
Welcome to Cardinal Valley.
I mouth words that I read, and I've only just finished forming the y when I blink out.
Simple as that.
Simply not there.
___
We'll be getting a POV from Peter soon.
Also, to let you guys know, the Cardinal Valley you guys find isn't necessarily the one Amelia found. It's magical, so it can change appearance completely with each reader.
(August 16, 2016 - 8:03 pm)
Name: Ruby Whitman
Age: 12
Where they're from: Sleepy Cardinal Valley
Rank/Occupation: none
Appearance: Long straight brown hair, lots of freckles, hazel-ish Amber-ish eyes, skin color in between light and asian, and she's very short (4' 6")
Personality: cheerful and optimistic, but very hard on herself. A bookworm and averagely smart. Stands up for her friends, but most people don't really notice her. Sometimes lonely. Doesn't have many friends but is very friendly.
Backstory: Ruby's grandma and grandpa (on her moms side) grew up in Thailand, but moved to the USA because of Ruby's grandpa's job. Ruby's mom grew up in a big city near Sleepy Cardinal Valley, but never knew that Cardinal Valley existed. Ruby's grandparents on her dad's side, however had lived in Sleepy Cardinal Valley all their life, so her dad was raised there. He had always dreamed of traveling the world though, and one day he traveled to the city where Ruby's mom lived. They met each other in a small cafe and it was love at first sight. Ruby's mom moved to Cardinal Valley with her new husband and soon Ruby was born. Ruby has lived in Cardinal Valley her entire life and has only visited the nearby towns, but her father says that for her 16th birthday he will take her anywhere in the world that she wants to go, so she obviously can't wait for that day to come.
Other: Ruby is an only child. Her dad travels to many different places around the world so Ruby only sees him for half a year or less every year. She hopes to travel with him someday.

I'm sorry, Dragonrider, no one else can join.

I am an elf. I am an elf. I am a monster… I am an elf. I keep moving. The villages always anger me. I can’t fight. But I must. I must fight. This is my curse. War is in the air. I feel the stench of humans everywhere. I must protect nature.

Oooh!!! I just had an AWESOME idea!!! Could someone from S.C.V. like, pop into existence right by Jared and Ariana, and then Zekrar could come attack them?
(August 17, 2016 - 4:09 pm)
Zekrar would probably go beserk. And keep in mind that Zekrar is a bad guy. He is a murderer, a thief, and a criminal.
(August 17, 2016 - 8:38 pm)
@St. Owl- Oops, sorry I didn't reaize that this had already been started. I guess I should have read through more of the RP.

Skye~
I stand halfway between my house and the library. That book, the red one that seemed to jump from my hands, keep nagging at me, like someone pulling lightly on my braid. Like, Hey, I'm back here. Did you see me? Why aren't you talking to me? Are you annoyed yet?
I glance at my house, turn, and walk back to the library. It only takes me a few moments to find the book again. It lays on the ground, opened to the middle pages. Picking it up, I flip through. Blank. Blank, blank, more blank. At last, I reach the last page. A simple drawing of a castle with the name of our town: Cardinal Valley.
I stare. Something feels so right about that picture. Something seems to be tugging again, someting pulling at my heart. I run my fingers over the outline.
Then I black out.

.:Lin:.
Roxane croons, swaying back and forth gently. She pulls the microphone closer, her voice soaring and quivering with emotion before gently dropping back into the chorus.
The audience is entranced; the shoddy lighting charms and terrible food is nothing compared to Roxane. Even I'm a little impressed, and I've been training myself to ignore Roxane's siren magic for months. She's really on fire tonight; and it's a good thing, too, we've got a new batch of more critical audience members, richer ones, even a few with gaurds, wrinkled and overgrown enough I'm sure they have at least some troll blood.
I slip through the crowd, serving drinks and taking tips- some they meant to give me and some they didn't. I return to the backrooms, where I count the money. I slip a few coins into my low-heeled shoes, tuck one into a hidden pocket in my jacket, and then put the rest into the bag. The night is almost over, and I've already gone over the room enough to make a considerable profit. No reason to risk suspicion.
Roxane joins me. She starts taking pins out of her hair, letting the dark red curls fall onto her bare shoulders. "How much?" She asks, her voice as smooth and sweet as when she sings.
I give a half shrug. "A good amount."
"No tricks tonight, Franklin Tam, my boss doesn't know you're still doing this. Patrons have started to notice your clumsy work, and I don't want to be fired."
"Sure, Red- like you couldn't just get hired by someone else," I scoff, dumping out the money.
She starts dabbing at her face, removing the heavy makeup. "I suppose, but the suspicion would be on me. Even my magic can only do so much. It's all that fox blood, I suppose."
We smirk at each other. Since I'd met Roxane that first day on the streets, she's been the sweeter of the two, but that doesn't mean she's anywhere near as innocent as she looks. The fox fae in her is relatively well hidden, and she's got enough siren blood that more than makes up for it, and me? You could tell I'm part fox fae from a mile off.
Roxane takes her share of the money and I take mine. I tuck it away. Part of it I'll use on food, but most of it I plan to save. This trick is only going to last so long, and I'd rather stop while I'm ahead. I kiss both of Roxane's cheeks. "Night Red. And remember, sisters don't let each other go to prison."
"Blood ones, maybe," She says. "And you know we're both tricksters at heart, you better make a contract more binding than that." She kisses my forehead. "Chao foxheart."
I slip into the night, jingling with newly acquired coins.

Amelia~
"Williams!"
I whirl around, an obvious question on my lips. It tastes almost sour, and the person approaching me does nothing to change it.
"Ya need to bring this to the Earl of Huntington at once!"
The man approaching me brings to mind the medieval era-- or maybe early Renaissance? If I remember my sixth-grade lessons correctly, he looks low-class, maybe a servant to a lord or lady. He's obviously wearing a uniform, with a white shirt buttoned at the wrists and a red vest with dark green trousers. His shirt is clasped to his waist by a small belt with a very showy buckle, and the cuffs of his sleeves look like they've been sewn in with gold.
"The Earl of where?" I ask, thinking it a perfectly decent question.
"Don't play games with me," the man replies, leaning in close. His breath smells like rotten fish. "Yer father payed a nice sum of money for ya to even be here, and I'd be happy to kick ya out and keep the gold."
"I-- what?"
"Go look at the map if it's so important to ya!" cries the man. His accent is Irish, I think. "Just deliver the letter!"
He shoves me over to a large map pinned to the wall. It's written on a scroll, is very wrinkled, and has the words CARDINAL VALLEY printed along the top.
On the bottom right (my right) is a small ensigna with the words THE KING'S RUNNERS written above.
Peter~
Annabelle will be the death of me if the twins don't get there first. She always asks me to play, even when it's obvious I'm busy. She should get chummy with some of her younger siblings, like Clara. Annabelle would get along well with Clara; they're both too energetic for their own good.
"Heeey Petey!"
Even worse. Jack and Jesse are thirteen but act like six-year-olds. Even Mr. Bertamon, the oldest and strictest of our tutors, gave up on teaching them anything.
"What'cha reading?" Jesse flops alongside me. She's practically an older version of Annabelle in appearance, although much larger-- the twins inherited Father's height, lucky them. Jack goes out of his way to look stupidly classy, and wears his own (darker brown-- Jesse has this color too) hair so that it parts to the side, the larger portion flipped over like some absurd arch (author's note: think 11th Doctor).
"Go away, Jesse," I say, not looking up from the book.
"You didn't answer my question."
"Go away."
"I want to know what the book is called."
"Go away."
"It is not!"
I'm honestly not sure whether it was only Jesse speaking. The similarities that the twins can't have in gender they make up for in voice: both are high, slightly nasal, and fine-tuned to get on anyone's nerves. Cooped up in this castle like we are, everyone chooses something to do. I was logical and chose reading. They were stupid and chose annoying everyone in sight.
"Anyway," says one of them-- I'm not looking-- "We'll leave you alone with your sorrows. But Dad wants to see you at noon."
Why would he want to see me? I keep reading my book. The twins walk away, making an absurd amount of noise. They were rather mild today.
(August 18, 2016 - 11:20 am)
It's Jessie, not Jesse. And they were meant to be younger twins... but whatever. It doesn't really matter. I have an idea! Maybe the Cardinal Valley book that transports you from CCV to SCV should be in the castle library, and Anna could see it one day but not pay it any attention. Then the castle could burn down, but the book could survive (Because it's MAGICAL!) and everyone could try hunting the book down. And maybe Gared's charrie could be the one to burn the castle down and some of Anna's siblings could die (Not Clara or Petey, though! Maybe one of the twins, but not both) and the charrie's from SCV could team up with the royal siblings and they could go try to find the book together! And maybe Gared's charrie (sorry, forgot his name) could be the one with the book because he STOLE IT! For some reason...
(August 19, 2016 - 5:08 pm)
I'm going to post pretty short posts, sorry!
Liana~
I swim as fast as I can to the mainland. I know everyone here, at least I thought so. I look around, and I see unfamiliar faces. HUMAN faces.
The book. I think to myself.
I've heard of Cardinal Valley, a book that can transport you to an alternate world. The book must have brought them here from the other world.
Oh, no.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all I have, sorry.

Lash~
A girl tumbles through the portal in front of me, a human girl. I jump back and prepare to strike. Upon seeing me, the girl gawks and points, scrambling to her feet.
"Where am I?" she gasps.
"Who are you?" I snap, "How did you create that portal?"
She stares at me. "Are you a cosplayer or-"
'I do not know what that means. I am a dark elf, or drow," I say curtly. The girl looks at me incredulously.
"I'm Skye. Where is this?"
"Cardinal Valley," I sigh.
She looks extremely confused, as do I.
(August 18, 2016 - 4:38 pm)
I throw the blacksmith against the wall of his shop. He crumples to the ground, and I take a few short swords before hurrying out.
A humanoid figure stands in the street, looking confused. I draw my large stone sword, and advance.
"Who are you, runt?" I bellow. "Human scum, or elf comrade?"
