Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

Uncanny Valley is weird.

It's how humans (most other animals do not get this) find things that appear human-like creepy, like dolls and mannequins.

So as, for example, a robot, becomes more and more realistic, humans have more empathy for it and like it more. But at a certain point of realism, the robot is suddenly very creepy and even repulsive. But then, as it gets even more realistic, and looks and sounds exactly like a human, suddenly we like it again. It's called Uncanny Valley because if you make a graph, it looks like a valley.

Some theories:

-There was a predator that preyed on humans by disguising itself as one.

-To help keep us away from dead bodies (to prevent disease).

-Our brains don't like the mismatch of part alive and part not. Human brains tend to not like things that don't usually belong together.

-As is quite well-known, humans find the unknown creepy. Think of the dark. Our brains may find the instinctive uncertainty of alive vs. not alive creepy.

However, this phenomenon is not fully understood! Weird and interesting.

"Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lazard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors." -Sheldon Cooper

XD It's really hard to get people to play with you though, because not a lot of people know the rules

today a kid in chorus kept using gay as an insult/in a negative way and my teacher actually spoke up about it!! she told him to stop, but not just like "hey, cut it out." she had a microphone and the whole class heard and she was like "do NOT use that word in a negative way. not only is it disrespectful, it also disregards an entire group of people" and she said some other stuff that i forgot but i'm just really happy someone finally did something about it :D too bad that teacher is leaving next year. we still have the other chorus teacher tho & he's really nice too

I'm actually not sure exactly what to make of how it happens at my school... like we're SUPER accepting and there's a lot of queer people at our school and it's sort of become like-- the cool thing to be at our school, y'know?  Like people who acted kind of homophobic at my old school are now like I'M SUPER GAY LOL PRIDEEEEE and YET, people still are like "you're gayyyyyyy hahahahahah funny joke" even people who identify as queer and I'm like-- okay whiplash hahaha what

Confetti says "areou."  REO Speedwagon?  I've listened to them exactly once

Or maybe not because I just got the CAPTCHA wrong and now it says "bnery."  Binary?  I was just thinking about Raine Whispers, Disney's first nonbinary character

1. Yes I've absolutely noticed that at my school being gay is the 'cool' thing to be, and I don't know how to feel about that, especially since I act stereotypically cishet, but better than homophobia I guess. I have heard the odd homophobic joke, but mostly I stay away from the kinds of people who say stuff like that so I don't really hear anything.

2. Yessss Raine Whispers! I love them so much.

Yeah, it feels super weird that it's like a trend... it's undoubtedly better than homophobia, but it also makes that kind of stuff feel really superficial to me, like it's all just one big joke.

I was JUST watching the owl house and raine was being SMART and AMAZING as ever

(seriously, why did it take so long for disney to have a nonbinary character though:/)

Huh. I would actually argue that making it a trend at least really supports anti-LGBTQIA+ness, because I've seen people online be like "I'm not going to use their name/pronouns/accept that they're not straight/etc. because it's just a trend!". Nonetheless, that must be hard to deal with. Do people literally change their pronouns just for a trend or stuff, even though they don't actually care? Or does it work some way else? I'm just curious.
