I'm here! I'm here!

I'm changing my other character to this fellow. We need a kinda ghostly character in our mix.

Name: Jackson Perry

Age: 12

Gender: Male

Human

Appearance: pale white hair, brown eyes, short in height.

Personality: You'll see. Like I said before, he's ghostly and manages to know all.

Talent: Calm. Very very calm. Always calm.

Other: Is made fun of for his hair.

His personality will change slightly, but it will be

Jackson~

I'm the only one out here, besides three others. One sells clocks, the other whisks away. I inch closer.

"....Do you have proof?" Ah, yes, they are talking about Thrum. I blink toward them.

"Hello. What may you be talking about?" I whisper quietly, looking at them intently.

"Oh, it's Icehead!" The girl laughs, her fire red hair streaming around her face.

"I would prefer you don't call me that," I sigh.

"Why not, dumbo? You care about that machine, too?" she snarls.

"Yes. It is very powerful, you know." I look at her. "By the way, you should be a bit nicer."

Tigereye~

You should be a bit nicer, you know.... what do I care? No ones ever been "nice" to me.

"I don't even see why I stick around here anymore. I don't care if the Thrum dies." Mother used to say that sometimes I was on fire. I used to be confused about this, knowing that I had never actually burned myself or caught on fire before. Now, I know exactly what she meant. I am on fire now (figurativly speaking).

"Fine. Leave," the boy with the ice hair says, incredably placid. I try to think of his name, but I draw a blank. My flames are roaring now. Ice against Fire.

"What has this place ever meant to me? Fine then. I'll leave," but I am glued to the marketplace. I can't leave, where will I go? I turn my head away, blinking back hot tears and composing myself quickly. I can't say anything, because I know I will start crying if I try to speak. I stare into the boy's brown eyes, my own burning with flames. Fine then. I'll leave.

Edvard~

No one is worried. No one concerned.  Neither the elf, nor the red-haired girl, or the boy. They see the city working perfectly  before them,  and can not comprehend change.

Arg. They are madding, expectly the red-haired one, who ran off from the Main Square after getting in an argument with the boy.

We watch her leave, no one going after her. A moment of silance passes as the elf and the boy glare at me. l nervously scuff my feet on the cobblestones and stare at them as if there is something very exciteing down there.

The icy silence is broken by the chimes of a clock, announcing  the hour.

Bong

Bong

"See," says the elf, "that clock is working just fine, therfore The Thrum is working just fine."

There is one final bong, and then it stops. It all stops. The whole city suddenly becomes colder and greyer. And silent. Silence louder then any sound could ever be. Silence like time had stopped. Silence like death.

We glance around, confused. Then it dawns on me.

Everything powered by The Thrum has stopped. Everything. All the clocks, the steam-trains, the lights. All the pumps that bring water to the crops,  the machines that purifiy the water, and- Oh. Oh no.

The gates to the city are powered by The Thrum. Without it, we can not close the gates, and anyone could just march in. That's not the worst. All of the large weapons that defend the city in case of attack are disabled.

No gates, no weapons. This city is defenceless against anyone with a large enought army.

You can now see that Tigereye can really get on your nerves...

Also, she has no family. She lives alone.

Tigereye~

The Thrum has stopped. The Thrum has stopped. The Thrum has stopped. I am leaving. I am leaving. The Thrum has stopped.

My shoes slap onto the ground, forming this ominous rhythm. I push nervous people aside; running away. I have learned that you can run away from your troubles, in fact, it is the best way to get rid of mine. I fly through the city gates and out into the world, sprinting away from the gearsy world  I have lived in all my life. I stop to rest by a tree, breathing hard. Looking back, I cannot see the huge city behind me. Then, I hear a voice. It sounds like patterns and well-oiled gears all cliking together.

"Tigereye, only you can save the Thrum." I don't usually get panicked, but I am now glancing around fearfully. The voice is coming from nowhere.

"I don't even care about the Thrum. I am not even a mechanic," I yell into the air. There is silence.

"Only you know how to fix it."

"I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE THRUM, AND I CANNOT FIX IT!"

"You alone cannot fix it." Frusterated now, I want to scream and yell. I don't. All I do is lean against the trunk of the huge brown tree. My heart beat sounds very much like the Thrum used to.

Jackson~

I must take extreme measures. We need that girl. I don't like to yell, or scream, but we can stop it.

"Tigereye! Come back! Please!" I streak toward her. I feel cloth next to me and notice the boy near me. Good. Not surprised though. This was destined.

"Why do you need her?" he mumbles.

"Edvard, please allow me to concentrate," I sigh. He frowns.

"What can we do? What can YOU do?" he replies back.

"A lot of stuff." I grab on to Tigereye's shirt and pull her toward me.

"Let go, Ice! Let go!" she screeches. People circle around us to not be part of it.

"Please, stop struggling." I calmly pull her somewhere without people. Edvard follows.

"What do you want with me?" she hisses.

"I think you already know."

"People!" l shout, trying to get their attention. "We have no time for this! Do you real-"

"Edvard, be quite!" Exclaims Jackson.

"Why? l-"

"Both of you, QUIT TALKING!" cries Tigereye. "We wouldn't get anything done here!"

"Whatever," l mumble.  Tigereye signs. There is a patter of feet, and the elf, Crescent, runs up to us. "What are you doing?"

l sign. "No idea. Ask them." l gesture to Jackson and Tigereye. Crescent turns to them. "What is going on here?"

Jackson~

I roll my eyes despite myself.

"Ask Tigereye," I reply.

"Alright fine! I'll say it." She sighs deeply. "I heard some strange voices that... That told me I could fix it...?"

"Good. Now, you, Edvard. You heard anything?" I ask, glancing at him. He shrugs.

"Not that I know of."

"Then you'll have some soon. Elf, anything?"

"Nothing."

"Same as Edvard, then." I look around and breathe deeply.

"You all think I'm crazy, right?" I look at them, brushing hair out of my face.

"Exactly." Tigereye yanks her shirt out of my grasp.

Tigereye~

I don't tell them what the voice had also said: "You cannot do it alone." More like I cannot do it at all, I think.

"Look, you want me to fix the Thrum, FINE. But how?" I reply glaring at the boy.

"Ask Crescent," he replies mysteriously.

"Who is Crescent?" I ask.

"I am, and if you think I know how to fix the Thrum..." The elf steps forward. She says this without indignation, but with confusion.

"We have to fix it soon," the other boy replies urgently. I am pretty sure his name is Edvard.

"Crescent, lead the way," the boy with the ice-hair says.

"Fine, but I don't know where I am going," Crescent replies nervously.

Crescent~

When l said l didn't know where l was going, l meant it. The others didn't seem to take me seriously.

We had been weaving though the streets  for about ten mintues when Edvard begains to complain. "Are you sure we're going the right way?"

"Of  course we are!" l tell him, although it didn't sound as confident as l would have liked it to. "Look here-"

"Wait, where are we going?" Says Edvard

Jackson signs. "Have you been listening? We're going to the castle with Th-"

"Oh. l get it now."

l try to ignore them, and concentrate on getting though the streets. l stop in confustion. Where are we? The others stop too, but not for the same reason. "What is that smell?" asks Tigereye.

l sniff the air. Something does smell  odd. Other people have noticed  it too.

Jackson points to the castle, far away on the hill. Sickly black smoke is pouring from cracks in the stone. "That can't be good." He says, frowning.

"Come on people, we need to get there as fast as we can!" l exclaim.

"What's the fastest way? All the steam-trains are down, and l think you're getting us lost." Says Edvard, glaring at me.

"l don't know! l have no idea!"

Tigereye~

Jackson throws down his hands in disgust. "Crescent, you do know how to get up there," he says. He stares hard at her, and suddenly her expression becomes peaceful. She drops her hands by her sides, and I look over to see Edvard gaping at Crescent. I don't know what he is staring at, until I look at her feet. Then I understand.

"Who are you?" I ask the ice-haired boy, in an almost fearful voice.

Edvard~

"People! Hello? Do you just want to stand around for the re-"
Jackson signs. "Would you please quit talking for once in your life?"

l fold my arms and glare at him. "We can't stand around and wait for the worst to happen. We've got to get going!"

Now Tigereye and Crescent are glaring at me.  "Do you even care?" l almost shout at them. "Or do you want to argue over every little thing?"

With that, l spin around and march down a ramdom ally. Humph. They don't care a bit about this whole thing.

l walk right into something with a crash. "What is this?" l mutter in confusion. It looks like an old steam engine, except  it has many things that would be useless for a steam engine, and it's odder shaped than any that l've seen.

l run back to where Tigereye and the others were. But they're not here. l call their names a few times, but it is all in vain.

Where did they go? They couldn't have disappeared into thin air, or could they?
