Hello! Somehow I missed your Halloween post, BB, sorry about that! I hope you had a fun holiday. I just went trick-or-treating, nothing too special; and my orchestra had a costume-bowling fundraiser the day before too, which was pretty fun. I dressed up as Hel, the Norse goddess of the underworld. Nobody knew who I was xD Did you have a costume?
I feel the same about YA...a lot of the romance seems very forced or tropey, and is usually way over-the-top. I don't mind romance if it's heartfelt and well-developed but too often it's just cheesy.
As for orchestra, I had a very exciting week xD Every few years, my orchestra goes on tour and also performs with the local philharmonic to prepare. All the kids got a stand partner in the phil, which was really helpful since they gave us some tips and it's so much easier to play the right notes when the people around you know what they're doing xD
Also, the conductor of the phil is the coolest. She's really dynamic and expressive when she conducts, and just generally a very good leader. So the whole thing was really fun. And today and yesterday we got to perform with them in the concerts.
I remembered that orchestra is always kind of painful during the semester but then when we get to the concert it feels amazing. Especially because the organ symphony is so loud and there were twice as many people on stage so we made this amazing sound. It feels really great to play with so many people.
Anyway, I hope you get to do some solo work! I bet you would do a great job. I think it would be pretty hard but you seem really dedicated so I'm sure you could do it :)
I'm glad you enjoyed your concert, Lupine. I remember what you first said about the organ symphony. And did you ever watch the movie Babe? It has little bits of that symphony scattered throughout and adorable mice narrators.
To the admin-yes, my family did end up watching that movie! I think I had watched it a long time ago and it was really fun to watch it again, it was so cute. And I think it did make the symphony more fun! Overall playing the symphony was pretty cool, because it's so dramatic. I did end up liking it more in the end.
Thanks for letting me know, Lupine! I haven't seen Babe for years, but I can still hear those little mice in my head and picture the cat after the disaster inside the house! By coincidence, I watched it for the first time the very night before my orchestra was performing the organ symphony. I'd had no idea what music was in the movie and was astonished when I heard it!

I'm so sorry I didn't reply for so long. Lupine, your orchestra concert sounds amazing. It's so cool that you got to pair up with a philharmonic!
Mine was fine, I think. The Scheherzade went pretty well. Youth Symphony's concert was good. We were more together and everything, but I still wish we were playing something harder.
And haha dedicated :') I have not been practicing enough lately. I've averaged around one hour a day, probably because I am refining things on the Bach and the Accolay seems really easy and I want something harder. I'd be working on the hardest movement of the JC Bach Viola Concerto if my viola didn't desperately need new strings... one if them is starting to rust I think. I haven't changed them in a long time, but I didn't want to right before a concert. I tried to make a practice chart but I keep forgeting about it... oops. It probably doesn't help that I spent about two weeks practicing the same few parts of the Bach in ways that didn't really help before my teacher found some ways that actually do help. (I'm talking about the really fast runs. Plus I want to play it around dotted half note = 126 to 132 bpm, so that makes it harder. I'm determined to make it sound really good.)
I did have a costume! I was a random person from a world of mine. I got a lot of candy :D
Um, yeah. I've also been working on making presents a lot. I have two friends (both of whom are pen pals) so I'm putting a lot of work into each gift. For A, I'm doing a star theme because they sent me a bookmark with stars on it and golden writing. It's really pretty. I'm making some crochet and origami stars, and will be making a dishcloth/maybe hotpad with a star attatched if I can find cotton yarn (possibly out of star stitch, but I can't make it look right for some reason), and some star-shaped hard candy. And lots of home decorations and stuff because they just moved. And an embroidered bookmark that goes on the corner of the page, which is embroidered with a book surrounded by flowers. I like the color scheme I chose. Maybe I'll put a picture of it on here when I'm done. Although I might send that in the mail instead of putting it in the present box.
For B, I'm going with a hedgehog and bunny theme because they used to have a rescue hedgehog and now have a bunny. Also origami because they like origami, and decorations because last year they said that they wanted decoration. I am making a holly leaf dishcloth and possibly some others - I might try doing a coaster with color work. I haven't tried that before; I hope it works. They're also getting some star hard candy.
For both, and also to send to my grandparents, I'm going to be making a lot of cookies. I'm looking into how to ship them.
Okay, I think this is long enough. Bye for now!

Those presents sound so cool, Blackfooted Bobcat! I'd love to see a picture of them if you have one :D I really like the idea of a theme for each person.
My school was rude enough to go on break like two days before Christmas, so I didn't have as much time to work on presents this year as I usually do. The one present that I was very happy with was a sticker that I made for a friend (I figured out that you can print drawings onto vinyl sticker paper on a normal printer and then just cut them out, so that's what I made most people this year). I chose a bunch of her favorite books and illustrated their the spines for the sticker; I did spend way too much time on it though and that might be why I didn't have much time for everyone else xD but it was fun. I can attach a picture.
We've been getting a ton of snow this year--yesterday it snowed all day long, and it was a really wet and heavy snow so a bunch of huge branches have fallen out of trees all over the city. It's kind of exciting, because we haven't been getting a lot of snow in recent years.
Happy New Year!! I hope you have a great 2023. It's been so fun to talk about violin, writing, and life with you this year.
Your book sticker thing is cool! I saw your realistic portrait that you posted on the art thread, and it's so amazing I can't even. All the braids look so good, and there's so many of them! She looks so... peaceful? Gentle? I don't know anything about her and haven't actually read any of her poetry, so I don't know if it fits, though XD But yeah, amazing job.
I'll post more later, I just want to top this.
