Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Calm Down
Okay, this is...

Okay, this is not a book I'm talking about, but I want to bring this up anyway. Blab About Books is becoming like the political and religious arguments. When someone comes on who likes Twilight, she's bombarded with anti-Twilight comments, some - no offense - not-so-polite. I agree that there are far too many Warriors threads, but 1) I don't think the Warriors fans are seeing our threads asking them to keep it down and 2) It's a minor annoyance, but it's not the end of the world.

All I'm trying to say is, please calm down, people. I love books as much as you do, and I think that Blab About Books is a great place to talk about them. I just think we should try and be a little more polite when discussing books. And maybe we can try and come up with things we like about books we don't like. Take Twilight. I don't really like it, but there are some good parts about it. Like, um, *wracks brain* well, you get my point. ;)

Yes, I do get your point.

And although I think there are WAY too many warrior Clan threads, I ended up in, let me see, SkyClan, ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, Moon&StarClan(<--?)! That makes 5 Clans that I'm in!! There might be more that I can't remember, though...... I'm not exactly a Warriors fan, somehow, though. I'm more into the Wheel of Time at the moment. (Blood and ashes!!!) (That was from Wheel of Time, so sorry.)

I notice you saying *coughReubencough* when you talk about not-so-polite antitwilighters. I'll try to be nice, OK?

Actually, I wasn't being specific. I was more talking about us as a whole. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. :(

*sigh* *facepalm* (vocab word.) You're right, Lena, and we should tone down the anti-Twilight-ness. But in addition, Twi-fans shouldn't just post that they like Twilight and Edward is awesome. They should explain their reasons for doing so, and then they'll be more deserving of our respect. No?

Warriors... is not just a minor annoyance. It's getting out of control. I, too, respect that the Warriors want their threads... but it's hardly fair to the rest of us, specifically those who have not read or do not enjoy Warriors. Do you agree that we need to do something about this?

Besides, the Warriors ignoring our "no Warriors" labels and trolling our non-Warriors threads is just rude and is creating more tension than it's worth. If we don't want this to develop into a raging argument, yes, we should do our part and try to be understanding and courteous, but they can't harass our non-Warriors threads with trolling and insults and trying to be "cute" or "funny" or "witty" or whatever they think they're doing... /nervous breakdown/

Thank you, Lena. These arguments are getting too heated.

I also am felling badly about some posts that are criticizing other users because of their spelling, grammar, or lack of knowledge on a certain subject. I'll admit that I did post some slightly negative things on chocklitclan, but I now think these type posts should be about the books, not users. So lets keep it decent, okay?

I'm all for niceness all around, and the occasional typo/abbreviation is okay. For instance, at the end of your post you left out an apostrophe in "let's." That's FINE! It's a-okay to make an honest mistake, and I know from reading that post and your other posts that you're an intelligent person who states their opinions courteously and intelligently. But if someone constantly does the same thing OVERandOVERandOVER again, they need to be corrected because either

a) they think that's the correct way to do it and will continue to make the same error until they're corrected

b) they know the correct way to do it and are merely being lazy.

It's not fair to those of us who DO speak (type) English properly to have to wade through colloquial terms that some of us may not even understand. Do you agree, or am I being too much of a stickler?

Why does it really matter, Mary? We don't even know these people! Maybe they have a bunch of bad typing habits and they're trying to type right, and they know they're wrong, but they just keep forgetting! It makes sense if you contradict people you really know, like a sister, but total strangers? What if the person has a learning disability? And as for what you said about Warriors, yes it's out of control, but it seems like there's almost as many threads saying "Not Warriors!" .  I think that the best thing is to just ignore it and post threads talking about other things. I think if people want to talk Warriors, they can. Besides, I bet you haven't even READ these books! However, I think it should be limited to just 4 clans. There ARE TOO MANY.

I agree with Lena. People can be really rude on these threads. But then again, people do have the right to express their opinions. Maybe that's something we should all keep in mind.

Please tell me if I sound hippocritical.

I've been known to occasionally go off at people over spelling/grammar (not on here, though, I think).

I can see where you're coming from with the "maybe they are trying to improve" thing, but on the other hand, excessive text talk is really annoying. I may be biased on this- I learned touch typing really early on- but how hard is it to write "you" instead of "u" or by the way instead of "BTW"? I do use some acronyms- IMHO being my favourite, closely followed by FTW- but I don't use them in every post. I certainly don't omg tipe liek this.

Lena, you're brilliant. This is a perfect way to get everyone to come together. I agree, I do think there could be lesss Warriors threads, but I think, maybe let the people have their fun.

With all courtesy, that is a mite far-fetched, Bookworm. Perhaps some people do have a learning disability or something, and I shouldn't judge without knowing the whole story. But do you really think that's the case? Most likely not; most likely they're just being... well, lazy, don't you think? And if a total stranger is wrong, I think I d o have every right to correct them. If I were to say that the sun is purple, you have every right to gently tell me, "No, Mary Liz- the sun is yellow. How are you feeling?" Do you not agree that this, at least, is true?

*shrug* You're right. I haven't read them. I'm proud of it. Why should I? Besides, for this exact reason- that I and so many others haven't read/enjoyed them- is it really fair to have so many threads on them?

All right, Bookworm's come up with a solution. Limit it to four clans. Yes? No? That sounds genius to me. Let's request that the Warriors keep it to a minimum of four threads/clans. That's perfectly simple and fair to the rest of us. Does anyone agree?

I hope none of this offends anyone.
