Anything RR: We

Anything RR: We

Anything RR: We will see

I choked, gasping for air.  My arms waved, trying to swim, to get back to the surface, but I couldn't.  The hand dragged me down and my lungs burned.  I gasped and tried to breathe, but I couldn't.  It dragged me even further.  I couldn't take it.  And then I blacked out.  When I woke I could feel myself falling.  I was still only half-conscious.  Finally, I was able to force my eyes open.  I wasn't underwater anymore.  What?  That didn't make sense.  I was dying.  That's what was going on, I was dying and I was having a dream first.  But it couldn't be, I never had full memory of my life, and I never did in dreams.  No, this was real.  Then I had to figure out what to do.  I looked around me, it was completely bright, and I appeared to be falling down a tunnel.  The tunnel had puffy pink walls.  I needed to find a way, I couldn't just keep falling until I hit the ground.  Or could I?  There didn't seem to be anything else to do.  I was still falling, and then I looked down and I  could see the ground coming at me fast.

I sit and wait for him to sit as well. He does not. Instead, he crosses the room and opens one of the thick, leatherbound books. He flips through the musty, yellowed pages and sets the book in front of me, then sits. I glance at the title of the page, which is written in fancy, hard to read script. I think it says, 'On the History of the Queens of Lo Rutzioy'. I groan silently. Unless Gutren is an extrodanarily good teacher this will be really boring.

Gutren shut the book.  Clouds of dust billowed up in my face, making me cough.

"This is what you do not need to learn."  I breathed a sigh of relief.  "Close your eyes."  I did.  He put a hand on my shoulder.  The knowledge that you need to know will be transferred to you.  Sharp pain shot through my head.

Gotta go.  Will continue later.

Soon the pain ebbed away.  Gutren spoke, "You may go."  I scrambled out of my chair and rushed out of the room, back to the room where my sister/the Hogmyre lay.  Shockingly,  I was able to find my way.  Was that some of the recently implanted knowledge?  My mother waited for me.

"You have been so long."

"No I haven't."

"Yes you have, it has been eight hours."  I knit my eyebrows together in confusion.  Eight hours?  That was impossible.  I had been twenty minutes, tops.

My mother waved her hand dismissively.  "You need to try again with Eli."

"Gutren says that I'm not ready."

She sighed.  "I know.  And I know that it has been a very stressful period of time for you.  You deserve some leisure time.  Would you like to play cards?"

I grinned.   "Yes please."  She led me out of the room into a cavernous room with a big table at the center.  "What are we going to play?"  I asked.  I expected a strange game from thsi world.

She glanced at me, "I was thinking Uno."

I let out a loud guffaw.

"What were you expecting?  Some weird otherworldly game?"

"Um... yes."

She giggled.  "You may find that this world is unfamiliar in many ways, but many things are the same as on Earth too."

We played until we tired of the game.  Then she led me to another room.  A library.

"You may find books of your liking here."  I did.

Days past, every day I spent some time with Gutren, and with my mother.  When would I be ready?  That was a question that filled my mind on an everyday basis.  Gutren said that it would be a ling time...

But I knew that I didn't have much time.
