First show night!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

First show night!

First show night!

Tonight was the opening night for Alice in Wonderland!  Everyone did great!  I will tell you all about it!  Prepare for the amazingly insane rambles of mines.

So, on the auditions, I was nervous.  When I left I felt like I was not going to get in, and that I was going to cry...  But I got in!  A speaking part!  First I was going to be Violet, a speaking flower, but then they called me and asked if I would rather be Trey, a card.  I chose Trey, and I am happy about that!  So is the wonderfully amazing girl that now plays Violet!  :D

At the auditions, I was just quiet, listening to random strangers having conversations.  Yay.  So fun.  /sarcasm.  The person that I now talk with the most seemed a little different, I actually thought when I first saw him. 'He knows Christa.  I wonder if he is auditioning...'  And he did, obviously; otherwise he wouldn't be playing Ace, one of the cards.  Now he seems different...  More talky person like.  Mason (my friend who gets mistaken as my brother a lot who is in AiW with me) said something to me and then (the guy who I talk with a lot), let's call him Toil* he asked what.  And I was like what?  And now I sound like a normal preteen person, saying 'like' quite a lot...

And then I came to rehearsal!  Yay!  Fun!  Say lines, blah blah blah...  Ooo!  eighth rehearsal and the Cheshire Cat is now changed, and the white rabbit has dropped out,  and we are all supposed to know all our lines by now, and...

Chaos.   Complete chaos.  And then the March Hare gets arrested and drops out, and so does a card.  And then, another card has become the March Hare, and now we only have four cards.  I got given more lines, so I am on stage more.  A fortnight before the show.

Alice (who is almost 20) kept on asking Mason (who is 10) if he will be her girlfriend.  He said no, and Toil got confused about that, trying to convince Mason to say yes.  I was tempted to ask him a question like this, "So if Violet (who is 9) said she wanted to be your girlfriend, would you 'go for it' as you told Mason to do if any random girl liked him?"  And Toilet is 18, not as much of an age difference as Mason and Alice...  I am guessing he would say no, and then he would be a hypocrite.

And then another one of the cards drop out.  It seems to be becoming a trend!  One of the director's friends then was the card, and it was fine, except he only had about eight rehearsals to learn all his lines.

No one else dropped out after that, happily.  And I noticed that I was the only female card.

And then it was two more rehearsals before the opening act, and we were horrible.  On book, forgetting lines...  People were almost crying.  But the many inspirational speeches helped them become cheerful again.  Here are examples: White Rabbit said, "The theater is like a home for me.  A second home.  You all our my family, a whole big family.  We can do this - I know we can.  If you come back next rehearsal and on book, - I know I am little (she is a 90-pound 16-yr.-old...) - but I will get very angry.  And you do not want me to be angry." She was obviously joking, for my people laughed.  And then Toil started to say, "This is going to be my last show in the state, 'cause I have to go to college after this, and I want to have a good time.  I know I'm going to have a good time!" And many many more.  Oh, and dramatically the caterpillar was saying, "There are only two days left of rehearsal - Two days.  Two days!  TWO DAYS!" and yelling things related to that.  And then a card burst out, yelling at everyone, including the director/Mad Hatter in words I would rather not recite...  Then he stormed out and spied on us.  He did not drop out though.  YAY!

O, how I do love theater drama...  /sarcasm

The next two rehearsals went really well - I was told I was uber-loud, and that I was coming out of my shell.  Toil was told he was cute as a button, so then I started calling him 'Button'.  HaHa...

And then it was the first show!  The opening night!  WOOHOO!  Everybody was really happy, delighted, hyped up.  I just like using very short descriptive words.  And then a card put my makeup on.  And the cat did my eyeliner.

And then I was running around the building, to get to the lobby, so as the walk through the audience onto the stage, following Toi.  People were coming in to see the show at the same time we were coming in to start it.  So they just laughed at our costumes.  I just noticed something; I think that the people that laughed at our costumes was my cousin and his girlfriend...  Heh.

And then we went on stage, and my stomach felt like their were little lightening bugs flying around in my stomach.  I said my lines, and the nervousness went away.  It felt so great...

And it continued, and when Toil and I were waiting for the time for us to open the curtain so the flowers will be seen, we were backstage, on our knees, hands clasped together singing.  Then we opened the curtain, scrambled on stage, and began to garden.

And then at the end of the play, we ran off stage, and as the narrator said her lines we ran around the building to the backstage.  We were all out of breath, and we were also leaning on each other, fixing each others heads**  And then we bowed after the Tweedles.  While the other cards and I came out to bow, I heard someone yell 'Cards!" and there was ear-splitting clapping.   I loved it, the feeling.

I will miss everybody after I say goodbye to them, once we leave the cast party.  When I take the last bow, my heart will sink, as it did in the end of Aladdin and Peter Pan.  But it will come back up again, and I know I will see almost all of the people again.  And I also know I will see them for Little Shop of Horrors and Glee...  I might even try out for them!

But I can keep in touch with them on FaceBook...  I am already friends with most of the people that I know.  I wonder if Toil's on FB...

After the show I talked with people, and my dad told me what he thought about it; he said that he loved the insane look in my eyes while I was on stage, and my smile.  I have a missing tooth, and he said it mad eme look even madder.  I wasn't tryig to look crazy...  I was trying to look interested.

After that I also grabbed a program, and they spelled my last name right!  Other theaters never have!  Yay!  And then I got my bag, said buy, and went home with my family.

*While Toilet was telling people what they could call him, a little flower just said, "i'll call you Toilet."  he thought it was the most adorable thing ever.  And then she called him Toilet again, and he quietly said 'aawww...'

**I will explain what my costume looks like; I have to wear white
tights, black shorts, black shoes and a white shirt.  Over that I wear a
white vest with three red hearts glued on to it, and swirly threes also
glued on it, to show I am a three card of hearts.  I also wear a red
hat the shape of a heart, with a heart shaped hole.  People sweat easily
in the costume.  And I wear make up.  And I loath make up.

Wow.  That was long.  Sorry Admins!

To the top?  Top what top?  Oh, top knows...

Tonight went well.  There was a long hugging session backstage, where everybody hugged each other for 5 to 10 seconds...  It was odd.  But I like hugging people...  :D  *virtually hugs every CBer*

Aragorn says, 'zbow'.  Oh, yes.  The bow.  It was wonderfully bow-like.  Some one yellled out Toil's real name.  Yay.  And we got claps!  Not as much as last night, but the cards got claps! Yay!  :D

That sounds really fun! Plays generally are. I can tell you really enjoyed it, so congratulations on being in it! Though most of what you wrote in the first post was twisted by my brain, because I just sat in my bed rereading LGW all at once, while listening to the soundtrack at the same time, twice, and I never got up or stopped reading for any reason, so I feel a bit disoriented and cannot read anything about AiW without thinking of it. (I can hardly read anything without thinking of it, in fact. It's especially unnerving when your dad goes up to you and says 'It's all in your head' just after you finish. It brings quite an extreme sense of deja vu... And just saying that made me think of the caterpilllars.). It isn't as if I haven't read for such an amount of time before, but I haven't in quite a while because I'm not actually supposed to. There's a theory that the reason my head and shoulders have been aching constantly ever since May has something to do with the fact that almost everything I do involves either reading or doing the other computer, so I should be getting up every 15 minutes. But I just couldn't stand it any longer and needed to completely immerse myself in what I'm doing. I was immensely satisfying while I was doing it, but the results take getting used to...

Heh, theatre drama. My friend at the cast party before the show, after drinking almost half a bottle of Coke: "I just had 5 cups of pure caffeine. Let's do this thing!"

*hugs everybuggy*

I did have a lot of fun!  I meant to say I wore red tights, not white.  Last show was the best!  When we were walking off after the Humpty Dumpty scene, Toil just yelled, "She said egg!" while walking off...  People laughed for a while.  And I screamed for a long amount of time, and everybody laughed at that...  Today will be the last show!  I will miss everybuggy in Alice in Wonderland...  But I am friends with them on Facebook...  And there is Little Shop of Horrors, though I may not be trying out for that, since it says I have to be 14+ to audition.  But I know the director, so I will have to ask him if I can try out, even though I am two yrs. younger than the said age.

And I am going to sit on the King's lap!  I am!

And...  Um...  *overuse of elipses*

Congrats Medd! *applauds* I did a theatre camp, uh, somewhere in July, and the performances (we had two) were reallly fun. At the end of the second performance, some of the people in my camp made a Single Ladies parody (related to the musical of course) and everyone got to perform it at the end. X-P I never thought I would like theatre, but I do. Was AiW your first time doing theatre?

No, she's done it before; it's just that it's mainly talked about in PP. Theatre is fun, isn't it?

Thanks for updating us, Meadow! Sounds like you had a great time despite the difficulties! So after everyone finished dropping out, how big was the cast?

(About Little Shop of Horrors: If you read the synopsis on Wikipedia [a great resource for storylines] or someplace, there are reasons that the casting is for 14+.)

My former school (I love being able to say that now!) had some 7th and 8th graders do it. The entire school saw it... Including the 11-year-ol 6th graders. Then again, the level of the things in it probably differ between versions.

The cast was...  *checks program* thirty one people.  And four crew, doing lighting and sound and spotlight and photography.  The curtain was pulled by the cast, and everyone was assigned to cirtain times to pull the curtain.  Toilet and I both pulled the curtain to open the dancing flower scene.  So all together, there were thirty five people working on the performances.  And Pam, who gave a speech to the audience, and then gave inspirational pep talks backstage during the shows.  The director and co-director and student director were all characters in the show; Mad hatter, Catterpillar and White Rabbit...

I have been in three other performances; Seussical the Musical, Aladdin and Peter Pan!  Alice in Wonderland was my fourth!  :D

Yesterday was teh last show!  Exactly 24 hours ago I was at the cast party, talking and being with people...  Eating pizza.  There were about five vegetarians in that show...  :D  And now my full costume is at my home for the first time!  I never noticed what it smelled like!

I miss everybuggy in Alice in Wonderland allready...

Ima: Yeah... Theatre is fun. I now regret (sort of, since I've been playing piano for a long time) choosing band instead of drama.

Brynne: I just read the synopisis. The plant must take a long time to make...

Meadow: Was AiW your favourite play so far? (you might have answered this, but I forgot) And for Aladdin, how did you guys rig the Magic Carpet?

My parents are watching Dexter Season ??? right now, and the speaker's on pretty loud so I can hear it. *feels weird* If Dexter's the narrator, he's creepily funny sometimes. (Dexter broke up with someone and his ex thinks it wasn't in his "best interest." OK, it's changing now, but whatever.)

Alice in Wonderland was my favourite play.  The people, my lines, the craziness of it.  it was very enjoyable.  Now I will miss everybody...  But it is fine, they are going to come back the this theater.  Except Toilet, he is moving to Oregon in about a fortnight...  :(

In Aladdin my sister and I just held the corners of the carpet and waved it, making it look like it was floating, if only we were invisible.  When Aladdin was flying on it, we would lay it on the ground and he would sit on it.  Not particularly amazing, but it worked.  :)
