Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Harry Potter Role Play, anybody??
Yeah, I know...

Yeah, I know that these are getting old. But I was really in the mood for another RP and I haven't been reading much fiction because I'm doing Greece research. Sooo, anyone wanna join? Before Harry?

Yes, I believe so, Ima.

I will be in Slytherin but I won't be a founder (if that's OK?).

I like the idea of the CoS opening! Maybe I could know parselmouth... Oh well. Ideas, ideas.

The 7th book, well at least the Battle of Hogwarts, took place on May 2nd 1998. So, assuming that the book started in the summer of 1997, that means the 6th book started in 1996 and the 5th started in 1995. And the Sorting happens in the beginning of the school year, 1995, so 1000 years before that would be 1895. So Hogwarts opened then???

And could I be a Ravenclaw? And no one's a Muggle-born, oui? Because Salazar didn't want any in the school, and then there was a fight and blah blah blah... So Muggle-borns were accepted after Salazar left, right?

Actually, 1896 is 100 years before 1995. 1000 years before 1995 would be 995. (Don't worry; I've made that mistake, too). But since random numbers are more realistic, and I'm probably the only one that cares either way, and the SH said 1000 years or more ago, let's use 993 or 991. I like 991, so unless anyone else has an opinion, let's use 991.

I got the impression that Salazar somehow found it within himself to tolerate Muggle-borns in the school at first as long as they stayed away from his House, but then he just couldn't bear it anymore, so that started his argument with Gryffindor. I'm not entirely certain about that, though.

Your math is off. 1895 is one hundred years before 1995. One thousand would be 995. A Wikipedia search reveals that 995 AD was a common year beginning on a Tuesday. Also, Æthelred the Unready was king of England.

Yepers. So, 1895, no muggles, and I'll be in Slytherin. I need to work on my evil. So, how should we start this? Do you think that the Hogwarts Express would have been built, like, just built? Or they could gallop into the distance on thestral-drawn carriages? Hehe.

ZNZ's comment isn't up yet, and I'm not quite magical enough to know what it says, but I do know that she has done research on the year 995, so to save her--or anyone else--time, if she hasn't researched the year 991 or 993 as well, we'll go with 995.

I looked at exactly two Wikipedia pages, both were mostly lists, and I didn't even read all of either; that's hardly enough to tie us to 995 if that's not where we want to be. I'm open to any year.

This sounds like it'll be good! Should I post my character thingie? What should the plot be and are we in year 991 AD or 18--?

I think we're doing 995 AD.

Scotland had its own king at the time, Cináed mac Maíl Coluim (or Kenneth the second). He was murdered that year, to be replaced by his son, Máel Coluim mac Cináeda (Malcolm the second).

Okay, let's actually start it. It's kinda making me laugh that we're arguing about a year. 995 CE is decided, but I don't actually know how to start it. I'm not the type of person to start it, more like continuing it.

We ain't arguin'! We ain't even debatin'! We were just trying to decide what to use!

I don't think we can start yet, because we haven't decided on a plot yet, have we? I like all three of the ideas, but I don't think we can combine them; I think Salazar would have waited a few years at least before storming off in a huff, yeah? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the chamber was actually opened until Riddle came along. (though of course we can have him setting it up and stuff, that would be cool) Which would mean the first year or when Salazar stormed off in a huff. I vote the founding of the school and the first year.

First year's fine. I didn't really think it was opened before Riddle's time, either, but I realized that was never actually said...

I think that, since  different people of the same age would have had different levels of education, there would have to be some sort of test to see what grade you were in.

995 AD. This is going to be interesting! Could it be everyone's first year?

I hope I'm not too late or anything but since you haven't started yet, I'll just be a Ravenclaw member and I'm sorry ahead of time if I don't know enough about the founding.
