Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Cooks and chefs

Cooks and chefs and eaters of food, come one come all!

If there are any of you out there at least.

Well, assuming that there are, what kind of dishes do you like to cook? Care to share any recipies? Admins and CBers, what are your favorite foods to eat?

And does anyone out here have an obsessive love for fried rice? No?

Well, ok, then, let the food talk begin!

Ooooh . . . spaghetti with meat sauce, turkey with stuffing, cran-orange pecan pie. I also like to eat good, ripe fresh fruit, like the delicious Illinois, Wisconsin, and Colorado peaches we've had here recently. Plus fresh-baked bread still warm from the oven.

I enjoy baking, though I don’t get to do it as often as I like. I love baking cakes (though I’m terrible at decorating them), and I made my own birthday cake this year :D. I often beg to make cake for special occasions and everyone’s birthdays (because I usually don’t have an excuse otherwise). I also love making miniature cakes and miniature pies. By myself I’ve also made pies, cookies, corn bread (that sounds good rn), popovers, muffins, shortbread, pizza, pear galette (yum!), brownies, and biscuits. I LOVE food. Especially desserts. I like to make desserts. Thus ends my paragraph about food. One of the few things I can talk on and on about. As you can tell, my mom doesn’t do much of the baking anymore.

Here’s a really easy and delicious no-bake recipe that’s easily adaptable for preferences or allergies:

No-bake energy cookie balls

Ingredients:

1 cup oatmeal

1/2 cup flax meal

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup coconut flakes (optional; my own addition ;))

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/3 cup honey

1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients together until it makes a dry-ish dough. Form tightly into 1 inch balls and refrigerate.

These are really tasty and actually really healthy, and you can substitute or add ingredients. For instance, you could substitute raisins or M&Ms for the chocolate chips.

I talk too much. I’ll stop now.

I'll just put a noodles recipie I made up here because why not.

- Boil pretty much any sort of noodle you like in any kind of broth. I use chuka soba because that's all we really have lying around here haha

- In a large, deep pan or whatever else you have lying around, put in soy sauce, honey, and some broth (to taste) and cook bits of shredded chicken, broccoli, diced carrots, and scallions.

-Add the noodle and swish it around until it turns sort of reddish brown and the sauce is all soaked up

-Eat it all before someone finds out you made it if you don't like sharing. If you do, then share it.
