Religion discussion

So, there's a lot of us on CB, and we come from a wide variety of backgrounds. All across the US or even the world! Some of us are religious, and some aren't. Some are Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, or Hindu... the list goes on and on. So, we can just discuss religion here! For some of us, it's a big part of our world -- for others, not as much. But... you can share if you want!

I personally am Catholic, which as Savvy pointed out is not the same as Christian. I do believe in Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit. I go to Church, I pray.

I believe in evolution. I believe that fantasy is not wrong or witchcraft or pagan -- it's just a story, it has values that any religion can teach. I believe that different religions can coexist, that if someone is agnostic (unsure, will not believe without proof) or atheist (firmly believes there is no God) or any other religion, that's their choice, they shouldn't be judged for it. I don't try to convert my friends. I share the stories of the Bible with them, but only as stories. I don't try to make them Catholic or Christian.

So, that's me... how about you? If you don't feel comfortable discussing, that's your choice and that's okay!

I've always been stuck between believing and not, my Mom and brother do, but my dad doesn't. I was in one of my philisophicle moods the other day, and I was thinking of how the world was mostly energy, and I was wondering how things were individual and we have minds if we are energy. If who we are is mostly what we have experienced and learned. Then I thought, what is the point of making an amazing discovery in philosophy like what happens after death, why would we need that knowledge during life? Then I realized that was what believing in God was about, to know what happens after death and to go to the maker of this energy. Because sometimes you have to believe in something for it to happen, that's why you must have this knowledge. Just my theory as of this moment.

I am a rather unsteriotypical Christian. I don't see God through the Bible or how others see him. To me, he is this force greater than all storybook deities. All of my life I have had a huge imagination beyond that of anyone else I've met, which I believe makes me a bit more tolerant of fantasy.

When I think of God I think of Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia. (Yes I see God as a Lion, don't judge.)

I also think some religions worship God by another name; they never call him God, but they praise the same Great One.

I don't believe in Evolution.

One of the reasons I'm not a very normal Christian is: I believe in a lot of fantastical stuff, like wishes, luck, and ghosts. Also, I think there may be alternate universes and or slightly magical beings. We all can believe what we believe, and I can believe in God and "magic" .

I am a Catholic. (Small note: I can't help but be upset when someone says Catholics aren't Christian. Christian means follower of Christ, and Catholics follow Christ; so logically we are Christian, right?) I am not sure how I feel about macroevolution (I want to learn more about it before I form an opinion), but I believe that God could have allowed other creatures to evolve into humans and THEN given them souls and called them Adam and Eve.

I respect, enjoy, and love all of you regardless of your religion. Still, I think missionary work is a good thing. God gave humans free will, and so if I TEACH and ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT (NOT impose) my religion, people can choose to believe or not. The reason I want to teach and answer questions is to share the indescribable happiness that I find in Jesus.

If you are wondering about any aspect of Catholicism, feel free to ask!

In Fondness,

Choca

I don't think anyone has said that Catholics aren't Christian. Catholics belong to one of many different Christian denominations.

Admin (if this is still the same Admin), no one has said that on here. I just meant to say that it had been said elsewhere. And Catholics actually view themselves as the 'original pre-denominational Church'. (Got that bit in quotation marks from Wikipedia.)

Oh, I've never heard anyone anywhere say that Catholics aren't Christians. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I am a reformed Jew.  I go to synogague sometimes and I celebrate both Christian and Jewish holidays.  I am an atheist and I believe in evolution very strongly.  I like holidays and praying and stuff like that, but I don't believe in a lot of it, and I think how big a deal religion is is bad.  So many people have been hurt or killed because of it, and it shouldn't be like that ever.  I know that people do a lot of good things because of religion, but why can't they just do good things because they are good.  I don't mean to offend anyone, your beliefs are your beliefs and you have the right to think what you want.

And we respect your beliefs, Echo.
