HAPPINESS THREAD

HAPPINESS THREAD

So... We really need one of these, don't we? As Leafpool pointed out on her own thread, it's the holiday season currently, and we find ourselves in the midst of a war. That's okay, we all have our own opinions, and I knew such a topic that the war is on would come up at some point for us CBers. It's simply inevitable. BUT that is why we must all take a deep breath and put our eyes on a happier thought. So that is why I made you guys this Happiness Thread.

It's simple, just post pics or stories, comments, memories, anything you wish that has made you happy, or that you believe will make others happy. Let's keep this thread going for all the CBers in the future, too!

Remember:

Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light." ~ Albus Dumbledore, The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Also as a note, happy holidays to all you CBers and Admins! I hope you all have had a wonderful 2016 year, and many more brilliant years to come.

Happiness and happy holidays to you too, Ashlee! ~Admins

@Admins,

When I tried to go to page two of this thread, it was smoothwalled because of content with weapons...

Why?

Please fix this!

Oh, I've heard that pun! My brother likes telling the joke while playing a flat minor triads on the piano for dramatic effect.

Hahaha that's great. My friend and I do puns and jokes all the time at school, but I've never heard that one before. Laughing

Something wonderful just happened to me.

After I made that post with the Lin-Manuel sonnet, and reading Abi's post, I felt so connected, and happy, and the strong urge to listen to Seasons of Love. I was home alone, so I searched it up on YouTube, and turned the speaker to full volume--it could be heard from anywhere in the house.

I started singing along to it, and I felt so powerful and full of love and hopeful and wonderful, I burst into tears of joy. That has never in my life happened to me. But there I was, singing my heart out, sobbing every few lines. I don't feel quite as empowered as that moment, but I full of joy and love.

"Seasons of Love" is from the Broadway musical RENT by the way, one of the most famous musicals ever, and a definite turning point in musical theater. *robotic voice* For more theater kid ranting about this musical, see the Musical Theater Chat thread in Down to Earth.

Sounds like it was a great moment, Owlgirl! See, I do that sometimes too, with other music. I'll turn up the speakers all the way and (attempt) to sing. It's always a great moment then.

Here are some of my own:

- My best friend and I are known to create this awesome vocabulary thing where almost every day we come up with new words. Like "Nenja" is a step above "Ninja" and we use that to describe an action or person that is really, really, really awesome. Or how "Francy" is a step above "Fancy". It came to the point where in our tiny school of 120 kids (Pre-K-12th) even all the 7th graders and even a teacher started using the word Nenja. Best. Moment. Ever.

- Earlier this year, it was my first time using an airsoft gun, and me and some other friends were at my friend's house (the nenja friend I mentioned above) and I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to use it. So we ended up creating a rule that I could "shoot" whoever, but the boys (because all my friends there were boys) could not shoot me, since my gun wasn't working. So I ended up air shooting, and teaming up with someone else to do an ambush. That was an epic day too

- We also have these random moments at school where my two best friends, who are both really good bakers decide to have a bake off. They bring a ton of amazing cakes, brownies, cookies, etc. for us all to test and judge. Then sometimes my other friend and a teacher will join in and bring even more stuff. This happens like once a week so... yeah, we get a lot of AMAZING desserts from them.

- BEST PART HERE. Sorry for caps, but this was great. So a few months ago, me, my best friend, and a few other classmates/friends were eating outside during one of the last warmer days. One of my classmates who I wasn't really friends with, loves parkour. So my best friend was messing around and was like, "I bet you can't jump over Ashlee's head, her tray, and the table at once" and the parkour kid literally took him serious and tried doing it. I had NO CLUE what was going on, so I had just the right time to move my head to the side as he jumps over. His foot ended up hitting the corner of my tray and spilling the remainder of my food everywhere, but he actually made it over. We just sat there laughing, and that's the day the parkour classmate became one of my closest friends. That was a great memory, and a great day, but we agreed to NEVER do that again.

My friends are just epic... so many memories with them.

I'm using Abi's idea. (Is that okay?)

Things I Love

~I love people that smell good. Good smells in general- clean linen, clementines, vanilla, cinnamon, fresh paint, gasoline, flowers after a rain, mint, the ocean. Good food, and the city, and the forest. Musty copper pennies, and this one type of bush that I don't know the name of because it gives me so many memories of my childhood (they were planted in front of my old babysitter's house, and my mom's classroom, so...) Lavender, magazine pages, crisp autumn air- I could go on for hours.

~I love wearing skinny jeans right after they're washed because they fit so much better than a few days later when you stretch them out

~I love having short hair (and good hair days)

~I love my mom's collection of blue wine bottles, and my dad's painted orange office with the lava lamp on his desk. I love the sound of my mom's keys because nobody else's sound the same for some reason, and the jangling of my dad's sandals that he wears around the house all the time.

~I love taking hot showers on really cold days, when it frosts for the first time and the grass is that beautiful pale green color. I love snowflakes caught in hair and on eyelashes. I love almost losing my balance on ice but catching myself and laughing about it. I love 'skating' down the sidewalk with my sister. I love icicles.  I love eerily windless days, and days when it seems like a hurricane is going on outside. I love winter.

~I love not being able to sleep on Christmas Eve. I love putting up the lights and the tree while my mom plays that Christmas song about the sombero that makes her crack up everytime, and singing along to bad renditions of carols in the car while my dad silently judges my sister and me. I love finding the perfect gift for someone and almost not being able to wait until they open it. I love driving to see Christmas lights, especially those projector ones that seem to dance. I love making Christmas cookies. I love lighting our Advent wreath, and getting fancy for mass on Christmas day. I love the holidays.

~I love writing with ink pens. I love shopping for art supplies and notebooks. I love it when your art turns out like you want it too. I love aesthetically pleasing sketchbooks. Looking at art stuff is one of my favorite things in the world, honestly.

~I love ways of showing affection through touching. Hugs, hand holding... they make me so happy.

~I love it when my creative juices are flowing, and when I come up with an idea for a story. I love rereading my old writing, and cringing so hard but being proud of how far I've come. I love finishing a project.

~I love fuzzy socks and flannel pajama pants. I love big hoodies and sweater paws. Comfy clothes are the best!

~I love the clack sound the keys on a typewriter make. I love the sound at the beginning of Tokyo Narita by Halsey. I love the sound of airplanes taking off. I love the sound of cars rushing down the highway, and mourning doves's calls, and the slight hum of electricity that is everywhere. I love the sound KitKats make in commercials, and violins, and pianos, and every other instrument in the world. I love being able to feel the bass in a song. I love the sound of a crackling fire, and the hiss of a match when you light it. I love the sound of turning pages. I love the screech of metal on metal, the plink of rain on a tin roof, the ticking of the second hand on the clock, and static for some reason. I love clicking pens. I love the hum of a sewing machine, the thump of a basketball being dribbled down the court, and the sound of puppy dog yips and big dog barks. I love popping bubble wrap. I love the sound buzz saws make. (I could go one for hours... again)

~I love playing monopoly. And chess. And finding stupid metaphors for myself in board game pieces (I'm the dice because I have a lot of sides to me and you never know what you're going to get)

~I love rainstorms

~I love playing fun games of basketball with people in my class after school. I love hanging with people I don't usually hang with, I love people who can be themselves. I love people I csan be myself around,

~I love going to tiny, unknown, hole in the wall stores. I love going shopping with fun people.

~I love reading something so cute/amazing/beautiful that I just have to stop for a moment and close my eyes, and smile, and sigh. I love books, movies, shows, and songs that make me emotional.

~I love the nighttime. I love neon lights and catching fireflies and watching fireworks and wearing glowsticks.

~I love graffiti on trains.

~I love colorful things. I love pastel colors, and bright colors, and dark colors, and everything in between.

~I love old things. I love brick buildings with ivy snaking up the walls, and vintage floral wallpaper, and 30s movies, and polaroids. I love other time periods.

~I love trick-or-treating with my crazy friends and little sis. I love getting dressed up, and getting sick on chocolate and skittles. I love everything about Halloween.

~I love big things like hills and mountains and towers.

~I love golden sun days where you can see dust mites through the window.

~I love sweet-smelling candles, and candle stores.

~I love acting like a little kid. Playing foursquare at recess, doing the monkey bars, swinging, playing stupid games...

~I love discovering new songs. I love good music.

Sorry for the long post, Admins. (I actually have an entire 4 page list, front and back, of things that I love) So I might post more later.

GUYS GUESS WHAT! I GOT TWO NEW SKILLS ON FLOOR YESTERDAY!!!!! I'M SO HAPPY AND SO PROUD OF MYSELF!

I did a roundoff backhandspring back layout  on floor for the first time ever! I was so suprised when my coach told me to try it. I've only ever tried on tumble track. But at practice we were tumbling on floor and I had just done a really high roundoff backhandspring backtuck, and Coach Juan just said really casually: "Ok, 'Burr, do a back layout this time!" ('Burr isn't my real name, obviously!) I was really startled, but I trust my coaches completely. If they say I can do something, then I can. Neither of them would ever ask me to do something if they weren't POSITIVE I could do it. If they tell me to, I'll do it.

Another thing I've noticed, is that things are so much easier if I just GO for it. If I don't waste time worrying about the skill, overthinking it, then I'll do it. I don't let thoughts get in the way. I just say: 'Ok, you got this. Go for it. C'mon now, you got it.' Then I do it.

And it works! This time I got my back layout first try! I don't know how good it was... but I went for it. And I did it again. The third time, I did it without my coach on the floor with me.

Then, because I was SUPER pumped about getting my skill, I decided to try another new skill. My front handspring front tuck!

So I'm so HAPPY about this! YAY!

ALSO, I got a skill on bars a few weeks ago: my Giant! It's when I swing around the high bar with a mostly straight body. Like in the Princess Bride! When Westly and Inigo Montoya are sword fighting, and Westly swings around the rope. I CAN DO THAT NOW!

Great idea! Hmmm... (45 minutes later after Googling different kinds of inspirational quotes):

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

-Unknown

I hope that this is an okay quote, I spent 45 minutes searching for a good one! Happy holidays!

*sobs under quivering pile of fuzzy blankets*

I'm still upset about the... thingy... so I'm going to make another happy list to try to cheer myself up.

Happy Things

- Owl City songs. Every. Single. One. "Don't remind me— I'm a chickadee in love with the sky."

- Lying on the living room floor with my face right under the Christmas tree so I can barely see through the branches to the sky and the lights swim like tiny fireflies and it's hard to believe I'm not on a different planet.

- Summer in Malibu, blue, cloudless skies and shimmering, white-capped waves and soft, powdery sand and hot, stuffed, sweet-spicy omusubi from the tiny vendor perched on the edge of the pier

- Ice cream in December

- Tackle hugs that send me sprawling into cold wet grass

- Not being able to breathe for laughing
