Harvest Guardians
Harvest Guardians RP
As you might guess, this is indeed the first RP I have ever made, so forgive me if I do something wrong. I got the idea for this while husking some corn yesterday. I was all like, "Why don't I do an RP on harvests?" Yeah, I know, it's a wierd way to get an idea. But ideas come from everywhere, don't they? I don't have a full plot yet, but I'm working on it. I'll post it after a few people join.
RULES~
~(VERY IMPORTANT!!) If you can't stick to this RP and post at least once a week, don't join. I hate it when people make/join an RP then forget about it the next day. I want this RP to finish, so please, please only join if you're going to be dedicated to your part.
~ONE charrie per person. Sorry, but it's easier.
~Ideal amount of charries would be 6, but 8 is max.
~Enjoy!!

.:Mia:.
Noah glances my way, scrutinizing me, and I timidly avoid his eyes. About a million thoughts about him are running through my mind right now, but I need to concentrate on bigger issues. The crops are all dead. Dead. Why would someone do such a thing? All summer we've been endlessly toiling, planting and tending in our gardens for hours in the sweltering sun. May blinks back tears, and I sling my arm around her shoulders.
"What could have done this?" June's lip trembles. I can tell she's trying her hardest to seem brave in front of her older brother, but he seems just as devastated.
"I don't know," he answers, quietly. "I don't know."
June frees Noah's arm and scrambles over to her garden, the little carrot patch she'd worked so hard on for months, and my heart slowly begins to break.
"Oh, June," May cries out, but she hesitates on the brink of her next words. What else is there to say?
Noah dashes over and grabs his sister's hand gently, guiding her back into their house. "I think it'd be best," he explains to the rest of us, his eyebrows furrowing in worry, "if we all just went home for now."
April nods and starts trudging away silently, and the rest of the kids join her. May turns to me, her eyes shiny. "Mia, can I come over? I just ... I don't want to be alone."
"Of course. It'll be okay," I promise, pulling her into a hug. She sniffles miserably.
. . .
"Hi, girls." My mother's rosy face emerges from the kitchen doorway as May and I enter the house. "I heard about the incident. I'm so sorry, my darlings."
"It's all right, Maman," I reply (my family is French). "It's not your fault."
"Why aren't you upset?" May inquires.
"I am. I just prefer to stay calm, is all."
Maman nods proudly. "That's my brave little Mia."
Brave? Please ...

Maizie~
I put my head in my arms, and sob silently. Mia sits next to me, a melancholy expression on her face. I wish I could be like her, calm in the face of possible starvation. Finally, I've had enough. I suddenly pull myself up to my feet, and wipe my tears away. Mia stands up with me. "Mia," I say, "I've had enough. Call the other children here. I will explain this later." Mia stood up and walked outside. I notice, she's been less shy lately. I'm proud of her, it must be a big effort.I heard her yell for the other kids, and soon, there was a crowd outside the door. "May!" Mia called. "They want to meet outside the in the peach orchard." "All right!" I called back. I quickly washed my face and fixed my hair, thanking Mia's mother as I walked out. Mia, April, June, Noah, Tom, Red and I walk quietly to the peach orchard. Thankfully, this part of the plantation isn't dead yet. The peaches were ruddy and ripe, and as we sat down on the grass, I noticed one plop down. After we settled down, everyone loked at me. I took a shaky breath and said, "Guys. I've had enough. We need to find out why our plantation is dying, and fast, before harvest time. So, we are going to team up, and go off, in search of the problem. Who is with me?"
(June 9, 2015 - 12:43 pm)
Red~
"Who is with me?" Maizie asks. I am digging my toes into the soft sandy earth, as much in the shade as possible.
"I am," Mia says shyly.
"Me to!" April agrees heartily, smiling. Noah and Tom nodd, Noah's gentle eyes sparkling in the hot sun. June raises her hand.
"Count me in!" She says.
"What about you, Red?" Questions Maizie.
"I um... what?" I blush slighty, my pink cheeks growing more red.

April~
((Flashback))
I stand staring at the patch of ground before me. My peas had just begun to creep up their sticks, and then... I couldn't bear it. The poles had obviously been yanked out of the ground, and my little beanstalks were drooping on the ground.
"Who could have done this?" I whisper to myself, tears filling my eyes. Pudding rubs my ankle in a soothing way, and I swallow my tears as I go to tell the others my bad news.
((End flashback))

PEEP!! St. Owl, the plants are meant to be dying in a way that looks..untouched, y'know?
(June 9, 2015 - 5:32 pm)
Tom~
I nod. I will help this cause. How could this have happened? I worked so hard, and for what? Maybe something is eating the plants. Moles? Crickets? (I meant to do that.) Were there any seagulls eating the crickets? Is that why we haven't seen them? Bats? Foxes?... People? Were people eating the crops? Not taking proper caution so the rest of them are dying? What if instead they are jumping on the crops? Dance parties? I like dance parties. I should plan one when the harvest is over. Oh yeah, the harvest! I quickly tune back in to Maizie. Oh man, she's really getting into something. I can't just listen now, I will be completley lost. I'll just ask Noah after. He always listens, and pays attention. Why can't I do that? I also don't know how to bake. I should ask one of the girls to teach me sometime.Oh...yeah one of the girls is talking. Wait, I smell... nothing. I smile, I just remembered that one time where the tomato vine looked like Noah's face. Shoot, I just smiled. What if someone noticed? I stop smiling. I try to focus. "That's why we need to do this perfectly, and.." Darn, I should have started listening while I had the chance. Now I am completely lost. Wait, what are we doing here again? Oh yeah for the crops. My eyes start to sting. My tomatoes!! NOOOOOOO! I worked soo hard! I miss my little guys. I sniffle, it sounds like I have a stuffy nose. I love you....I'm still not paying attention. I guess the only thing I can pay attention to is Noah, and gardening. I still haven't watered the......
(This is meant to be funny, plus he is a deep thinker. I am taking this seriously.)

.:Mia:.
"What about you, Red?"
"I, um ... " Red peers up at us, his face going crimson - which fits his name, ironically. "What?"
April giggles.
"I said, what about you?" May repeats with a grin. "Are you in or not?"
"In!" he exclaims, much too quickly. "Sorry, I spaced out. Yeah. I'm in."
"Cool," May decides. "So how about we all pair up?"
Wait. Pair up? I clutch May's arm instinctively. "Partners?"
She smiles knowingly. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
God bless you, Maizie Summers.
I cast my eyes over the scattered little duos the rest of the kids have formed. Noah and Tom; April and June; Red and ... wait. There are seven of us.
"Um, what should I - ?"
"It's okay! Here, you can team up with me and April." June waves towards Red with a friendly smile, and he trots over gratefully.
"Perfect!" May declares. "All right, so here's the plan."
(June 9, 2015 - 6:43 pm)
Noah~
Oh Tom...The dork, there is truly no other word for him. But he is a dork in a good way. "May...?" I ask.
"What?" She asks.
"Well..." I scratch the back of my head, "I'm...kinda lost. Your plan is very elaborate... Could you maybe simplify it a bit?"
"You have a better one?" She asks.
"No...Simplify yours, please."
"Fine."
(June 10, 2015 - 12:09 am)
Maizie~
"Could you simplify your plan a bit?" Noah asked. "Fine." I replied. "So, basically, we are going to do all we can in order to solve this mystery, starting from tonight. We will have partners, but we are all one group. We will call ourselves. The Harvest Guardians." Murmurs of approval came from the circle. "Now, I suppose you are all wondering how we begin. Well, I shall explain that later. For now, go tell your parents farewell, and meet me back here at sundown." Everyone stood up, and we all hurried away to our cabins. I made my way to my family's cabin. "Ma? Pa? Annie?" I called. "Yes, sweetie?" I heard my mother ask. My little sister, Annie, came running to me and hugged my legs. She was only four, too young to starve, I thought. I picked her up and hugged her close. "I love you Annie." I whispered. Ma came into the room. "What is it?" she asked. "Ma, the other children and I have decided to go and find out what is wrong. I came to say g'bye." "May..." my mother trailed off. She knew I must do this, and so instead of arguing, she squeezed me and said, "I'm proud of you. Go, do what you think is right, we will always be here for you." I hugged her and said, "Thanks ever so much, Ma. I promise, we will make everything right again." I took a last, long ook at my cabin, then walked outside. From the doorway, Annie waved, tears in her eyes. I guess even she understood the urgency of the situation. I waved back, then turned away. I looked at the sky, and noticed it was nearing dusk. I thought of how Mia and I would always rush to a certain high hill at this time, to watch the sunset. I blinked my eyes to get rid of the tears, the walked to a small pink and yellow knapsack lying next to the hill. I had packed this earlier, and now I slung it over my shoulder, and walked to the peach orchard in the golden light of the fading sun.

.:Mia:.
"Maman?" I call out, stepping into the house cautiously and crossing the threshold.
"Mia? Is something wrong?" She bustles in worriedly and gives me the once-over.
"No. Well, I mean, yeah. But I'm fine," I clarify. "May has a plan. We're going to figure out what's causing the crops to die."
Maman wraps her arms around me and tousles my hair affectionately. "My brave little Mia." I resist the urge to roll my eyes for quite literally the second time today. She couldn't be more wrong. But I appreciate the support, so I don't question it.
"Thanks, Maman. I love you. With all my heart," I add.
"I love you too, ma cherie."
"No, really. I do. Like, a lot." Getting very sentimental now. My eyes blur a little.
Maman smiles broadly, embracing me once more. "Now go," she commands with a wink.
"I'm going," I answer, playing along. "Au revoir."
"Au revoir, Mia."
(June 10, 2015 - 8:44 pm)
Noah~
I head back to my house with Sis on my tail. Its going to be hard for Pa to let her go. We arriver at out small hut and enter. "Pa?"
"Noah? Where have you been?"
"We came up with a plan. Me and sis, along with the others, are going to find the reason for...you know."
Pa stands up and walks over to us, his hadns on his hips. "Son..."
"Pa. I will watch her."
Pa's chin quivers slightly and he wraps us in a bear hug. "Son...you bring her back you hear? And yourself to."
I nod.
After packing some things me and Sis head back to the orchard.

.:Mia:.
Prior to leaving the house, I dash into my bedroom and toss a few things into my canvas shoulder bag, tying a hoodie around my waist in case it gets cold. I gather my inky hair up into a high, loose ponytail and rush back downstairs.
"Au revoir for real this time, Mia darling," Maman chuckles from the kitchen.
"Au revoir!" I swing the screen door wide open, venturing out into the early evening. The sun has mostly gone down, but a faint trace of red still lingers at the verge of the horizon, lighting up the earth with its opaque glow. I inhale the sweet-smelling air deeply and begin to make my way towards the orchard.
I can make out a fuzzy shadow of a figure in the distance, under a tree, obscured by the settling night. So I'm not the first to arrive. I head over, the identity of the figure becoming apparent as I approach.
Noah.
"Mia!" He turns to me and smiles. "Hi."
Wait. Is he talking to me? Of course he is, you idiot. Say something. My heart thumps. "Hi," I respond, slowly so that I won't stutter. "Um - where's June?"
"She went to get Red. They'll be here in a few minutes." Noah sticks his hand out, and I wonder if he wants me to shake it. "Here, give me your bag. I'll hang it up for you."
I shrug it off, handing it to him. "What do you mean?"
"Watch," Noah orders as he reaches upwards. He slings the strap of the bag over a low tree branch in one quick motion, and it dangles there, swaying.
"Cool, huh?"
"Yeah," I laugh. "Pretty cool."
"Did you know that's the first time I've seen you smile?" he asks, suddenly and nonchalantly.
I'm not exactly sure how to react to this.
But before I can get a word out at all, May appears, skipping over to me.
"Hey, guys!" she greets us cheerily, then stops. She glances at Noah, then at me. Then Noah again. Eyebrow raise. "Sorry, was I interuppting something?"
"No," I reply hastily.
(June 11, 2015 - 11:46 am)
Maizie~
I skipped up the hill, then stopped short at the top. I saw Mia talking to Noah. Not believing my eyes, I stepped forward. She was stuttering, but then she noticed me. "May!" she said. "Um, am I interrupting anything?" I asked, winking at Mia. "What? No!" she said hurriedly. "Hello, May." Noah said, saving Mia more embarrassment. "Hey." I replied, settng my knapsack down. "When do you guys think the rest will come?"At that moment,I saw June begin to climb the hill, panting, with the orange hair in a flurry. "Hi June!" I called. She saw us, then hurried to reach the top. "Hey guys." she said, sitting down on the grass. I looked to the base of the hill again, and saw Red, Tom and April climbing up. Once they were all here, I turned to them and said, "Follow me." I walked to ward thewest side of the hill, then motioned to everyone to sit in. When we looked forward, we saw the most beautiful sunset ever. There were swirls of orange and pinks, some glowing gold, and at the very outer rim, deep sky blue. As we watched, the glowing yellow sun sank down in the sky, lower, and lower, until at last, the last sliver was over and gone. I looked at the rest, and saw that Mia had teards in her eyes. I felt my own eyes geting blurry, but I blinked the tears away. I turned around to face the group, and said, "Come. We will start at the west acre."
