This is where...
This is where you can write ANYTHING about Harry Potter. Like: Your fav character, and why. Your fav book from the series. Do you think so or so should have died.
I'll get a conversation starting if that's OK:
What do you do to show your Harry Potter spirit?

Then there's Tonks's name. Nympha in Latin means Nymph. And Tonsus which means the mode or wearing of the hair. But that one is questionable. And then Merope, a Latin character from a story, her star was dimmer than the rest because she married a mortal. And Merope Gaunt married a Muggle! And then there's the word pensieve made from the latin word pensito, which means to ponder or think about. And Rubeus means red or reddish in color, or mad of bramble. Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titanlandus translates from Latin as Never tickle a sleeping dragon.

I think that Malfoy means "bad faith" or something.

"Never tickle a sleeping dragon" seems like an odd motto for a school. Then again, Hogwarts is an odd name for a school, and it is an odd school itself... No offense everyone, I didn't mean odd as in "bad", but the good kind of odd. You know what I mean?

Sorry, when I talk about werewolves, I get different aspects of them mixed up. Lupin means wolf, not moon *facepalm*.
Luna means moon, agua (like in the spell, aguamenti) means water in Spanish, and ave (like in the spell, avis) means bird in Latin. Oh, and Severus sounds a lot like the word 'severe,' but that might be a coincidence.
@ Mary Liz: Actually, his name makes sense. I kind of like the fact that it's so ordinary. It made the beginning of the first book more humorous, anyway.
@ Hannah: You wouldn't happen to know what Erised Stra Ehru Oyt Ube Cafru Oyton Weisl means, would you?
(September 27, 2009 - 12:47 pm)
Actually, it reads: erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi. Backwards, that is "I show not your face but your heart's desire."
(September 28, 2009 - 7:10 am)
@ Reuben: H-h-how did you notice that Erised Stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on woshi spelled backwards is that?! That's amazing! Now that I realize that, I feel so, unsmart looking through my Latin dictionary trying to find it. Great job!

Yes, luna means moon, and agua means water. No thanks to rossetta stone, I knew that. My sister Luna, is named Luna, as you have probably read before. And that is how I know what luna means. And agua, I don't remember where or when I learned it...

@ Ima: Not sure if it's coincidental or not, but "Severus Snape" mixed up = "persues Evans." I mean, you do have to misspell "pursues," but still...
Ginny is a form of Gweniviere ((sp?)), who was King Arthur's wife. Harry is like the King Arthur character, and he ends up with Ginny.
Also, I didn't figure these out myself, I read them somewhere. *nod*

Re: Arthurian Legends: Except for the part where Gwenivere starts the chain of events that lead to Arthur's downfall, that is... *coughLancelotcough*
(September 28, 2009 - 6:19 pm)
@ TNO: Have you watched Merlin the tv show yet? I remember you saying somewhere that you wanted to. Season two is coming next year in late spring I think. And doesn't Gwenivere in the legends say that she marries Arthur?

Did you read them in What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7? I have that book! It isn't completely right all the time- I mean, it's all predictions- but it's great. I can't believe you have it too!!
(September 29, 2009 - 3:08 pm)
@ Mango: Were you asking me that? If yes, then no. I do not have that book.
(September 29, 2009 - 5:16 pm)
@ Hannah P: Were you the one who said the thing about Snape's name? Because if no, then I was asking someone else.
(September 30, 2009 - 4:15 pm)
Mary, in the book Ginny is short for Ginervera (it is probibly spelled wrong), isn't it?? I think I read it in Deathly Hallows at Bill and Fleur's( spelling again) weddin.

@ Ima: Severus is a Latin word meaning strict, or asture (whatever that means). And no, I do not know what Erised Stra Ehru Oyt Ube Cafru Oyton Weisl means. Sorry.
