WWII RP!I

WWII RP!

I'm creating this RP today in honor of FDR, who died on this day in 1945.

This RP will be about the Allied invasion of France (D-Day) in 1944. Some backround: The invading Allies are Britian, the U.S., and Canada. France is occupied by the Germans and the Allies have been planning the invasion for over a year. They will invade five beaches in Normandy, the northern coast of France, on June 6, 1944.

Okay. Your character can be an Allied soldier, a German soldier, a French civilian and/or spy, or a nurse/doctor/medic. One character per person, please. The limit for now is seven people, but that might get bigger depending on what I decide.

Here's the charrie sheet and my character:

Name: Jerry Meade

Age: 19

Position (if applicable): Private in U.S. Army.

Appearance: Dark curly hair, dark eyes, somewhat shortish.

Personality: Dogged and determined, generally good-natured, with a wry sense of humor, eager to prove himself and very sincere about everything he does.

Bakcground: He's from New England and has three younger brothers and sisters. When this RP starts, he is in southern England with the rest of the Allied army, waiting for the invasion.

Hobbies/skills: A musician; he plays the harmonica for his fellow soldiers; he also has a knack for writing.

What other people think of character: Most people think well of him, but don't have much respect for him.

P.S. You don't need to know much about history to do this RP. Have fun!

Ta-da:

Jerry~ Talk about anxiety! It’s late May already and how much further are we into knowing what’s going to happen next? Not a bit. Sometimes I wonder whether I could do better in charge of the whole Allied army than Mister General Dwight Eisenhower the Great himself. Not that he’s not a good general, of course, just that we’re all getting awfully sick of not moving.

Danny continues to keep everyone up-to-date on what he knows. The weather is a looming problem. I can see that for myself. The Channel is stormy and is rains frequently. It’ll be tricky getting hundreds (maybe thousands) of landing craft across it, especially without being seen by the Germans.

But here’s a more cheerful thought: the Greatest Hoax on Earth, the elaborate deception system that we set up for the Germans. Boy, it’s clever. Every time I think of it I can’t help but grin. Who on earth came up with something so elaborate?

Anyway, here’s what it is. It involves several components, some of which are fake blow-up tanks, trucks, and jeeps, which we leave out in places where German reconnaissance planes are going to see them. We put these blow-up structures hundreds of miles north of where we actually are, so that the Germans will think we’re going to invade somewhere north of where we’re actually planning to invade. They’ll be at the wrong place when the invasion comes. On top of that, we also have men with rollers walk along roads during the night to make it look like tanks and trucks have rolled through (blow-up structures do not make tracks, in case you were wondering). And then we have men stomp up and down roads to make it look like an army had passed through. We also have broadcast hours upon hours of fake radio transmissions, meant to intentionally be intercepted by the Germans. The transmissions tell about our fake invasion and all the little details of it, down to the fake landing sites and the fake equipment.

How clever is that? Let’s just hope the Germans aren’t one step ahead of us.

~~~
By the way, we invade June 6.
