Things We Memorize
Things We Memorize
I was going over a poem to myself the other day and thought I'd create a post of all the things we memorize: poetry, passages from stories, songs, movie dialogue, anything. In order to save space, just say what it is you've memorized, not the passage itself.
Here's mine:
"All that is gold does not glitter" poem by J.R.R. Tolkien (I love this thing)
"The Jabberwock" by Lewis Carroll
Nearly all of the Two Towers trailer
The entire dialogue from The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh from when Pooh arrives at Rabbit's house to when Pooh flies out of the hole into the honey tree.
The Gettysburg Address by Abe Lincoln
That's all I can think of now. What do you recite to yourself (over and over and over)?

Same here! And the chord sequence.
Other than that, bits of TMBG, Hank Green and other songs. LOTS of bits of songs. And book quotes. Lots of book quotes. And quotes from other things. I quote things a lot. Too many lots.

@ Gollum:
I also quote an insane amount of stuff. I think it must annoy the heck out of everyone I talk to. Not one conversation passes that I don't work a quote in.

Whenever I say I can find a quote for almost any situation, I usually follow that up with
"When I look into my room I see a girl who loves books." Looking for Alaska, by John Green.
(January 17, 2014 - 3:41 pm)
Most of "Paul Revere's Ride"
A lot of random verses of poetry and songs, lines from books, and quotes
(January 10, 2014 - 6:14 pm)
I know I'm weird. I memorize license plate numbers.... But I'm doing it to improve my memory.

Poems from Polka Bats and Octopus Slacks by Calef Brown-- Ed and Fido and Rover (or is it Mulligan Poker?).
My friend's address.
The sign language alphabet.
part of that song in The Sound Of Music--
Blue satin sashes and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with string-- these are a few of my favorite things!
When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad
etc.
three songs on piano & guitar.

Whenever it snows, my dad goes to the window and recites the poem "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. When I was like eight, I decided that I would like to do that too, so behold! I have it memorized.
Also, I have this memorized from the Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart:
"Grow the lawn and mow the lawn
always keep the TV on,
brush your teeth and kill the germs,
poison apples, poison worms."
There's more to it, a better part about memories or something, but I can't remember the whole thing and I don't want to put a fragment...

Oh! Also, I have memorized the first part of Fur Elise on the piano, because I like that song.
(January 28, 2014 - 12:13 pm)
Pretty much the only tune I have memorized on the piano is "Greensleeves" but I know a whole bunch on the fiddle.
(February 12, 2014 - 6:05 pm)
From the Tempest by Shakespeare:
"Full fathom five thy father lies of his bones are coral made. Those are pearls that were his eyes nothing of him that doth fade."
Princess Bride quotes:
"Have fun storming the castle!"
"Inconcievable!"
"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

I want to memorize the words to Call Me Maybe and Royals. Does anyone know them?
(January 31, 2014 - 11:32 am)
Well, I have most of Call Me Maybe memorized. You could always google the lyrics. I use a certain website, but I don't know if I'm allowed to post it on here.
