Fairy Tales
Ok, the different...

Ok, the different colored Fairy Books!!

I'm seriously obsessed with Fairy Tales, and recently discovered the amazing books of stories collected and revised by Andrew Lang.  They are so great!!!  So far I've only read The Green Fairy Book, but I have from the library The Blue Fairy Book, and plan to get all the rest as soon as possible!!  I really wish I could buy the whole set, but as we all know, I really can't afford it.  :P

Has anyone read these?  They're really quite great, and I love to quote them!!  My favorite quote is "Oh horror, she has no heart!"  Heehee, isn't that divine?

So, PLEASE share with me your favorite fairy tales, or legends, or folk tales, or whatever, I'm always looking for new ones!!!!!

My personal favorite fairy tale is The Twelve Dancing Princesses, and I was very pleased to discover recently the book entitled: Princess of the Midnight Ball, a splendid rendition of said tale!!!  But my favorite version of it for the illustrations is the one (illustrated) by Kinuko Craft.  Wonderful!!  In fact, this afternoon I received a poster from the book!  It was on sale, and it's my favorite scene!  I'm so happy.  I'm going to frame it and put it in my cottage.  (yes, I have my own cottage)

So, I really have to go because it's really late and my family is waiting for me, and I haven't brushed my teeth or put on my pjs, or flossed, or anything, so I simply must FLY!  But I want you all to list your favs!!!!!!

And I will try to list all of the colors of the fairy books tomorrow, but if I don't, please don't hate me!!  Love you!

I have read a part of the blue fairy book, but not all of it. You would enjoy The Princess Tales, vols 1 & 2. The stories are stuff like "Princess Snora and the Long Sleep" ("Sleeping Beauty"). There are more but I can't remember them right now. I also liked "The Princess Frog" by E.D. Baker. There is a whole series of them except I have not read them all. I liked Fairest by Levine, The Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale ( The Goose Girl, Enna Burning and River Secrets). I also liked a book called Goose Chase, but i can't remember the author.

Oh, are the Princess Tales (v. 1.&2.) by Levine???  I'm pretty sure I did read those!!!  I liked them a lot.  :)  Isn't one of them about a girl who hick-ups jewels, after a not very bright fairy bestows her with the 'gift'??

I used to love The Princess Tales, but I don't really like them anymore. And yes, they're  all by Levine.

And speaking of GCL, I liked Fairest a lot, and I loved The 2 Princesses of Bamarre. I already talked about Ella  Enchanted. I've never seen Ever, only heard of it, and Fairy Dust And The Quest For The Egg doesn't look like something I'd like. I don't know of anything else she's (at first I said I've!) written.

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention I, Coriander. That was pure genius.

Oh, totally.  I though I wrote about that one... hmm... Yes, I, Coriander.  Ah.  :D :D  I searched so hard for that one in the bookstores.  Finally found it in Treehorn and rejoiced for about three days!!  :D

I love the books by Shannon Hale, which are often based on fairy tales (but not always; Princess Academy, for example, is not. Otherwise, I know that Book Of A Thousand Days is based on a fairy tale, and I think The Goose Girl is—though I'm not sure—but that's all I know). And Bella At Midnight (by Diane Stanley), which is based on Cinderella, is awesome. And there's Swan Sister, which is a group of fractured fairy tales (I really don't like that term, actually, it sounds like they broke the story and ruined it or something, but I couldn't think of any other phrase to use) edited by  Elen Datlow and Terri Windling. And there's a book of Native American fairy tales that I really like, recorded by Henry Schoolcraft. The problem is, it has 2 titles. They are: Folk Tales Of The North American Indian and The Indian Fairy Book, so you can look for either 1, if any of you plan on reading it. Oh, and Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher. It's based on The 1001 Nights. And how could I forget The Legend Of The Indian Paintbrush, and The Legend Of The Bluebonnet? I don't remember the author of those, though, nor do I own them. Oh, and there's one other book. It's not all fairy tales, it's actually a collection of... well, just random things about the ocean. Some of it is just facts. There's a chapter on pirates, for example, that's all true. And there are songs and poems, too, and 'information' on mythical creatures. But there are some really good myths and stories in it. Anyway, I might as well give the title and author, I suppose. It's called Song Of The Sea, by Ann Spencer. Oh, and And now I just thought of another, so I might as well post it, too. Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It's kind of like what happened after Cinderella, but the events of the Cinderella story itself are markedly different.

Oh, Shadow Spinner is one of my favorite books!!!!!  AND, I own Just Ella!!!  I LOVE it!!!!!  It's so good!!!  Ima, I think you would really like The Swan Maiden, you should try it.  It's one of my top favorites.  I actually considered rereading it the moment I finished it (I did the same with HP), but I didn't, because I had books from the library I needed to read first.  But I bought it without even knowing what it was.  Same with Fairest (by G.C. Levine).  I'm so glad I did!!!

Anyway, when my shelf of library books has become it bit less stuffed, I'll check out some of those!!  They sound good.....  :)
