The fad for
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
The fad for listing favourite books seems to be dying out, and I have nothing better to do. Please, please, please don't take offense, I'm just trying to occupy my time.
1. Twilight etc., by Smeyer. Because... yes. Moving along.
2. Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke. Mainly because of the characters, though the idea was original.
3. Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. We've been over this one, I think.
4. Howl's Moving Castle, by DWJ. Except for Howl and Calcifer, of course.
5. GIC. Anything GIC, simply because it's GIC.
6. The Pandora series that Carolyn Hennessy never actually gave a real name to because she's a dreadful writer anyway.
7. The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart. I'm really sorry, I just detested these books.
8. From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, by E. L. Konigsburg. Don't even get me started on this...
There are others, I guess, but I don't want to bore anyone too awfully... I mean no offense to any fans, authors, etc. with this thread, I just honestly have little else to do. What are everyone else's thoughts on these books? Books that you didn't enjoy?

Well, despite all the hype, I didn't like Sing Down the Moon by Scott O' Dell, and Walk Two Moons kind of lost me, no offense to those authors. I should at least give Walk Two Moons another chance; it was mainly that I couldn't follow it. I've liked other things by Sharon Creech better.
I'm just curious -- what didn't you like about From the Mixed-Up Files? Sorry, I know you said not to get you started, but I don't have particularly strong feelings about it one way or the other, and I'm curious to see the point of view of someone who didn't like it.

@ Lena: I couldn't get into Walk Two Moons either, but I too should probably give it another chance. :/
Regarding: Mixed-Up Files- It just didn't make sense. The whole Michelangelo/Angel thing was very unrealistic, and yet it was meant to be realistic fiction. And Claudia was a Sue half the time and very unlikable the rest of the time. Might've also had something to do with the fact that we had to do summer homework on it, and summer homework on a book is the surest way possible to get a child to dislike a certain book. :/

I really didn't like The Lord of the Rings. But I really liked the first movie. The first time I saw it I thought that Gandalf was a giant and the Hobbits were all normal sized. But then when I saw all the elves and that all the trees were towering over the Hobbits, I realized that the Hobbits were small and the others were normal sized.

I actually really liked Eragon and The Mysterious Benedict Society. I can't wait till October 6th. That's the date when the third MBS is coming out!

I know! I read an excerpt and it looks really good. I want seventeen dollars for my birthday the 27th so I can buy it on the 6th, since I can't actually have it for my birthday. :(

I've only read Inkheart and Eragon. I liked them a lot, actually.
Let's see... I don't like the Emily Windsnap books. What's GIC? I didn't really like Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat, but I didn't dislike it. I don't like picture books. I can't seem to recall any others I didn't enjoy...

Great Illustrated Classics. *shudder* Think classic literature such as The Phantom of the Opera or Edgar Allen Poe turned into *picture* books.

I dislike some books. But there is only one I truly HATE. I won't even say the name, i'm just going to tell you what I think about it. They are so mean to one of the girls in that book. I think that Judy Blume was trying to make it funny. Was NOT funny, at all. It was Okay-ish writing, but the plot and story was so mean. The book is just HORRIBLE. (the reason i'm not saying the name is because I don't want you guys to read it and suffer because of the book). i recommend you NOT to read it. Okay, I guess I have to tell you the name of it so you won't read it by accident, Blubber. Mean.

I loved Walk Two Moons! It made sense to me, I just had to think a bit more than I usually do on books:D

OK; I suppose I'd better try it again. I just read Bloomability by Sharon Creech, and I liked it. Sorry... I know this is a didn't-like-books-thread.

I just read Bloomability too! I also thought that it was a good book. :)

I really liked Emily Windsnap, Inkeart, From the Mixed-Up Files, and the Mysterious Benedict Society. Why didn't you like Emily Windsnap, Ima? Uh...books I hated...I usually try to forget about them, so let's see. Oh, yes. Tangerine by Edward Bloor and Talking Earth by Jean Craighead George. Tangerine I mostly don't like because, like Mary Liz, I had to do a school report on. Talking Earth I had to do a school report on too, but I would hate it anyway. It's pretty much a science textbook trying desperately to disguise itself as a "survival" story, but not succeeding. It is probably the dullest fiction book I have ever read.

@ Ima- Oh yes, the Emily Windsnap books were insufferable as well. And GIC stands for Great Illustrated Classics. bleh... *shudders* The "simplified" versions of books, you know. Like watered-down Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, EAP, Jules Vernes, etc. Very, very, very bad.
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen was also a dreadful book. A bit like how you described Talking Earth, Allison.

Wow, you don't like From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler?? I ♥ that book!!!! :)
