Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Halloween.&n
Halloween.
Yes, I know. "Too early," you're thinking. But I want time to make/find the right costumes, so I'm starting a month before.
So I have 2 things to say. The first one is, do you celebrate it, and if you do, what are you planning to be this year?
The second is, can you help me choose what to be? Because I have NO IDEA. Just post good things you think I could be that I could make up of parts from home or get things at thrift stores. Here are some things I thought I could be (with why not after.):
A gypsy-I was this 2 years ago.
A pirate-Um... I might be this, but my little sister was this last year, and I'm not really excited about it.
The morton salt girl-If I put down the salt and umbrella, I'd just be a girl with a yellow dress on
Thank you guys so much if you post some ideas!

Hi Butterfly! I have no idea what I'm going to be this year, and I don't really know what to recommend because I don't really know what kids of things you like. I was an owl last year and it was awesome! My brother and I hadn't found anything we liked in the stores or mags, so we made home made costumes with our mom. It was really fun! My brother was a s'more. It was pretty funny.

Well, I can tell you some of my costumes if you're interested. Unfortunately I don't know you very well...
Last year I was Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead. That was pretty awesome, and may I say I looked AMAZING. We spray painted a jackal head, used a shirt I'd gotten from the British Museum... it was probably one of my best costumes.
Another year I was a dementor. My brother was a ghost that year, and both our faces were covered with some pretty nifty fabric. One guy asked if we were a black and white cookie. :)
And I was Hermione.
And, when I was much smaller, a princess and a rabbit.
And this year I'm going to be Cerberus, from the Greek myths! He's a three-headed dog that guards the Underworld. Keeps the dead from going back out.
If you're interested in myths at all, you could try Medusa. My dad suggested it, but I like Cerberus better.

I want to be flame princess from Adventure Time but it's super complicated.

I'm being Mabel from Gravity Falls!

Me and my friends are doing a group costume, but we still don't know what to do! Anyone have any ideas?
(September 23, 2015 - 7:30 pm)
A group of girls at my school are being Marvel superheroes\villans! My friend Emma's Catwoman,Sophie is Batgirl, etc. How many of you are there? A fun three person group costume is the Three Blind Mice! (Tails, trench coats, sunglasses, whiskers, etc.)

I'm going to be Betsy, from Betsy-Tacy. You could be a book character!
(September 23, 2015 - 8:18 pm)
Well, if you like making stuff, here are some of the things I've done. I've been Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, yes the book and not the character, by getting a long, flat book and printing out the cover art and gluing it on. It was actually really fun but kind of hard to make.
A more creative costume might be earth, you can get a blue dress and cut out felt continents and clouds.
You could always be red riding hood or elsa, red riding hood you basically just need a cape and a dress, and elsa you can get a blue dress, braid your hair, and maybe get some nice tulle as a train/cape.
And then there are always the classic costumes: you can have an orange t-shirt and green beret to be a pumpkin; striped knee-highs, a dress, and a hat to be a witch.

We're christian, so my mom says we aren't allowed to go trick-or-treating. I really don't see the harm in walking around the neighborhood getting candy.
Anyways, about the costume sugestions, our church holds this thing every year and we dress up for it, and in recent years i've been a candy corn, princess leia, an explorer, and i've been a cat at least twice.

I was thinking I would be little red riding hood.
Hair in two braids/in a french braid. Red cape, white dress/white sleeveless t shirt tucked into a red skirt with a corset thingy, black tights (possibley). Then for shoes I would either have more old fashioned shoes, like mary janes, or "riding shoes" like boots. I would also get a really nice big basket and then have that be holding my candy.

I've always wanted to be a book.
Or what if you were a pirate ship!

Hey Butterfly! I LOVE HALLOWEEN! It's my favorite holiday! So yes, I celebrate it! I deck out my house best I can with Halloween lights and decorations. I put up fall decorations inside, like fall colored flowers and wreaths. I also watch tons of Halloween specials. And yeah, I've already started!
My costume this year is going to be my own rendition of Peter Pan. Sort of a mix up of classic looks people know him by, as well as my own take of him in the novels I'm writing. I'm seriously excited! I always plan my costumes at least six months in advance cause I usually make 'em myself, and it takes awhile to get all the pieces, so I don't blame you for startin' early.
My first resort ideas are always literary characters. For instance, last year I was Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief. Year before that I was Annabeth Chase. So you could probably look to a lot of your favorite characters and throw something together relatively easily. Anything, from a fantasy novel to Nancy Drew to an American Girl.
Combing aspects of different mythological figures is really cool too. And of course, ultimate fallback to me is a fairy. You throw some random, sort of fantasy looking pieces together, theme it some aspect of nature, get five dollar pair of wings and spray paint them, streak your hair, and boom you got a pretty awesome fairy look that's unique.
I look forward to hearing what you decide to go as!

Yes, I celebrate Halloween. I am being a steampunk bandit.
(September 25, 2015 - 4:51 pm)
I love Halloween!!!
Here are some of my costumes:
I've been a witch numerous times,
Once I was a fairy when I was, what, 3?
I've been Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz,
A pheonix,
Medusa,
and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.
This year, I plan on being a candy monster.
P.S. Cardinal said "gbee". So you want to be a bee for Halloween? Cool!
