Boredom Busters

Does anyone have any ideas to do while you're bored, besides going on the Chatterbox? Do you know of any crafts, games, etc. to do in order to bust boredom? If you do please post your ideas here! :)

Usually when I'm bored, I just read.

Sometimes, I think up interesting imaginary people and have mental conversations with them. Proof of my insanity, but besides conjuring up a few good story ideas, it also can pass the time when you're doing something boring, like chores.

When I'm bored, I normally read, surf the internet, or watch Netflix.  Sometimes, though, I grab my sister or brother and play an improv game or two.  I could post some of the improv games I know if you want.

Improv games are fun!

My cousins do improv, and I've played lots of fun ones with them. Have you ever played the one where one person does sound effects and the other person has to act and make their actions fit the sounds? It's pretty hard but my cousins are really good at it, and it's REALLY FUN to watch when it's done well!

Yeah, I've done that one before.  It's really funny!  I've also played one kind of like that where one person is acting in a certain situation and another is voicing their thoughts.  That one was so funny because some thoughts were insulting someone else and some thoughts were really just random, like pineapple!

I have this 'Boredom Jar' where I write things that I could do if I am ever bored. Then, when I am bored, I pull one out and do it.

Some of the things in the jar:

1: Read

2: Write

3: Make Up Your Own Board Game (I did this once and came out with this really fun game with it's own cards and game pieces.)

4: Start and Finish a Puzzle Over 500 Pieces

5: Take a Walk Around Your Town or Neighborhood

6: Research a Topic You've Been Wanting to Learn More About

7: Reorganize Your Room

8: Find a New Recipe and Make It

9: Close Your Eyes and Try to Make a Drawing (These can be really funny.)

10: Draw

11: Make a Find It - Find a clear jar or plastic container with a lid. Fill the container with rice (colorful rice to make it more challenging) until it almost reaches the top. Then, find 20-30 small items like buttons, cottonball, safety pins, beads... and write everything down on a sheet of paper. Put a lid on your container securely and tape your list to it. Shake the container until most of the objects are covered by the rice. Then, it's like a scavenger hunt. You have to find all the items on your list. To make it more challenging, try finding all the items in the order of the list.

12: Make a Collage

13: Write a Letter to Someone

14: Put on Some Music and Dance

Here are some more ideas on the subject of boredom busting

-Flip through the dictionary and find new words for your vocabulary

-Build with blocks or legos

-Play with any pets you may have

-Draw something using unusual colors, gold, magenta, beige, etc.

-Draw a scribble and try to find a real picture inside of it

-Use randomly selected words to write a poem or song

-Make toothpick structures

-Observe somebody carefully and see how long it is until they notice

-Search your local library for interesting books that you may not normally read

I hope this is helpful info!

I read this in the book: The Egypt Game

Make up a a character or two or more and hunt through magazines until you find someone that fits your description. Cut them out. Then you can make up a story about them!

You could also create a 'house' by doing basically the same thing. Find rooms and furniture you like from magazine pictures and cut them out and glue on a cardboard base.

*NOTE: DO NOT DO THIS WITH CRICKET. AGAIN, DO NOT DO THIS WITH CRICKET!*

Also - here's something I like to do, but it might sound sorta creepy.

I look out my window and spot one person walking outside. Then I make up a bunch of questions about the person and try to answer them based on how they seem to me.

For example...

-How old are they?

-What did they eat for breakfast this morning?

-How many hours of sleep did they get last night?

etc., etc. Again, it might sound stalker-ish, but it's a good way to pass the time! :D

There was this boy who always took the same train I did. He got on at the same stop as I did, but got off later than me. I wondered who he was and tried making up a story about him... but it totally sucked.

Ooh, that is a great idea! It totally appeals to my home decor sense, and my collage sense.
