Science cannot "prove" anything. Therefore, the scientists have not "proved" that Global Warming is a threat. Global Warming is not caused at all by humans. Seriously, a few years ago, we were worried about global cooling? What's with the change?

Oh my gosh! Is there another Willa posting on this site????!!! I was just scrolling randomly through the threads and saw my name on this one! Wow! I don't think I've ever met another Willa around my age in my life! Actually, when I saw your post I thought I had written it because I believe  global warming should be stopped, too. So, do you like having my--our--name? I think it is a really awesome name.

No, this is a threat.  And "therefore" many of the plants and animals will go extinct from pollution and over hunting and fishing caused by man.  Did I mention over population by man?  We can make a difference but first we need to understand our impact.

Firstly, anyone who STILL doesn't think climate change is a problem needs to do some more research.  Secondly, just because something is written in the Bible doesn't mean it's right!!!  Far from it!  Most of the things in the Bible don't make any scientific sense.  And why can't the Bible be wrong??? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW!!!

Global warming is a reality, but it is not man-made, it is a natural ocurance. Look at medieval England: you could grow grapes there, now it is impossible to grow grapes there. A Viking probably noticed that the Arctic was losing ice, but since the things they thought worth telling were battles and feats and things like that, they did not record the boring parts of their journeys. I would not either.

1. I have done research. I do not think global warming is truly happening. I think that pollution IS an issue, but the government should NOT try to scare people into submission with this "we're all going to die because we're destroying the planet's climate" tripe.

2. Whether or not the Bible is true is a matter of personal belief. I believe it. You don't. Simple as that.

3. My belief that the Bible is true has no effect on my opinions. I'm not really entirely sure what the Bible has to do with "global warming" at all...

4. Quote time! These are mostly, er, from fictional materials (written by a scientist, though) but I think they sum up my view of the matter quite well, and fiction, you know, is just a subtler way to say things.

"...the rise in the use of the term crisis can be located with some precision in the autumn of 1989. And it seemed suspicious that it should coincide so closely with the fall of the Berlin Wall... I am leading to the notion of social control... to the requirement of every sovereign state to exert control over the behavior of its citizens, to keep them orderly and reasonably docile... And of course we know that social control is best managed through fear... For fifty years, Western nations had maintained their citizens in a state of perpetual fear. Fear of the other side. Fear of nuclear war. The Communist menace. The Iron Curtain. The Evil Empire. And within the Communist countries, the same in reverse. Fear of us. Then, suddenly, in the fall of 1989, it was all finished. Gone, vanished. Over. The fall of the Berlin Wall created a vacuum of fear... Something had to fill it... environmental crises took the place of the Cold War... There is always a cause for fear. The cause may change over time, but the fear is always with us. Before terrorism we feared the toxic environment. Before that we had the Communist menace... the specific cause of our fear may change, we are never without the fear itself. Fear pervades society in all its aspects. Perpetually... Industrialized nations provide their citizens with unprecedented safety, health, and comfort. Average life spans increased fifty percent in the last century. Yet modern people live in abject fear... of strangers, of disease, of crime, of the environment that surrounds them... germs, chemicals, additives, pollutants. They are timid nervous, fretful, and depressed. And even more amazingly, they are convinced that the environment of the entire planet is being destroyed around them..." (State of Fear, 2004)

"There are many reasons to shift away from fossil fuels, and we will do so in the next century without legislation, financial incentives, carbon-conservation programs, or the interminable yammering of fearmongers. So far as I know, nobody had to ban horse transport in the early twentieth century." (Michael Crichton, 2004)

"You egomaniacal idiot... You think you can destroy the planet? My, what intoxicating power you must have... You can't destroy the planet. You can't even come close... The planet is not in jeopardy. We are in jeopardy. We haven't got the power to destroy the earth- or to save it. But we might have the power to save ourselves." (Jurassic Park, 1990)

Oh, come on!!  ONE MORE POST!!!!

According to scientists, the planet is currently supposed to be heading into an ice age.  It is now thought that Global Warming (it really shouldn't be called that) will steer us out of it.  I agree that climate change in itself is, yes, a natural occurance.  HOWEVER, the planet's climate is supposed to dip into ice ages and hot periods subtly and periodically, not at such an alarming rate as it is now.

I am ready to argue till I drop about this.

Google "sunspots global warming".

Oh yes, and also google "global temperatures" and "global temperature in past 10 years" and "carbon dioxide effects on global temperature"

NASA sites are good. Don't click Wiki links, it's unreliable.

And for goodness sake, don't go to a .gov site because

POLITICIZED SCIENCE IS VERY, VERY BAD!!!!

If you don't believe me, google "eugenics america" and "eugenics", and see what happens when the government sticks its ugly mug into science. Ever wonder where Hitler got his ideas from? Hm?

Like I said in my previous post, "global warming" is a SCARE TACTIC that the government is using to RESTRICT and CONTROL its citizens.

And I know you probably won't do this but also for good measure google "global warming hoax"

Oh, and if you want an interesting and informative take on global warming, read Michael Crichton's book State of Fear. It's fiction, and it's about an ecoterrorist group conspiring with a big pro-environmental group to show people of the looming "catastrophe" of short-term climate change caused by global warming (e.g, tsunamis, new diseases, etc.). Meanwhile a concerned and well-written though Mary-Sue-ish scientist and two lawyers face the dangers of everything from ruthless ecoterrorist conspirators who will stop at nothing (even murder) to cannibals to time zone change (urk) to angry employers to annoying rich "environmentalist" types as they try to stop the conspirators from achieving their ends and killing loads of innocent people. It addresses all sorts of things - false or distorted information, hypocrisy (e.g. Al Gore being interviewed about CO2 emissions while sitting in his RUNNING PRIVATE JET), ecoterrorism, politicized science. And it has graphs from reliable sites, an extensive bibliography, and on top of that it's well written and suspenseful. Though a tad bit hard to get into.

All right!!  All right!!  Enough!!

What about National Geographic?  I collect lots of information from there.
Okay.  So why is the climate suddenly heating up at an unimaginable rate, then?  "Natural causes"?  I don't think so.  In all of earth's history, this has never happened before.  At smaller scales, yes, that's "natural."
QUESTIONS:
1.  Why is the climate suddenly heating up?
2.  Why is there a hole in the ozone layer?
3.  Even if you don't think Climate Change is a problem *cough cough*, don't you think humans should reduce their impact?

No, I just read a lot and when I need quotes I am good at suddenly remembering that there's a relevant one in such-and-such a chapter.

I agree. there is no such thing as 'global warming'. What there is, is climate change. Cold places will get colder, and hot places will get hooter, until earth is an uninhabitable desert, and it is all our fault. Ever since people have started burning coal, the tempratures have gone way up or down! there is so much evidence for climate change!

*in reply to BellaTrix's last comment*

You seem misinformed. Let me fill you in.

First. Nat Geo. Look, I love National Geographic, but it's one source. Anything you read is going to be biased one way or another, no matter which way you look at it. And Nat Geo sadly jumped right on the bandwagon with global warming.

Next: climate heating up dramatically (we'll get to ozone in a moment). Well... No. There has, in fact, been a global cooling trend since 1998. I am NOT MAKING THIS UP. It was announced by top UN scientists.

First take a look at the anecdotal evidence: China recently had its coldest winter in years. Record amounts of snow across Northeastern America. Record levels of Antarctic ice. Record cold in places as far apart as Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Austrailia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile, and more. It's not just anecdotal evidence.

And now for the hole in the ozone layer:

First...  There's a hole because ozone is being destroyed by industrial chemicals such as  refrigerants, halons, and methyl bromide. Of course, the most well-known of these chemicals is CFC. Chlorofluorocarbons, yes? The argument goes that less heat escapes the troposphere, causing the stratosphere to cool down, causing the ozone to be further depleted. Yes? Yes.

BUT. If you believe TOP UN SCIENTISTS, THERE HAS BEEN NO GLOBAL WARMING SINCE 1998. You know what that means? That means the troposphere hasn't been heating up, that means the stratosphere hasn't been getting colder.

Now. The "experts" themselves... You know they were saying that all sea life would be extinct by 1979, right? That England would be underwater by 2000? And so on... Missed the mark a bit, eh?

I also believe I already made my position on the matter of pollution quite clear... Here... I'll quote myself for you. "I think that pollution IS an issue, but the government should NOT try to scare people into submission with this "we're all going to die because we're destroying the planet's climate" tripe."  That was right at the top of my post, in case you were wondering.

I, too, am ready to argue until I drop.
