Sorry all you

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Hunger Games!
Sorry all you...

Sorry all you HG fans, but I read the first book today, and.. well...

I loved the idea, and action, and whatnot. But if you know what I mean, all the time, when I was reading it, it felt like I was reading a book. You readers probably understand.

What sort of blocked me is the writing-- the incomplete sentences were REALLY annoying. I mean, they're okay when you want to draw people's attention to something, but SC uses them way too much.

Wait, SC. Suzane Collins. I didn't mean that SC. :|

But, anyway, I didn't like it that much. Also, I thought that it would really sound much better in third person.

I liked the incomplete sentences thing.  I never think in complete sentences, so it seemed completely realistic to me.

As for the love triangle thing, just look at pretty much any action movie.  You can fall in love, no matter what's happening.

I used to love THG and thought it as amazing and then I read some other books. THG is just okay in comparison... *coughBZRKcough*

And I read THG when I was 10, 11 or 12. Compared with regular-day anime and video games and most tv shows, THG isn't very violent. I've heard fifth graders swear like sailors and pretend to be people in MW3 and Black Ops, I'm sure they would be fine with THG.

Hi, Olive! I went to Tim Horton's in Michigan this morning! I thought of you. Now I'm back in Illinois.

@Olive

I agree with you on THG not being the absolute best book in the world.  I mean, if it were Kingdom Keepers everyone was obsessing about, I probably wouldn't be agreeing with you.:)

I see there are still a lot if HG dislikers. I didn't really like the book that much, although the action parts were creative and really cool, but I don't think that romance did well in a book like that. I mean, if you know me, I am obssesed with romance. I CANNOT. GET. ENOUGH! But for some reason, I just felt annoyed by the the romance, and wished that there was maybe only a little, or better yet, none at all. It just didn't fit well in a book that you felt was supposed to be about danger, suspense, etc.

Also I HATE PEETA! I've never seen such a jerk! My friend described him as a 'double crossing rat'. I wish she could have married Gale. I like him. He's MUCH more mature and awesome. Katniss just doesn't deserve a moron for a husband. I've only read the first book, (we ordered the next 2 books and they have yet to come,) but I've heard a lot from my friends. I think the last book looks really exciting, but not so much the second. Opinions, anyone?

@Blackberry E.,

I agree that THG is not the best book. I also agree that the romance was very unrealistic and kind of lame. I've only read the first book too, but, TEAM PEETA!!! Peeta is way better than Gale, in my opinon.

Peeta is SO immature! I think Gale is a lot more manly and reliable. :(

SPOILER ALERT. I also hate how Peeta is obsessed with Katniss. That's just gross. My friend told me that in Catching Fire Peeta proposes to Katniss, and she has to say yes or Gale gets killed. That is SO unfair!!! And I suppose Peeta doesn't even care. All he cares about is getting her. BLAH!

Based on the first book, TEAM PEETA!!!!

I don't know, I seem to kinda like Peeta...although I HATE his name. The present perfect way of writing is really irksome...It seems so unnatural. And Gale seems a little annoying although his name is cool to the nth degree. Gale Hawthorne. It's the name that was meant for grand heros.

Oh no. We're starting the Team Peeta/Team Gale thing like Twilight. (Team Edward/Team Jacob) I liked Gale when I began the series, though he does get annoying towards the end. Peeta is annoying at the beginning but gets better at the end. Warning: I am not picking sides.

@Sakura C.- Actually, the love triangle is extremely common in all writing so it isn't that bad. I think even Shakespeare has love triangles, but I'll have to check it again. And people fall in love whether it's a good time or not. At the beginning Katniss is faking it to get sponsers. Only later do Peeta and Katniss really fall in love. One question, do you like Twilight?

I read approximately 3.5 pages of Twilight and then had the sudden urge to flush it down the toilet.

Ok, I have a question for you guys. If you were to meet Peeta, what would you say to him? Questions, comments, etc. I'd probably tell him that he disgustes me.

I would ask him how it felt to win, you know, just normal stuff.

*tears* Peeta-haters. I love Peeta. He's so sweet. I don't see how anyone could hate him. I would tell him that he was inspiring.
