Spelling Bees!!!
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Spelling Bees!!!
Spelling Bees!!!
Anyone on here participate??? I won my school spelling bee again, but it was harder than it has been in the last two years. Right now I'm studying for our County Bee. I'm not expecting to win, though. Pfeffernuss? Tchotchke? Waterzooi? Cappelletti? Rejoneador? Crazy! I'm just really happy I get to go, considering I was up against a girl who competed at the Midwest Bee.
So anyone on here competing? I think Ima is..........

I don't choose my voices, either; they just end up sounding the way they do. I can try to change them if I find out they're incorrect, but it's difficult, so it's always really annoying to me when I'm reading a book and suddenly, halfway through, it'll say something about a character's appearance or voice that's different from the way I imagined it, because it's so hard for me to get used to the real thing (one example would be the Inkworld Trilogy; it wasn't revealed until the 2nd book that Meggie had blonde hair, and I'd always imagined it as dark brown). Even my online voice doesn't sound exactly the way it does in real life. I also like to know who posted a comment before I read it, though sometimes with longer posts it's fun to just try and guess, which generates a new voice unless it's extremely obvious.
I've occasionally wished I thought in words; as it is, I it takes me quite a while to put my thoughts into words for speaking, and there are always these really long pauses when I know what I want to say but not how to say it; it can get really annoying. On the other hand, I have good visualization skills, which can sometimes come in handy.
I also read CoN in CSL's voice, and Series of Unfortunate Events is in Lemony Snicket's voice.
I have 'standard' character voices and appearances as well, especially with names. This can cause confusion when multiple characters in a book or multiple people on aa website have the same (or at least similar) names, because tbey always look so similar to me.
Aetc says nyzu. NY zoo? What about it? Are you there?

Last night, I dreamed that I went to see Mockingjay at the spelling bee. Instead of a written part, they did a singing part, which was really strange. I think I was woken up before the end, so I don't know who won, but Mockingjay did very well; I believe she was still there when I woke up.

Wow, thats strange. Singing Bee?? That would bee so cool.............

Mine's on the 26th! I'm really excited!
Elizabeth D, you live in the Houston area, right? This is going to be on local television, so you can watch if you want! I can't tell you who I am, though; I don't really feel comfortable with that. I'll tell you my place afterward, though, so you can probably figure it out then! It's on Houston PBS at 2:00 PM. Of course, you don't have to watch; I'm just letting you know that you can if you want. No-one else can because they're too far away.

Detc says ahdr! Ah, Dr. Otter!

I would like to watch it. We don't have cable but I think that we still have PBS. I hope you win. :D

Thanks! I certainly do, too (obviously). It would be really, really awesome! My first name's Katie, by the way; I don't think anyone else with that name is competng.
I can't believe it's only 2 days away!
Mockingjay, when's yours? I could probably find out via Google, but that would feel too stalkerish.

Mine was March 12th, and I got out on quiche. :( I think I might have gotten it if I asked for language of origin, but I don't think we got the option. I knew most of the other words, though. We stayed and watched the whole thing, and it was really cool to watch the oral showdown. Good luck Ima!

Thank you! I'm sorry you missed a word. What grade are you in (because I'm wondering whether you'll be young enough to compete next year)?
I just watched the first round of last year's spelling bee for my region, and it looked like I probably could have gotten past it. It was the first round, though, and they get harder with each round. *worries*
(March 25, 2011 - 4:02 pm)
I'm in 7th grade and I'm 13. At the Midwest Bee, you can compete in FOURTH GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that was crazy.
(March 26, 2011 - 11:16 am)
Crazy? Why? If you're good enough at spelling, shouldn't you be allowed that opportunity? You have to win other of spelling bees to get there, so it's not as if they're wasting people's time. At least one 8-year-old has gotten to the national level, though not won. You can compete in third grade over here.
I'm in 7th grade, too, but still 12. I got out in the 3rd round on parallax.

Oh, I'm sorry, Ima. At least you got as far as you did!
Was this your last year, or can you still compete next year? (I'm sorry if this was mentioned already, if it was I missed it.)
(March 27, 2011 - 3:32 pm)
I can still compete next year, luckily. It'll be my last year, though. The last few words were so difficult, though, that I don't see any way to possibly win without first reading the entire dictionary. So, yeah. I'm going to have a lot of work to do... ;) It'll be worth it if I win, though; I'd get a plethora of prizes and the chance to compete in the national bee in Washington DC, which in itself is a lifelong dream of mine.

True, but I guess I think it's crazy because only 7th and 8th graders areaa llowed to compete from my county. Great job on making it to the third round!
