Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Letters to Future

Letters to Future Chatterboxers!

Here you can write letters to the CBers of the future. Maybe, four years from now, a noble pioneering CBer will look through the back pages and find it, maybe even top it, so it can be read by Chatterbox: the Next Generation!

Dear Future Chatterboxer,

This generation is fun. Alter Egos reign supreme, as so random RPs and kind Chatterboxers. I wonder, what will RPs be like when a future CBer like yourself reads this? Will there still be CAPTCHA pets and Alter Egos? But I know one thing is for sure. There will always be kind CBers out there, like CayketheCook of our day. Like St. Owl of our day. The admins will stay responsible and unless the seeds of corruption make it in and take root, which I think is unlikely in such a wonderful place such as this, the rare insensitive comment will quickly be quelled. Keep looking through the back pages. Be curious. Read old RPs, and old discussions. Resurrect threads. Use interesting terminology. And stay considerate. I know the CB will change. But I think that the kindness will stay. Here, I was accepted. Hopefully, as will you be.

Sincerely,

A past Chatterboxer,

Somebody

this is crazy awesome! Thank you Poinsettia and pangolin for topping this :) now to proceed with my own Letter to the Future~

[how to begin?] hi, I'm Hex. I'm in my middle teens right now... I've been on the CB for just over two years, I think. Seeing the previous posts on this thread is such a weird feeling because I recognize some of the names—CB reunion and exploring the back threads, mostly. Maybe in a few years someone'll be reading this and feel the same about me :0 or maybe y'all currently on the CB with me will be reading this and be like "wow Hex's letter is weird" XD [hi, dear reader and fellow CBer. How are you?]

I don't have any AEs—although I've had quite a few in the past that never lasted more than a few days/weeks. I'm hereby rechristening my CAPTCHA, now in a dragon form, (previously named Nox) as 'Chrysophylax' after a character from Farmer Giles of Ham, an extremely obscure Tolkien story. [the sheer number of commas in that sentence is ridiculous, I'm sorry]. CAPTCHAs are now five letters, but in 2015 they were four and I wonder how long they'll be whenever you read this.

I'm a Harry Potter nerd and an aspiring Tolkien fan—I feel like I can't quite call myself a Tolkien nerd until I've read the Silm, but I'm working on that. My Favorite Books Of All Time off the Top of my Head are To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis and The Rook by Daniel O'Malley. I love sci-fi and fantasy of all kinds, but usually adult/maybe YA.

I love the CB because everyone is so open to new ideas and identities and respectfully shares their arguments and opinions and amazing writing. I hope that's still the same—or even better—whenever you read this. My advice to any future CBers reading this [or current ones, I suppose]: be awesome supportive people and join many ski lodges!

Huh, wow! It's really cool reading this. Everthing seems pretty much the same- only no ski lodges? I don't think? And CAPTCHA's only had 4 letters instead of 5! *GASP* they've eVoLvEd I may come back later, we'll see. If I end up not, then HI future CBers, I'm Hawkstar. Okay, I actually want to come back now lol

It’s so cool to read this thread! It’s a piece of the past. I can’t believe that some of these CBers are certified adults now. Some of the oldest might be 20 to 23 years old now.

To Past CBers: We still have AEs and CAPTCHAS, but now the CAPTCHAS are five letters long.

*finally gets around to replying to all the CBers of the Past who have written letters to us*

@Savvy, I think by now you would be 18???? And we still have computers! Hurray! And I've listened to Taylor Swift; she's still just as popular as she used to be, if not more. I don't like a lot of her music, tbh, but some other CBers told me about her more country-sounding songs and I do like some of those (I am absolutely obsessed with "Red" :) ) A unicorn?? what's that?? Just kidding, I do know what a unicorn is. And yep, everyone here is still reading and writing up a storm!

@St.Owl, I think I "saw" you in the last Valentine's Day reunion... anyway, I play the piano too! Although I should really play it more often. Fortunately, there have been no more wars, that I know of. There was an argument over ski lodges, but it was more of a debate that ended in some positive changes, not a fight.

@Novelist, luckily the website has stayed exactly the same! Personally, I love how pretty and simple and easy-to-use it is. BUT CAPTCHAS now utter five-letter grunts! Idk, maybe a few years into the future they'll be having six letters? :0

@Oregano, AEs actually got married? How has that not endured? We really need to bring that back, people. I can just imagine the chaos of an AE wedding. And alas, we too must steer our horseless carriages by hand, though perhaps it doth be safer that way, and we hath unenhanced biology like ye, so we be joined by our lack of Great Technology. And coincidentally, this too is an election year, one of great tension and peril. (Btw, I love how you wrote the letter in medieval language :) )

@Shadowcat, CAPTCHAS and AEs are still common. My CAPTCHA  is a guinea pig, Iffy, with fluffy white fur and black and golden patches of color. She says <hztgp> (obviously she would choose this important moment to say something incomprehensible). We don't do World Domination threads anymore, sadly; I'm not sure what they were about. Maybe a returning old CBer can explain? *hopeful face*

@Clouded Leopard, I agree! And fortunately, the CB is still a very caring, supportive place, with some of the kindest people out there. I feel so lucky to be a part of it <3

@balletandbow,  I've heard of the Great AE War. I'm really glad AEs are still around!

@The Riddler, Stan sounds hilarious :) And yes, Hamilton is still wildly popular here!

@Kate-the-Great, I guess you'd be 18 by now? It seems so strange to think of CBers growing up lol.

@Gared, that's cool that you're a DJ! TVs haven't taken over the world, though :) And Liliana is actually the name of one of my OCs, so that's a coincidence.

@Icy, I think I've actually seen you around once or twice! And Kyngdom is being revived! I started an RP there and have several charries, though I don't post there as much as I'd like to.

I guess I'll go write my own letter to future CBers now. But anyway, it's lovely to have "met" all these older CBers and see what it used to be like around here. I hope y'all come back for the reunion and see this thread, revived in all its glory~

CAPTCHAS still exist. Mine, Evergreen, says+pwieu+. Sounds kinda French.

Oh yeah, right. That would kind of count as a war...

It started when on Last-to-Post, people started doing things with zoodles all over the place - zoodle crowns, covering things with zoodles, etc. (Zoodles are like pasta, but made with zucchini.) Someone (I think it was Darkvine?) made a thread for those CBers who liked zoodles and were on Team Zoodle, and someone, I think it was Amethyst, made a thread for Team Anti-Zoodle. The teams infiltrated each other's bases and generally battled. After a while, some CBers got tired of zoodles and said so, so a truce was declared, and the "war" ended.

I'd say it was more of a joke war than a real one. Speaking of which, zoodles are going extinct! We need to save them!

Dear Future Chatterboxer(s),

What's the CB like by now? Is it still the same hilarious, kind, witty place it is now? Is Last-to-Post still going strong? (In fact, scratch that question - it is. It has to be. That thread's never going to die, folks.) Do you still have solo writes and MCUs and SIs? Are any of the CBers I know still around?

It's funny how a lot of the older CBers mentioned AEs and CAPTCHAS. They're still important, but I don't think they play as big a role as they used to. Now we have a lot of other traditions as well, like the ones I mentioned.

Another question: What's the state of the world? Has the Covid/flu/RSV pandemic finally finished? What's the state of the government? Have climate change and corporate power been stopped? I really hope so. One of the most important problems we're facing right now isn't so much a lack of diversity and tolerance, though of course that's important too, as climate change. People are dying of heat and huge areas are being left without water, like in Mexico, which makes me very sad because that's where I come from, and I won't be able to go back there to live if there's no water to drink. To make matters worse, the EU just ditched an attempt at reducing pesticide use, which I am very upset about :/

Anyway. Enough about the Dire State of the World. Here's a bit about me: I've been on the CB for a year and a half, I have five AEs (Kaspar, Stormi, Ariella, Oriole, and Layia), I use she/her pronouns, and I'm writing an alternative ski lodge and a solo write. You probably know already that I'm a very politics-oriented person, but aside from that, I'm interested in horses, writing, reading, soccer, and music. My favorite movie is Confessions of a Shopaholic, and my favorite books include Momo by Michael Ende (a story about a girl who is called upon to save the world through nothing more than love and humanity, and no, I will never stop recommending this book to people), Time at the Top by Edward Ormondroyd, and Love in English by Maria E. Andreu. I really love writing and reading - I've been writing since I was like six. I find a lot of things interesting, though. I think of myself as fun-loving, sparkly, and sensitive, with a lot of imagination. For me, the world is a beautiful place - there are just so many amazing things in it. Sunsets, music, art, beaches, nature, places to visit, fascinating people to meet, books to read (and Cricket magazine! I just got the latest issue and it's seriously amazing.) One message I would like to leave for all you ~youngsters~ is that really, life is beautiful. I hope all your lives will be full of wonder and laughter, and that the CB brings as much joy to you as it has to me. Keep writing and changing the world and being the amazing people you are!

PS: I might add on to this later, as I am notorious for remembering extra things I wanted to say after I've supposedly finished talking XD and thank you @Admin for reading this whole long post!!

Well, I've got nothing else to do, so here I go:

Hello, future CBers! What's up? I'm Scuttles. I joined around February of last year, so I think I'm actually coming up on my one year CBversary soonish. One year doesn't sound like a whole lot, but I do feel kinda old. I've seen a lot of things happen here and a lot of my CB friends have already moved on.

Let's see, what has happened while I've been on here... Well, there was the Zoodle War, which doesn't really count as a war since it was (almost entirely) a fun friendly contest rather than something that people got hurt feelings over, although I've heard that all the zoodles everywhere was a bit annoying. I was here for an argument over Ski Lodges and whether or not they should be discontinued (thankfully, they live on). I was here when the Kyngdom revival started and I've done my best to help revive it. If the revival has failed, and Kyngdom is inactive again, it's up to you guys to bring it back! I've participated in a number of ski lodges and RPs, including a CB RP, which was one of my favorite RPs I've participated in.

Now here's a bit about me. I don't normally give my specific age on CB, but I want you guys to be able to calculate how old I am, so I'll tell you that I'm 15. It was 2024 when I wrote this, so how old am I now? I use any pronouns (still figuring that out, honestly). My CBsona looks like a human with moth wings and antennae, and my CAPTCHA is a bright orange corn snake named Fluffles. I don't have any AEs---not that I have anything against them, just that I'm a bit of an independent type, which has transferred over to my CBsona. I actually originally joined CB under a different name when I was much younger. That account went inactive, but a few years later I came back to write a ski lodge for CB, and i loved both CB and the character of Scuttles, who I had made (based largely on myself, just as you would make any other CBsona) as the host of the ski lodge, so much that i came back for good. I love Chatterbox. It's changed my life for the better; without it, I certainly would have stopped writing during high school. Right now, I feel like CB is a bit low on participants. You guys gotta keep it alive! If CB isn't around or active by the time I'm all grown up, I'll be sad. :( <---you see that little sad face? That's how sad I'll be! Keep this place alive and full of life and love and creativity!

And here are some responses to the CBers of the past:

Hey there! AEs and CAPTCHAs are still around! So are computers. No brain chips yet, although computers and phones have advanced quite a bit from 2015 and 2016 when you guys were posting. I looked up smartphone models of 2015, and my battered 2022 moto g Power is definitely a bit sleeker, and a good deal bigger---according to some data I found online, average smartphone size has grown an entire inch since 2015, from 5 inches to 6. Maybe in the future, that won't be big at all. CBers of the future, what do your phones and computers look like? It's weird to think that in a few years people will be reading this and thinking about what an adorable fragment of the past this is, just like we're doing with the old CBers posts.

Well, I'm off to go do my homework. Best of luck, future CBers.
