Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

Hmm... is it a beginners theater class? Maybe they'll teach you even if it's not? But just FYI if you want to know:

Stage Right- your right (NOT the audience's!)

Stage Left- your left (NOT the audience's!)

Upstage- your back/the back half of the stage (bc stages used to be tilted back in the day so audiences on the ground level could see everything that was happening so to go to the back part of the stage you had to go uphill)

Downstage- your front/the front half of the stage (see story above, which helps me remember this but also just a fun story)

Center Stage- what it sounds like, the center of the stage

Cheating/Cheating Out- ALWAYS FACE THE AUDIENCE!! If you're holding a conversation with another actor, you want to make it look real but you want the audience to be able to see you also so you turn diagonal, as in half of you faces the person you're talking to, half faces the audience, unless the ppl in charge tell you otherwise

PROJECT- try to project/speak up so ppl in the very back can hear you (do you guys have mics?), I'm horrible at this but it's better if you do

The show must go on!- if it's opening night or whatever and you mess up, it's perfectly fine! Keep on going, maybe the audience didn't catch it or whatever (and if they didn't if you stop they will) but even if they did, it'd be even worse and throw the whole thing off course if you just stopped and apologized and don't you want to move on from the embarrassing moment anyways and it's probably embarrassing for the audience too and it might also be annoying for them cuz they want the show to go on and anyways everyone makes mistakes? No pressure oc though! I'm just saying, if you mess up, you mess up. Move on!

Smile!- try to look like you're having fun (unless told otherwise)! If you don't look like you're having fun/into the acting, the audience won't be as in to it either (imagine going to a show where everyone isn't smiling and they're all saying lines just very flatly and monotone and no one on stage is having fun... probably wouldn't be enjoyable/you'd fall asleep. But one where everyone's like YAYY and very into the roles and invested in the scenes and smiling would probably make you go YAY too! (My horrible explanation skills...))

Be quiet backstage!- whispers carry, and especially backstage. The audience can hear everything you're saying, each movement you make, and it may distract them from the show, plus you'll be disrespecting the actors on stage! Be quiet please!

Listen to the directors/ppl teaching you/running the class!- they know what to do and can help you, ask them if you have any questions (hopefully they'll be ok with it, or ask one of your more experienced peers if you're comfortable) or need clarification. I'm assuming you're putting on a show so you guys will probably run it through a bunch before actually doing the real thing, problems and mistakes will most likely be fixed up before they really matter so don't worry about them and just have fun! Enjoy the class!

Get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast before a show!- of course, you don't have to (I certainly didn't and did perfectly fine) but ppl recommend it! You probably understand why, don't want to be forgetting lines and bleary-eyed and sleepy/hungry while you're performing! I'll add one more thing though, go to the bathroom before the show! You don't want to be dancing in that way during the performance (just want to clarify I do not have any experience with this (and am glad I don't), just something to keep in mind)!

And idk why you would need this but for improv rules my stuffies explain it pretty well on the Stuffed Animal Stories on Inkwell (second part of my horrible improv) just in case. Best of luck on your theater classes and (don't actually you know what I mean) break a leg! :)

And I'm pretty sure you can sing bc that quote I put from you in the Sep MCU (I LOVE THAT QUOTE IT'S AWESOME JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU) and you're also prob at least a bit familiar with musicals but something that one of my musical theater teachers told this kid who's an amazing singer but very quiet (for the people in the back) was to work on her singing by singing in the bathroom cause the tiles bounce sound back to you or whatever I don't really understand how that helps with projecting (maybe you hear yourself louder so then you start singing louder??) but just fyi.

For dancing maybe just follow the instructors/ask for help if needed?

Hope this helps and have fun!

I love that title. It's awesome. There's nothing else to say. I'd totally read it if you do.

Anyways, came on here to say

I LOVE RED BULL COMMERCIALS!!! We saw one today it was very entertaining (as always).

Wait. ACKK I LITERALLY JUST REALIZED

What is red bull anyways? I DON'T KNOW!! Ig the commercials aren't that effective (just so entertaining) cuz I'm actually not certain. Is it a soda? Is it a beer? Alcohol? I just know that they give you wings (why do they give you wings again??)! :)
