Never read the books. The movies are SUPER awesome. My sister and friend read the books and said, after watching the movies, the books were just to difficult to read. So I decided that I could live with just having watched the movies. They are just so amazing... the details, the actors, Orlando Bloom *breathes* *blushes* But I probably will read them.... possibly... someday.
Somone said something about Boromir (forgot how to spell his name...) Well, in the movies, they make him out to be your least favorite character. Well, to me. He might be better in the books.

Well, my dad read them to us when I was eight all the way till my baby sis was born. :D I only once saw the movies...when I was six...but Dad says they're terrible, and I am inclined to agree with him. ;) But the books RUN!
