Story Chain!

Story Chain!

I think it would be fun to start a story chain. Each person can write a sentence or paragraph to the story. I'll begin...

Kelsey Rose woke up and sighed. It was the first day of school in a new town...

Ok, you continue the story. Don't be afraid to add mythical creatures, or wild adventures to the story.

Sorry, Teresa! I've been SO busy!

I flew along the halls, peering into windows and doorways, looking for something, anything, that could lead me to where the army was being held prisoner. I also kept an eye out for the stone room I'd seen in my dreams.

I was flying at top speed, when I came to an abrupt stop. I remained hovering in the air, staring at a doorway. It was shut, and looked completely average, but something kept nagging me about it. I touched down, folding in my wings. Slowly, gently, I turned the knob, and opened the door. A series of stone steps led down. I wandered down, flares simultaneously lighting themselves as I approached.

This has to be it, I thought. I continued down, the temperature decreasing with each step.

When I reached the bottom...

Sorry Blonde Heroines Rule! I'll write the next segment on this thread (and all the others I've been neglecting) as soon as NaNo ends. I'm 2,616 words behind...

When I reached the bottom, the whole area was pictch dark. Unable to see, I carefully found the nearest wall and brushed my hands against it looking for a light switch. Not finding one, I journeyed to the center of the room with my arms in the air looking for a string attached to a light bulb. My finger hit tons of cob webs until I finally found a string. I tugged on it and when nothing happened, I pulled again harder, hoping that the first try was just a fluke.

At first nothing happened, then a squeaky creak echoed throughout the room. Suddenly, something behind me hit the ground and made a splashing noise. Then, all around me splashes occured, to my right and to my left. Not knowing what was going on, I crouched down low and covered my head with my fingers. SPLASH! Something hit me on the head, whatever it was, it made me soaked. Then, everything went silent and the lights automatically turned on. Opening my eyes, I surveyed the scene around me. Colorful rubber pieces were on the wet floor. Water balloons. Why would someone have water balloons in a basement? More importantly, did the lights turn on by themselves, or was someone spying on me?

That's okay. I've been really busy too!

____________________________________________________________________________

Why water balloons? Suddenly it hit me. I jumped up in the air, spreading my wings, just as volts of electricity from the lights traveled down some exposed wire discreetly attached to the wall hitting the wet floor, causing it to cackle and spark.

Clever. Very clever. I glanced around, and saw a line of torches evenly spaced apart attached to the wall. Experimentally, I touched one.

"Light," I whispered. It did. As did all the others, suddenly bursting into flames. I pulled the cord again for the lights, and they shut off, as did the electricity. But on the safe side, I continued gliding down the hall till I was well past the any wet spots. I then touched down, folding in my wings, and crept forward along the hallway. At the end, I came to another spiral stair case, this time heading upward.  I could faintly hear noise floating down. I started up, listening, torches lighting themselves as I went. I suddenly heard a voice. A voice I recognized from my dream. The tiny Linixie. I spread my wings once and more, and shot up the staircase. At the top, I alighted softly. It was one main, massive room, divided into smaller cells. Inside each one, four or five members of the army sat. All were thin and pale, many wounded. I remained in the shadows, grief, guilt, and anger tearing at my heart.

How could Amnester do this?! But I knew perfectly well. He'd do anything, anything, to get the power he wanted. Including hurting the innocent.

There must have been fifteen cells in the room. Doing the math (15x5=75), I discovered that nobody escaped Amnester but me. I wanted to cry, I wanted to go home, but I couldn't. It was my duty as the leader to help my army, however worn and ragged they might be.

I descended to the floor, my wings disappearing. Some linixies saw me, their eyes following me as I took each step. Others just stared listlessly at the nearest wall. Nobody smiled or said a word, which I found very odd. I thought that they would light up when they saw me.

Confused, I walked up to the nearest cell. "Sara?", I whispered hopefully to my friend who was looking at me with her empty eyes. Sara turned her head and stared at the the wall, her arms wrapped around her knees. Stunned at the treatment, I tried again with Zina. I got the same response.

Moving back towards the middle of the room, I thought of all the reasons my army, excuse me, friends would treat me like this. Maybe they had lost faith in me. I did abandon them, but I came back, every time. Maybe they were too hungry to talk. I shook my head at both of those ideas, my friends wouldn't act like this. Thinking a bit more, I figured out that it was possible that Amnester threatened them, saying that if anyone interacted with me, they would be punished. That was my most promising bet, but how would Amnester know I was interacting with them?

Suddenly it dawned on me! Whirling around, I spotted the red circle inside every cell. When I first came in, the circle had a bright, steady red light. At the time, I assumed that the circle acted as a night light, but now I knew it was a button. The button would alert Amnester that I was here. Taking a good look at the circle, I found out that it was blinking. Someone in this room had pressed the button, betraying me and my cause.

I had to get out of here, fast, but it was too late. Ten of Amnester's guards rushed in the room surrounding me. I was trapped in a circle of men, their spears aimed towards me.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" Amnester said, gloating. I needed to escape now, so I spread my wings and started to rise above the guards and Amnester. Laughing, Amnester pulled out an object that looked like a pen and aimed it at me. My wings suddenly folded, sending me a one way trip to the ground. "Just so you know, your linixie powers won't work in here," Amnester smirked. "Guards, put here in an empty and isolated cell, until I am ready to deal with her," Amnester said, heading out the door with his two adoring side kicks, Iggy and Meredith.

The guards dragged me to a cell. All my supposed 'friends' watched them lead me away.

Ah, sorry Teresa. I've been trying to get to this.

I sat in my cell, staring at the wall. It was a large room, like the top of a castle tower, with one window.  I kept replaying the events over and over. My army, my friends, instead of trying to help me save them, turn me in. I couldn't believe it. What could Amnester really do that he hasn't already? Put them in jail, tortured them, starved them, what else? Suddenly, the door. swung open, and Amnester walked in. He chuckled.

"You forget, I can still follow you. I am now part of you. And the longer I am, the stronger our connection is. You can't stop it, you can't get rid of me.

You don't know that, you overgrown rodent.

"Yes, actually, I do," Amnester said smiling.

Like he read my mind.

"Exactly!"

I suddenly felt sick. Not even my thoughts were my own. Amnester just laughed, then looked at me very seriously.

"If you do not do exactly as I tell you, Kelsey Rose, all, and I mean all of your friends will suffer for it."

"What am I to do?" I asked, just as seriously.

"I want your linixie powers to give me strength. The strength to over power Queen Alvara. Then I can rule the entire land for myself."

My mind whirled at a hundred miles an hour. "Who?" Was all I managed to say.

"The Queen," Amnester said through gritted teeth. "She rules over everything in this dimension aside from the human world."

I was reeling, trying to take this all in. Amnester rubbed his head.

"Ugh, hearing your thoughts right now is giving me a migraine. I'll return soon enough." And with that, Amnester left the room.

I waited several moments. Now that he was gone, I noticed the lack of a slightly painful pressure just behind my forehead.

I guess he can't hear me without being right here. There was only one thing left I could do. I closed my eyes and concentrated on Sofie.

I focused on Sophie with my whole mind, not letting any other thought enter. I pictured Sophie to the best of my ability, but her features were hazy since I had not seen her for a while. "Sophie," I whispered, my eyes closed and fists clenched. I concentrated like I never had before, my life was on the line.

After two hours of exhausting concentration, there was still no sign of Sophie. My energy was depleted, I collapsed onto the hard, cold floor. I was in danger and I could do nothing to save myself. Torrents of tears slid down my cheeks, while my breathing became labored. Scared and exhausted, I fell into a deep slumber, unaware of the danger heading my way.

Sorry Teresa! I actually had something written for this, but then it got deleted! Ergh! But anyways...

I wasn't sure how long I had slept. It felt like hours, though it could have been only a few minutes. I wasn't sure what had woken me, but I sensed... something. I remained quite still. I heard it before I saw it. It sounded like a chain mesh being slid across the floor. Though it was heavy, and big. Only a single torch burned behind me, casting my shadow out into the middle of the floor. Something flashed in and out of the light.  A tail. I only glimpsed it, but I saw enough. It's scales, a deep off green, shone and flashed in the light.  At the end, though it may have only been the light, I could have sworn I saw a small flame, yet I couldn't see it in the dark.

I took a deep, calming breath. I was determined not to show my fear.  "Who or what are you?" I heard something like a deep, hissing laugh. The thing started to move toward me. At the edge of the light, I could make out a silhouette, like black on black. It slowly made it's way into the light. I nearly screamed. It was all I could do to keep from gasping aloud. It was evidently a serpant of some sort. It's head rose to six or seven feet. It's whole body was the same off green, though it's stomach was a greyish white. A flame did dance at the tip of it's tale, though would sometimes flicker out. The odd thing was though, it had a white mane flickering half way down it's neck. It's black eyes were like any persons. It was like something out of greek mythology. It flicked it's forked tongue in and out.

I stood slowly, keeping eye contact. I could have sworn it smiled.

The creature stood only three feet in front of me, its beady eyes staring back at me. It moved six inches forward, causing me to take a cautious step backwards into the wall. In one lunge, the creature could easily hurt me.

Still keeping eye contact, I gulped then whispered, "Good boy. I-I won't hurt you if you don't hurt me".  It's eyes narrowed and the creature hissed as it lunged it's head towards me. I screamed, stunned and agonized, while scrunching into a ball on the floor. The creature's head was literally one inch from where my face was.

Breathing heavily as the creature circled me, I didn't notice the footsteps outside my cell door until the jangle of keys met my ears. A person! I sighed relieved, someone was coming to help me. The creature also heard the noise and tilted its head so that it faced the door.

Two seconds later, a figure stepped in and closed the door behind himself. Striking a match, the figure lit a torch and held it high above his head surveying the scene. It was Amnester.

"Alright Balerion, back off. We have had enough fun for today, go back home," Amnester said to the creature. Balerion perked up at the sound of Amnester's voice and literally skipped out of the room, it's tail wagging happily.

Amnester turned his attention to me. I stood up, brushing the dirt off my clothes and glared at him. "This was your doing wasn't it?" I asked pointedly of Amnester. Amnester grinned like the Grinch and cackled, "Yes, it was. Brilliant indeed!" "It wasn't that brilliant," I muttered under my breath. Amnester either ignored my remark or didn't hear it because he continued, "Will you now willing let me take 100% of your linixie powers?" "No," I said defiantly, looking up at his eyes.

Amnester looked flustered. He was surprised that I would disagree so quickly after being tormented. I wasn't like the rest of my troops, who would disown their beliefs and cause at the hand of their enemy. I was strong and brave.

"No, I will not," I repeated. Amnester pivoted on his foot and walked out of the cell. Before shutting the door, he turned to me, "You will regret your decision. Worse is to come". He slammed the door shut, leaving me to my thoughts.
