Rebelling.

The writers of pop songs often don't understand it.

Why? They're not rebelling, even as they say they are. Oh look, you're doing JUST WHAT THE INDUSTRY IS TELLING YOU TO DO, WRITING A SONG ABOUT THE 'EDGY' TOPIC OF REBELLION.

Rebellion is laughing when everyone else is serious, and being serious when everyone else is laughing. Rebellion is dancing in the rain as everyone else huddles under their umbrellas. Rebellion is about breaking free as everyone else wears their diamond chains around their necks. Rebellion is turning and fighting as everyone flees, rebellion is wearing polka dots and stripes. Rebellion is little things.

rebelling is not following your own rules. Rebelling is sticking your socks in the couch cushions instead of the hamper. ReBelling iS deCidinG it DoeSnT mattEr wHat leTTerS gEt caPitAlizeD. Rebelling is watching my little pony in high school. Rebelling is dancing around your problems and singing until they go away. Rebelling is getting bad grades on purpose. Rebelling is winning when everyone said you lost. Rebelling is believing in the unbelievable no matter how many parents say it's them and not Santa.

Rebels are people who keep on believing and trying and hanging on no matter how shaky the branch. Rebels are people who climb higher and dream bigger and take a stand for what they believe in no matter how much opposition there is.

There's a character in a novel I'm writing named Calliope who is a rebel. She's the girl who wears prarie dresses and combat boots, who puts her hair in four braids, who paints her house rainbow colors on a street where everything is grey, who tells funny stories when everyone is crying, who doesn't care that everyone is teasing her.

Rebelling is doing something absolutely harmless to yourself that the ruling party definitely won't like. Rebelling is saying "I do this because I can." Rebelling is what happens when the people have had enough. Rebelling is questioning every aspect of society, and spitting in the face of the ones you think are wrong. Rebelling is thinking different, talking different, doing different. Because actions speak so much louder than words, especially when those words are the 'big baddies' calling you rebel scum.

In that case, rebelling is saying "Rebel scum THIS!!" and opening paintball fire.

rebelling is eating your pizza cold not because it tastes good but because it doesn't.

Rebelling is caring so much about yourself and what you believe in that you don't care what anyone else says. Rebelling is doing things precisely because others say you can't. Rebelling is trick or treating when you're too old, and listening to Christmas music in July. Rebelling is watching Disney Junior because you feel like it. Rebelling is shutting yourself in your closet with your likeminded friends and pretending you're going to Narnia. Rebelling is proving everyone wrong after they think you're weird or worthless.

Rebelling is loving yourself and feeling comfortable being who you are whether that's being smart or being pretty or being tall or being short or being a writer or being a reader or being a tomboy or being a girly-girl or NOT fitting into any of those characteristics because you're a rebel!

Rebelling is not caring.
Rebelling is believing.
Rebelling is being who you really are; being the crazy, perfectionist, hyperactive scatterbrain you are.
Rebelling is saying no to the crowd and yes to yourself.
Rebelling is finding the good bit of terrible things.

Rebelling is staying up late when your eyes re drooping, your head is heavy and you can barely think.

Rebelling is doing those crazy things.

Rebelling is crying in happy moments and laughing in sad ones.

Rebelling is being amazing, and doing good when everything is terrible.

Rebelling is dancing in the rain. Rebelling is waering what you want. Rebelling is those tiny things that somehow matter. Rebellion is riding your bike to Anywhere. Rebelling is doing something small, harmless, and good but the rulers won't like. Rebelling is singing to the sun. Rebelling is turning cartwheels before a storm. REbelling is lauging and adncing and singing so everyone can hear. Rebellion is kindness.

Rebelling is going against tradition. Rebelling is no rules. Rebelling is reading little kid books because they are so much happier and nicer than the one they are making you read at school. Rebelling is being contradictory. Rebelling is wearing your socks inside out because you like how they look that way. Rebelling is wearing your shoes on the wrong feet because you can. Rebelling is helping people realize they can rebel too. Like Kitten says, yuda. Ayuda. Spanish for help.  Helping other people realize they can rebel if they want.

Rebelling is laughing until you cry, crying until you laugh, and refusing to play your guitar at your lesson because the guitar pick is "not your friend" ;)

Rebelling is going to your favorite movie costumed ostentatiously as one of the villains. Rebelling is denying the existence of homework and eating a chocolate chip muffin for breakfast. Rebelling is putting mustard on your hot dog when everybody else adds ketchup. Rebelling is refusing to have anything to do with that big gory tragic scene, and instead watching alternate universes over and over in your head. Rebelling is breaking the shackles of stereotypes and mediocrity, saying "Be the best you can be, because you are you and there's nobody as is ever gonna change that." Rebelling is painting yourself orange, making friends with the nerdy new kid, putting others first when everyone seems to think only for themselves.

Rebelling is not a "trend"- it's the exact opposite.
