So.  Come on,

Chatterbox: Inkwell

So.  Come on,

So.  Come on, admit it.  We've all had writer's block.  Don't you wish that some fairy godmother would come and give you the perfect idea?  Well that's what this thread is for!  When you have an idea you don't want to use for your writing, or don't mind having it altered or used by someone else, you post it here.  If you have writer's block, you can use one of the ideas to give you a boost on your writing.

Tip: Shout "I have Writer's Block!" at the top of your lungs.

Now that sounded really cheesy.  YERSS!  Without You from My Fair Lady just came on Pandora.  I think it's my new favorite song.

Thanks.  I write better when I'm feeling crazy, even just a list like that.  And looking over that list, I must have been insane at that moment.

For writers block, I try writing something I don't usually write about. Like a tragedy, or mystery, or something you haven't totally drained your brain of. It doesn't have to be good, but it helps give you new ideas! And NEVER EVER consider you can't do it! "I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me."

When you're at a low spot for ideas, try and scour your brain for you dreams.  That seriously helps.

Top!

When you can't think of a place to go with your writing, work on developing your characters or further outlining your story.

Have at least one crazy person in your story.

(to boost NaNo wordcount) have a character with more than one name (i.e. Nicholas Bram Judson Bartholomew) that insists on being called by all of their names.

Spamster in his spamster cage says xmax.  Christmax?

Top o' the mornin' to ye, thread!

1. Write a scenario around the next song with words that you listen to.

2. Think up a nonsense word and make up a meaning for it.  Put that in your story.

3. Include a reference to one of your favorite books.

4. Have your math teacher walk in.

5. Bats tend to be scary.

6. Get up out of your chair and spin around in circles.

7. Give your eyes a rest from the screen (if you're writing from there).

8. Stretch.

9. 'ave somun talk in a funny way, loik.

10. Put something crazy your friends said recently in your story (also look at the Quoties thread on CaC).

11. Turn off the screen and just type.

12. Flashbacks always loosen up the old brain.

13. Have one of your characters start singing a really ridiculous song.

14. Drink a cup of tea.

15. Look in your desk drawer.  Pick out an item.  Throw it past your main character's head.

16. Make an animal talk.  If animals already talk, have an inanimate object talk.

17. As Val (I think it's Val) from the NaNoWriMo musical says, Any Draft Will Do, so keep pluggin away at it until something happens.

18. Fireworks!

19. Think of an absolutely terrible pun and write a scene around it.

20. Changes in the POV tend to free up your writing, even if you end up changing it back to the original narrator later on.  Or try it in third person.  Or make it meta!  But not a dream.

Spamster in his spamster cage says grah.  That's how I feel right now.  GRAAAAHHH.

Is that honking part of the Mozart?

I didn't read this until now, but in my NaNo novel I wrote about a character named Scott who had to sing the Dora the Explorer theme song and dance in order to get a pancake.

I have had it multiple times. Most recently with my Bill and Ted/Oz fanfic.

This is the most amusing thread I've read in a long time! Whenever I have writer's block, it usually stems from my brain screaming at me to WRITE ANOTHER STORY THIS INSTANT! So I walk away from the story, kick a stuffed-toy around the room for a moment, then begin to write that other story. Usually, that becomes dull, and I go back to the original.

When things get really blocked up, I just leave it. Forcing a story is as painful as pulling teeth and even less satisfactory.

Sometimes it's fun to incorporate some of your story written with text messages, IMing or email.  Although that wouldn't really work with some genres.  It's like a looser form of dialogue.

I have a funny character idea! A guy who takes different paragraphs from different books and puts them together!
