@MJ: Now I'm REALLLLLLY jealous.  I have to take a six week (or something like that) drivers ed class within 10 days of getting my permit, if I'm not 15 and a half.  If I'm 15 and a half and get my permit, then I don't have to take a drivers ed class right away, but I'll still have to eventually take one. Which I absolutely, positively do NOT want to do.  So... *puppy eyes* can we move to GA until I turn 16, please, daddy? :)

Your cake looks really cool! Did it taste good?

I hope I can keep up with everyone's questions!

@ Vida and anyone else who asked this--it was a chocolate cake with vanilla icing. It tasted great! Especially the "meatballs"; they were very moist and were dusted with powdered sugar to look like parmesan cheese. (btw, I posted the picture by dragging it from a web page in my email where I had already posted it.) I highly doubt I could be a pro...I got off very lucky to have a cake looking that good!

@ R~D--I'm not exactly sure what the requirements are here, but I know for sure that you don't have to take a class immediately afterwards. When my sister got her permit, she waited about 9 months before taking the class. I'll probably take the class in the summer, like she did, when they offer it. I've heard it's super boring. :P But here, you have to wait a year and a day after you get your permit to get your actual license. So in a year from today, I'll be getting it! Why they had to add the one day on there, I have no idea. Oh, and the cake was just something I decided to try this year. I'm glad I did!

The cake does look awesome. Very good!

In Iowa, you can get your permit at 14, then you can get a permit and 16 after taking a four-week, two hours every day class, plus the driving class, and 20 driving hours with a parent/guardian. (I only know this in such detail because I just signed up for the class in June.)

That is really weird that there is an extra day!

What's a permit?

Okay, I'm positive my comment said this when I originally posted it:

For some reason it got really scrambled...?

@ Elizabeth M.--a pemit, or learner's permit, is a temporary license for teenagers (it depends on the state to decide the age) so they can learn to drive before they get a real driver's license. With a learner's permit, you can only drive if an adult with a driver's license is with you. I'm not sure how it works in Germany, so maybe you could tell us.

I'll get back to you on how that works! I get it now. So, you can basically drive. Is it scary or fun? Have you gone on the highway yet?

Mary Jo, your cake looks amazing!! I wish we did cake decorating. I have a friend who's really into cake decorating... And Adam 12 and chickens *cough cough*. Anyway, about how long did it take to make it? Where did you get the recipe? Do you always decorate a homemade cake for your birthday? Oh, and do you shop at Kroger? I saw a box in the picture that looked like a Kroger item. There are a lot of Krogers in Georgia, aren't there? It sounds like you're going to get your driver's liscense pretty soon! Wow. I haven't even really thought about driving yet. One of my Aunts is kind of pushy about it, though, and it's pretty obnoxious. I'm happy for you, though!

Peacing out for now,

Happy belated Birthday MJ!!!!!!!!

Your cake looked delicious. I love decorating cakes. Have you ever tried making flowers out of gumdrops? That must be really exciting to be getting your permit. I am not sure if I will be allowed to get one right when I am 15.
