Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Pottermore RP!
Tiffany W.'s great...

Tiffany W.'s great idea of a Pottermore RP, where we are the students at Hogwarts using our results from Pottermore! So far we've got:

Age:13 (3rd year)

House: Hufflepuff

Wand: Elm with unicorn hair, 10 3/4 inches, unyielding

Pet: Natterjack toad named Klöner Hansel Ekel, Hansel for short

Blood status: I don't care, so I'll wait until everyone else has told theirs and see what we need more of, although if I'm pure-blood, I'll have to change my last name

Appearance: Long, dark brown hair with natural golden highlights, pale skin, hazel eyes, lots of bracelets, 4 brooches in the shapes of tardigrades (microscopic animals that can survive a lot of amazing things), a silver necklace with a charm in the shape of the letter "K", blue and bronze glasses (which don't really fit my Pottermore house, but I actually didn't get Ravenclaw colors on purpose)

Ivy C. (not my real last name)

Age: 11 or 12?

Year: First

House: Will be in Gryffindor

Wand: Sycamore, Unicorn hair,14 1/2, Unyielding.

Pet: Barn owl named Zell, or Elira

Blood Status: Muggle Born

Appearance: Long, straight, blond hair, blue/gray eyes, fair skin. 5'3". Usually wears her hair in a braid, or a headband.

Personality: A little shy, when you first meet her, but once you get to know her, pretty outgoing. Smiles and laughs alot.

Hobbies: Reading, writing, singing, dancing.

Please join!!!!

But please don't use the same name as you've been given in Pottermore. We aren't allowed to post user names for other sites.

Okay, since I'm a fifth-year I'll join in when it seems appropriate, as opposed to when we get our letters. :P

(Ps: Did you know  that Hitler died on May 3rd, Voldemort died on May 2nd, and Osama Bin Laden died on May 1st?)

No, I didn't. Wow.

@ ZNZ: Oh, you're right! Oops. I thought Rose Zeller was in Harry's year.

That means that if I want to be a canon character, I have to be either Megan Jones (a Hufflepuff in Harry's year) or Sally-Ann Perks (We don't know what House she's in), since we know the other Hufflepuff girls in his year, and I don't identify with them. I find it hard to identify with anyone named Sally-Ann, but Megan Jones is very, very Welsh in my head!canon. I don't know nearly enough about Wales to pull that off, and I don't want to betray my head!canon (although if anyone else decides to be her, that's fine), so I'll be Sally-Ann.

ZB: Your pet is your avatar on Pottermore. If you can't tell from looking what kind of owl it is, go to Diagon Alley and then to the pet shop. Find the owl that looks like yours; it'll be the same type.

Name: Essie Rhaiser

Age: 11

Year: First

House: Will be in Slytherin

Pet: Black cat named Joker

Blood Status: Mother a pureblood, father a halfblood, so a three-quarters blood.

Appearance: Slightly Asianish. 5'4.5". Brown hair, brown eyes.

Personality: Me. Except more... cunning. She throws things when she becomes upset. Now that she has a wand...

Hobbies: Throwing things. Eating food. She likes yummy food. Running at high speeds.

((for the record, Potterverse blood purity follows the same rules that the Nazis did for determining whether someone was Jewish or not, so if you had one Muggle-born grandparent, you were half-blood. Is it Insane Troll Logic? Yes. Should we expect anything else from that sort of person? No. /bloodpurismismyfavoritetopic))

Hey, TNÖ, is your school year almost over now? Do you care to share any reflections on your first year of college with us?

((I have four days of this block left, then one more block [Philosophy 101], and then I'm done. My general impression is "OMG college squee! *flailing forever*" because college is awesome and  I get good grades for going off on tangents and discussions and I wrote three papers about Seurat and La Grande Jatte and stuff. This is incoherent because I haven't had enough sleep in ages.))

Why not now? I'll try to post sometime this weekend; if someone else starts before me, of course, that's fine, too.

Ivy~

I sat down at the dining room table for breakfast. My mom had just sat down with my dad and me, when I noticed something strange." Is that an owl outside the window?" I said. "I don't see how it could..." My mom's jaw dropped open mid-sentence, as the owl flew through the open window and landed on the table right in front of me. It extended its leg to me, so I could see that something was tied to it. With trembling fingers, I untied it. It was an envelope that said,

Miss Ivy Clearwater

The Dining Room

504 Greenwood St.

Bristol, England,

in bright green ink. "That's strange. Is that just a coincidence?" Somehow, I didn't think so. On the back, there was a crest, with a lion, an eagle, a serpent, and a badger, with a large H in the middle. I took a deep breath, and slit the envelope open. The piece of paper inside said,

Dear Miss Clearwater,

We are plaesed to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all the necessery books and equipment. Term starts September 1. We await your owl no later than July 31.

I looked up. "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?! Does that mean that I'm a... witch?"

Okay... this is just to clarify, but is some sort of Hogwarts teacher supposed to show up if you're Muggle-born?

That is what Snape said in book 7. I imagine it would probably be Professor McGonagall most of the time, but I don't know.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure how they know where Diagon Alley is. I know that they can exchange muggle money for galleons, sickles, and knuts. Thats what Hermoine does:)

I'm pretty sure that's been canon since before book seven, actually, though I can't remember which book it was mentioned in. (Albus going to Tom could count, I suppose.) It just doesn't make any sense otherwise. The only reason they didn't send anyone to Harry (well, they sent Hagrid, but they sent him after Harry had failed to respond to any of the letters) was because they assumed he must know already. It just doesn't make any sense otherwise; there has to be someone to explain things to the parents and the kid, prove that magic's real; otherwise the letter would almost certainly be written off as a hoax. They also need someone to give them directions to Diagon and tell them how to get on the platform.

@Ima: I'm glad you think it's McGonagall as well. I was planning to use her for that if no one objected. It seems like something she'd be good at, especially since she's confirmed to be half-blood. (I was very happy about the new McGonagall backstory.) (And of course it would be mad to send someone who had no idea about Muggles.)

((I always assumed that telling Muggleborns was one of the duties of the Deputy Headmaster/mistress.))
