Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Hi, everyone! I'm

Hi, everyone! I'm new to the CB. I'm an avid reader and writer. My favorite genre is historical fiction -- my favorite books include The Book Thief, the Anne of Green Gables books, and the Betsy-Tacy books. Anybody who has not heard of the Betsy-Tacy books should check them out. They're about three girls growing up during the early 1900's, and they're beautifully written.

I love journaling, and I'm currently in the midst of writing several short stories. I also enjoy being outdoors -- especially swimming, hiking, photographing wildlife/scenery, and spending time on the ocean.

I have a strange obsession with exploring independent bookstores, and unfortunately, I don't happen to live very near to one. Does anybody have a local or "adopted" independent bookstore? My "adopted" independents are The Other Tiger in Westerly, RI, Bank Sqaure Books in Mystic, CT, and Riverread in Binghamton, NY.

Welcome to the CB, Booklover! I'm Mag Fan. *bows* I'd be happy to give you a tour of the CB if you'd like.

Oh, and in answer to your question about independent book stores, I can honestly say that I have no idea what they are! (I'm quite stupid; ask anyone who's known me for a while and they will tell you the same exact thing ;P)

Thanks for welcoming me, Mag Fan! I'd love a tour of the CB.

Independent bookstores are small, community bookstores -- not chains like Barnes & Noble or BAM. Each indpendent I've visited has a unique atmosphere, a helpful staff, and a great selection. I love finding/visiting new ones!

YES NEW PERSON *dashes over and hugs*

Hi there, Booklover28! Welcome to the Chatterbox!

I love the Betsy-Tacy books! Oh my gosh, I thought I was, like, the only one who even knew about them!

I also love to write short stories...although I often give up and start a new one. I've only finished a few so far.

And I love swimming, hiking, photographing, and the ocean too!

Have fun on the CB! I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Hey, alt bookstore buddy! I have a particular obsession for Chop Suey Books in Carytown, VA.

I'm WritingWarrior--alt.rock lover, creator of zines, writer of things, and designer of sites. I love biking and rambling through forests, reading thick books, killing too much time on the internet, and taffy. And I have a hatred of school. (More on that later.)

My fandoms include Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, Divergent, Les Mis, Star Wars, and various mangas, YouTube series, and "banddoms".

Ask me if you need any help. I'll make another post later with some acronyms and stuff you'll want to know. Welcome to the CB! :)

Thanks, WritingWarrior! I'll put Chop Suey Books on my list of independents to check out someday.

I haven't had a great experience at school, either. I'm starting at a new school in September and I'm hoping for a better experience.

Welcome, welcome!

I'm new here to the CB too! Everyone here is super nice. As you can see from my name, I love books. I like The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Selection, and some others I can't think of right now. I'm an aspiring writer, too, and currently working on a poetry collection.

I hope you like it here! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Bookbug! I haven't read any of the books you've mentioned, if you can believe that. I'll have to try to get a hold of them sometime.

Hi, Booklover! Welcome to the one and the only CB! We have tons of fun here, and are like a huge family. I hope you like CB and decide to stay!

I love the first two of the Betsy-Tacy books; only the first two because the others I can't find until about the last book, and I don't want to skip! I also love the other nine books you mentioned. The Book Thief is currently my favorite book, and I LOVE the Anne of Green Gables series. Have you read the Dear America series?  What is your favorite period of history?

Thanks, True! You can find all of the Betsy-Tacy books on either Amazon or Barnes & Noble. They're compiled as treasuries, which include some Maud Hart Lovelace photos and quotes. I'd also recommend Maud Hart Lovelace's Deep Valley by Julie Schrader, if you're interested in finding out more about the history behind the Betsy-Tacy books.

I've haven't read the Dear America series, but I have heard of it. I'll have to try to find some of the books!

My favorite period of history is the World War ll period. It's so interesting to learn about, and in doing so, I've come across some very inspiring stories of "unsung heroes," everyday people whose brave actions changed their little corner of the world in some way, even during a tragic time.

Welcome to the CB :D I'm Moss, aka Kyra my real name. I love writing and I'm currently in the process of a novel and not giving up on it just yet. I love reading and drawing too, and Doctor Who and Sherlock are only a few of my fandoms.

I loved The Book Thief!! I need to buy it actually... and wow Binghamton NY? That's close to where I live (well during the summer) in Franklin! I was just in Binghamton last week at an antique show where they sold all these cool antiques. I got three wooden birds. Anywho, it's cool that you went there! (Also an "adopted" independent bookstore of mine is the Green Toad in Oneonta or Inquiring Minds in New Paltz.)

Hi, Moss! I've also been to the Green Toad bookstore, and I thought they had a good selection (the adjoining coffe shop/bakery was cool, too!) I've heard of Inquiring Minds in New Paltz, but I've never been there. Thanks for telling me about it! Since you're near Binghamton, I'd definitely reccomend that you check out Riverread if you get the chance.
