Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Chatterboxer Bible Group!

Chatterboxer Bible Group!

~~~~~~
HELLO PEOPLE! I do believe this is the first time a thread has been made to talk about the Bible, so I don't know how it'll be taken. But, hopefully, people will post on it.
Here's a place where we can discuss some favorite Bible stories, bits of scripture and devotionals.
Feel free to post your favorite relevant songs and reply to people's posts.
Once a week on Sunday someone can post a favorite piece of the Bible as the "Verse of the Week". To avoid having too many people sharing the Verse of the Week, please name yourself "Verse of the Week" so that we may know if it's already been posted!
~~~~~~~~~

General Rules:

1. Be kind and courteous.

2. Please don't try to debate someone here.

3. Uh... that's it. If there is anything I missed, please feel free to point it out!

~~~~~~~~~
And now, the Verse of the Week, from Philipians 4:6.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
This sounds amazing. I had actually thought about making a thread for this too. I love that verse. I am not old enough for youth group at my church yet but the people in charge of that are thinking of changing that. (I am only a year too young and it used to be my age as the age that you could join) My dad (the pastor of my church) decided to meet again and we have been for the last 2 months. We meet outside with some people in cars while we have an am short range radio station which my dad preaches through. Have you been meeing in person? If not, have you been doing online church? At the beginning of quarantine my family watched 2 services each week. Sundays are a no technology day so I cannot be on the CB then. So maybe Mondays could be the verse of the week day or maybe we could just have a verse of the day.
Am I misremembering, or did this thread use to say something about how non-Christian people could post (polite) questions here, and you would happy to answer them? Because I do have a question, but I don't want to disrespect the intent of this thread if you'd rather I don't post it here.
We revised the initial comment since it was posted. You are right about what it used to say. But you are still very welcome to post questions. We will just be monitoring replies (and the questions) to be sure they are respectful and non judgmental. Ask away!
I'm free! Go ahead!
Also, is there a reason the Admin changed my greeting to 'Bible enthusiasts'??? I said 'Children of God', this is a Christian thread so I thought there wouldn't be a problem...
Yes. The editors decided the original posting sounded too much like a religious group. Chatterbox is threads and discussions for all.
@Admins, may I ask why you edited the initial post? I'm curious to know the reason because it used to be unedited when it showed up.
(I don't mean to sound rude or anything, I just would like it if you could shed some light on the reasons behind the edits. Thanks!)
Editors made the decision jointly today after discussion. We thought the original posting sounded too much like a religious group on Chatterbox. We edited it to sound more inclusive for all.
Dear Sammy,
We're sorry that you're feeling mad. We changed some parts of this thread as we saw fit to make it more open to anybody who's interested in the Bible.
Chatterbox is a place where we can welcome a certain amount of discussion and personal stories about faith and religion, but it's also simply not set up to be a place for religious groups. What we mean by "religious groups" is youth groups or similar organizations. We only have a couple admins, working one at a time. We can't provide the good moderation those groups need.
This sounds like such a good idea! I am not Christian, but I have some questions, if that's ok:
Do you know any main differences between other Abrahamic religions like Catholisism, Judiasm, Islam, etc.?
Have Christian rules and ideals changed overtime?
What are the main things people misunderstand about Christianity?
(If any of these questions are disrespectful, please delete them/tell me!) I'm really curious about learning about different religions, because my family is atheist.
@Fidelity,
It's not disrespectful at all!
There are many difference branches of Judiasm. Some of them include:
• Orthodox Judaism
• Reformed Judaism
• Messianic Judaism
Most forms of Judaism believe that the Messiah hasn't come yet.
All of the versions of Judaism have the Sabbath from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and they celebrate biblical feasts as well as other holidays.
I'm not going to pretend I know the difference between the many types of Judaism, so let me tell you about the Messianic.
I'm Messianic. The Messianic Jews believe in Jesus, but they don't call Him that. Jesus is a Greek name for Yeshua (the name He was born with) since Yeshua is a Jew.
They didn't change just His name, they changed every persons name in the Bible. Even God's name is Adonai! We believe that this was a mistake, since it takes everything Jewish away from Yeshua.
Anyway, we celebrate the Biblical feasts because we believe God never told us to stop.
We eat kosher because we believe God never told us to stop.
We light the Shabbat candles because we believe God never told us to stop.
We do everything we do, because there's not one section in the New or Old Testament that told us to stop.
Christianity has changed a lot. That's why we have all the different versions we have today!
The thing I believe people misunderstand... They think God and His miracles can be explained by basic science.
Not sure if these were the answers you were looking for but... here ya go!
In answer to your second question: Sort of, because, there are now many denominations within Christianity which interpret the Bible differently.(one of which is Catholisism) Personally, I am a Baptist which is a denominaton within the Protestants. (they are called that because they protested against the catholics) The denominations are the same religion just with variations and they all believe that the way in which they worship God is right.
I'm sorry but I'll have to do a little research (asking my dad) on the last one.
