Hello, everyone!
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Book Recommendations Please!
Hello, everyone! ...
Hello, everyone!
I'm looking for some good summer reading! I recently went to the library and checked out four books: See You at Harry's, The Green Glass Sea, Chains, and Green Rider. Has anyone read any of these? If so, share your thoughts! No spoilers, please! When I'm through with these, I'll go back and hopefully get some of your suggestions. For the suggestions, I like practically every genre. From high fantasty to non-fiction! Don't feel the need to just recommend YA books; I still read Children's, too! I'll really read anything that looks good. And finally, please try to recommend books that are less common. No need to mention Harry Potter or Percy Jackson! I've already read them :)
Happy summer!

In response to your book list:
It looks like you made some cool selections.
--See You At Harry's: Never read it. I Googled it, and it looks interesting...like a book that makes you really sad but then also really thoughtful and then finally happy. At least, that's what I got from the plot syopsis.
--The Green Glass Sea: Okay, so I haven't actually read this book, but I have a story about it. MY family was travelling to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico (it was really cool). My mom surprised me by checking out a book from our local library called White Sands, Red Menace, which I read two chapters of. I was really confused and kind of bored because it was referencing all these things I didn't get. Then I looked at it and saw it was the sequel to The Green Glass Sea. That title made me wonder...it didn't sound like it had anything to do with White Sands, or New Mexico, or anything in the book.
Later on our trip to New Mexico, we visited the Bradbury Science museum in Los Alamos, which has a huge labratory complex that makes amazing, groundbreaking experiments and discoveries. It's where my mom lived when she was my age, in like 7th and 8th grade. She said it was where she belonged, since because of the lab it was "nerd town." Los Alamos is also famous because that's where the atomic bombs that were made. Yes, the ones that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While we were at the museum, we watched a short film about the atomic bomb's making. It mentioned how, after the bomb was tested in the New Mexico desert, the sandy area where the test bomb was dropped turned into green glass. (Glass is made from sand mixture by the way.) They even had exhibits that included green glass from...you guessed it, The Green Glass Sea.
So, long story short, I have never read the book and for all I know I could like it or not but...I do have an interesting connection to it.
--Chains: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I first read it in 5th grade, and I was blown away. I haven't read it in a while actually. I do know I loved it though.
And here's a really cool thing about Chains. My first ever CB post was on Blab About Books, and it was on Chains. *sentimental sighing*
Here's my review from over two years ago:
I read this book by Laurie Halse Anderson as part of a book club I'm in, and keep reading it over and over. It's from the perspective of an orphan slave named Isabel. It's placed during colonial times, during the American Revolution. There are a lot of real historical events, brought into a new light. Isabel and her sister, Ruth, are sold to two Loyalists, the Locktons.
"Chains" is one of the most well-written books iIve ever read. When I read it, it was like I was transported into the book. It is full of heartwarming surprises, as well as some heartbreaking ones. I highly recommend that you read it. You won't be disappointed!

--Green Rider: No idea, never read it. According to Google, it's historical fiction. You seem to really like that genre or at least are interested in exploring it...that's something I can appreciate/think is cool.
So I've actually only read one of these but *shrug* happy reading.

Oh, I didn't think I'd read Chains, but when I read your post I realized I had!
I can recommend, if you haven't read them, Six Feet Over It, The Book Thief, The Ordinary Princess, the Redwall series, King of the Wind, Nimona, and The Two Princesses of Bamarre.
