First show night!
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
First show night!
First show night!
Tonight was the opening night for Alice in Wonderland! Everyone did great! I will tell you all about it! Prepare for the amazingly insane rambles of mines.
So, on the auditions, I was nervous. When I left I felt like I was not going to get in, and that I was going to cry... But I got in! A speaking part! First I was going to be Violet, a speaking flower, but then they called me and asked if I would rather be Trey, a card. I chose Trey, and I am happy about that! So is the wonderfully amazing girl that now plays Violet! :D
At the auditions, I was just quiet, listening to random strangers having conversations. Yay. So fun. /sarcasm. The person that I now talk with the most seemed a little different, I actually thought when I first saw him. 'He knows Christa. I wonder if he is auditioning...' And he did, obviously; otherwise he wouldn't be playing Ace, one of the cards. Now he seems different... More talky person like. Mason (my friend who gets mistaken as my brother a lot who is in AiW with me) said something to me and then (the guy who I talk with a lot), let's call him Toil* he asked what. And I was like what? And now I sound like a normal preteen person, saying 'like' quite a lot...
And then I came to rehearsal! Yay! Fun! Say lines, blah blah blah... Ooo! eighth rehearsal and the Cheshire Cat is now changed, and the white rabbit has dropped out, and we are all supposed to know all our lines by now, and...
Chaos. Complete chaos. And then the March Hare gets arrested and drops out, and so does a card. And then, another card has become the March Hare, and now we only have four cards. I got given more lines, so I am on stage more. A fortnight before the show.
Alice (who is almost 20) kept on asking Mason (who is 10) if he will be her girlfriend. He said no, and Toil got confused about that, trying to convince Mason to say yes. I was tempted to ask him a question like this, "So if Violet (who is 9) said she wanted to be your girlfriend, would you 'go for it' as you told Mason to do if any random girl liked him?" And Toilet is 18, not as much of an age difference as Mason and Alice... I am guessing he would say no, and then he would be a hypocrite.
And then another one of the cards drop out. It seems to be becoming a trend! One of the director's friends then was the card, and it was fine, except he only had about eight rehearsals to learn all his lines.
No one else dropped out after that, happily. And I noticed that I was the only female card.
And then it was two more rehearsals before the opening act, and we were horrible. On book, forgetting lines... People were almost crying. But the many inspirational speeches helped them become cheerful again. Here are examples: White Rabbit said, "The theater is like a home for me. A second home. You all our my family, a whole big family. We can do this - I know we can. If you come back next rehearsal and on book, - I know I am little (she is a 90-pound 16-yr.-old...) - but I will get very angry. And you do not want me to be angry." She was obviously joking, for my people laughed. And then Toil started to say, "This is going to be my last show in the state, 'cause I have to go to college after this, and I want to have a good time. I know I'm going to have a good time!" And many many more. Oh, and dramatically the caterpillar was saying, "There are only two days left of rehearsal - Two days. Two days! TWO DAYS!" and yelling things related to that. And then a card burst out, yelling at everyone, including the director/Mad Hatter in words I would rather not recite... Then he stormed out and spied on us. He did not drop out though. YAY!
O, how I do love theater drama... /sarcasm
The next two rehearsals went really well - I was told I was uber-loud, and that I was coming out of my shell. Toil was told he was cute as a button, so then I started calling him 'Button'. HaHa...
And then it was the first show! The opening night! WOOHOO! Everybody was really happy, delighted, hyped up. I just like using very short descriptive words. And then a card put my makeup on. And the cat did my eyeliner.
And then I was running around the building, to get to the lobby, so as the walk through the audience onto the stage, following Toi. People were coming in to see the show at the same time we were coming in to start it. So they just laughed at our costumes. I just noticed something; I think that the people that laughed at our costumes was my cousin and his girlfriend... Heh.
And then we went on stage, and my stomach felt like their were little lightening bugs flying around in my stomach. I said my lines, and the nervousness went away. It felt so great...
And it continued, and when Toil and I were waiting for the time for us to open the curtain so the flowers will be seen, we were backstage, on our knees, hands clasped together singing. Then we opened the curtain, scrambled on stage, and began to garden.
And then at the end of the play, we ran off stage, and as the narrator said her lines we ran around the building to the backstage. We were all out of breath, and we were also leaning on each other, fixing each others heads** And then we bowed after the Tweedles. While the other cards and I came out to bow, I heard someone yell 'Cards!" and there was ear-splitting clapping. I loved it, the feeling.
I will miss everybody after I say goodbye to them, once we leave the cast party. When I take the last bow, my heart will sink, as it did in the end of Aladdin and Peter Pan. But it will come back up again, and I know I will see almost all of the people again. And I also know I will see them for Little Shop of Horrors and Glee... I might even try out for them!
But I can keep in touch with them on FaceBook... I am already friends with most of the people that I know. I wonder if Toil's on FB...
After the show I talked with people, and my dad told me what he thought about it; he said that he loved the insane look in my eyes while I was on stage, and my smile. I have a missing tooth, and he said it mad eme look even madder. I wasn't tryig to look crazy... I was trying to look interested.
After that I also grabbed a program, and they spelled my last name right! Other theaters never have! Yay! And then I got my bag, said buy, and went home with my family.
*While Toilet was telling people what they could call him, a little flower just said, "i'll call you Toilet." he thought it was the most adorable thing ever. And then she called him Toilet again, and he quietly said 'aawww...'
**I will explain what my costume looks like; I have to wear white
tights, black shorts, black shoes and a white shirt. Over that I wear a
white vest with three red hearts glued on to it, and swirly threes also
glued on it, to show I am a three card of hearts. I also wear a red
hat the shape of a heart, with a heart shaped hole. People sweat easily
in the costume. And I wear make up. And I loath make up.
Wow. That was long. Sorry Admins!
