Democrat or Republican...
I am just curious which everybody is and why they are. Some of you might be too young to really know. I only really really thought about it starting a couple years ago. Before that I didn't really understand. Which are you Admin?
i don't consider myself either. I consider the qualities and qualifications of each candidate and how they stand on important issues and vote for the one I think will do the best job regardless of party.

I don't necessarily mean just who you vote for I mean what you think government should be. I am completely a Republican and extremely conservative. That doesn't mean I won't vote for a Democrat when I am old enough to vote, it just means that I think that the people should have the power, not the government. This used to be a free country but now even though it still is more than others there are a lot of things we're not free to do anymore and there are things we are forced to do. Just to let you know I am not debating these are just my reasons for being a republican.

What is so wrong with stating your opinion? There's nothing unbelievable about having a conversation about politics.

Well, back in the dawn days of the Chatterbox the threads on it were, shall we say, heated. That and other sensitive topics.
(Maybe I'm exxageraging a little, but you'd have to decide for yourself. The oldest threads are in the very back.)

Democratics the same!

I would choose probably not to be in either group. I'm a conservative, though. If I had to pick one it would be Republican.

Well, I come from a long line of Democrats. (Wow, that sound kinda funny.) I tend to think Democratically about a lot of things, however I agree with TNÖ and the Admin when it comes to candidates. I like to look all the candidates and see who I think would be the best president. Yes, even after looking at both I would usually vote Democratic, but you never know. I just don't want to be one of those close-minded people that won't change their mind no matter what. It's good to be open, I believe. Also, I listen to NPR almost every day, because I like to hear what's going on, and I want to hear both sides of political discussions. I just don't want to be a lemming and follow everything my parents say. I want to make my own political decisions based on my own values. Even though I basically believe what my parents do. But I also like to have a wide knowledge of what's going on, and know what everyone thinks.
As you can probably tell, I am really into politics and love thinking about it. Sometimes, I don't agree with either parties about some things, sometimes (rarely, but still sometimes) I agree with Republicans. It depends on the issue and how they fit in with my set of beliefs.

I think my biggest factor would be that I'm largely pro-life and most Deomcrats are not. So, I'm going to be against anyone who thinks the opposite of me in that subject. No matter what.
(April 15, 2011 - 7:21 pm)
I agree with R~D. No matter which party, it all comes down to single issue voting. I will support whomever agrees with me on that one issue. For example, if there were still slavery, we'd all of course vote for whomever opposed slavery, no matter their party. That is called single issue voting.
(April 19, 2011 - 12:38 pm)
I can see how that would definitely work generally, but wouldn't there be a few exceptions?
(April 19, 2011 - 2:28 pm)
My dad thinks-- and I would tend to agree with him-- that one ought to approach voting with a "Lesser of Two Evils" philosophy, in that all politicians are (A) greedy, (B) corrupt, (C) humans prone to mistakes, (D) filthy liars or (E) all of the above, so the best candidate to choose is the one who seems the least greedy/corrupt/mistake prone/etc. while still claiming to adhere mostly to my own principles.
(April 20, 2011 - 2:38 pm)
Yeah, I think a Lesser of Two Evils approach really is the best way to go about it.
Also: "The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

HG2G! YAY!
@Ima: Well, yes, and that's rather the point of elections, isn't it?
(As for me, I mentioned that government spending was a big issue so far as I'm concerned. Also, being sensible about alternate energy goals [i.e., we are NOT stopping use of fossil fuel completely in the next ten years, unless something really really major and unexpected happens to make it profitable to do so. Decrease? Certainly. Stop completely? Laughable]. If, on top of that, they had some BRILLIANT PLAN for fixing the road/bridge system, cleaning up the food industry/shifting away from corn-based food production, fixing the water/sewer system, and/or making the electric grid smart, without bankrupting the country, then... yeah.
Actually, probably just that last would be enough for me to vote for a candidate, provided I thought their BRILLIANT PLAN would work. ("Why I'd be so conscientious that I might vote twice!"). But, given the vast unlikelihood of that acutally happening...
(April 20, 2011 - 6:31 pm)
Yes, for the most part, I would agree, but which do you think would be the lesser of 2 evils? It depends on what's more important to you personally.
Ima, I've deleted some of your comment and a parts of a few before it that mention a specific topic which we deem too advanced for some of our younger readers. We trust you will understand.

I've heard that some of these got a little out of hand, so I'm posting under a different name. I'm a Republican and with Mattie and RD. My parents are, and I agree with them.
We're making every effort to avoid anything getting out of hand, avoiding specific sensitive topics or negative comments directed at specific people.

Yes, the topic that I brought up can be mature for some viewers, so I've been sensoring how I put it. Ima, that's true. And I'll have to think about that. But, if the candidate isn't giving money to that cause, then I'm satisfied.
