Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book Recommendations
Recommendations, anyone?  I&#...

Recommendations, anyone?  I've read almost all the "suitable" books in the house, and am looking for more.  My parents are always urging me to pick out a book at the bookstore, but I think it's a waste of money unless it's really good..  I rely more on the library.  Please help!  There are a bunch of series out there that I'm scared to try, because I don't like badly written books.  To give an idea of my taste, my favorite author is Andrew Clements, my favorite series is Warriors, I love good fiction, and I abhor bad editing (I've found about 25 typos in Warriors and would like to be a book editor when I grow up.).

No Mary, there are not 40 Seekers books. I've never read Seekers, but I know that there's less of them than Warriors, and there's about 20 Warriors books. However, both series are still being written.

Are you at a fairly high reading level for your age? If so, then you might like the Ranger's Apprentice books.

No... I'd read them in order, Sage. They all have the same characters, so it might be a bit confusing to read them out of order.

YES!!!! I forgot those books. I've read the first four, and they were really good. Good characters, good writing, etc. I loved them. The second and third ones are cliffhangers, though, so be warned.

Definitely Harry Potter, and Gail Carson Levine is a good fantasy author you might enjoy. You might also want to check out Cricket Readers Recommend, where Cricket readers recommend and review books.

Yup... thanks, Allison.  I read the first three books of Harry Potter.  I heard they got scarier and scarier, and I almost couldn't handle Book Two.  (But that was a couple years ago).  Three I read just this winter.  I've also read some Gail Carson Levine, but don't know what all she wrote.

The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles is, in my opinion, one of the best books ever written. Check it out from the library first, but in my opinion, it's worth owning. I like the books by Patricia St. John, but she's a Christian writer, which I don't know if you want. Ditto with Jamie Langston Turner, but I haven't read all her books.

Elephant Runby Roland Smith is really good. i just finished reading it. Set during WWII. Umm. The disreputable histiry of Frankie Laudau-Banks by E. Lockhart. Kinda confusing words but overall good story. Three cups of tea the junior edition. True Story, very deep. read it!

Umm.... Let me see.

Here's some books (and series) that I like.

Books:

Elantris, by Brandon Sanderson, The Little Prince, Momo, Neverending Story (despite it's name, it actually does end), Have Spacesuit Will Travel by Heinlein (now that's one I love.), The Westing Game, The Ribbajack by Brian Jaques, The Anybodies by N. E. Bode (No seriously! That's what it says!) Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, uuuuhhhhhhhmmmmm.......... can't thing of anything else right now.......

Series: (Woo hoo!)

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, Redwall, Howl's Moving Castle & sequels by Diana Wynne Jones, (all of Diana's books are terrific.) My Side of the Mountain (don't get that mixed up with "The Far Side of the Mountain", which is the sequel, I made that mistake and didn't get most of it) The Bartimaeus Trilogy, So You Want To Be A Wizard, the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, uummmmm......... can't think of anything else! (^~^:)V I'll think of more.

P.S. I've never heard of Andrew Clements. My favourite would be.... uh... Robert Jordan or Brian Jaques or Diana Wynne Jones or..... Oh, whatever.
