I've been watching you. I know your every move- the way your face will at first contort into confusion when you read this, then slowly shift into understanding. Let's make a deal- we play a game. You win, then you're free to go. If you lose...well, let's just say that you don't want to lose.
You don't know me. But I know you. There's something that you have no control over- a mystery that is unsolvable.

"You pass," says the painting- to everyone except Fallen Leaf. A trapdoor opens, and Fallen Leaf falls through.
The painting enlargens and becomes a doorway. You step through, and find that you are in a house of mirrors. Somehow, your reflection speaks when you don't.
"Help...I'm trapped in here."

Yeah, like I'm gonna trust a talking reflection. Nice try.
I smash my fist against the glass to shatter it. There; no more creepy talking reflection. Problem solved. (This is probably gonna get me out, but it's what I would do so XD)

I reach out and touch the surface of the mirror. If my reflection can talk independently, perhaps it can move independently too. I try to pull it out. It that fails, I simply try to comfort it.

I think that if the reflection is trapped, they've tried everything to get out. Therefore they're asking for help....
So I'm going to try to pull them out.
If that fails I'll break the glass on my side of the mirror.

After hours of arguing over this;
Express your sympathy, say something motivational to them, apologize, and venture forth! If you break the glass, they might shatter.

It's a reflection. I am standing here, just fine. I can try to help it, but it won't do me that much good.
