I'm making this
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
I'm making this post in reaction to the shocking amount of trolls on the anti-Warrior threads recently.
For those that don't know, trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the Internet, generally on message boards.
Trolling is usually done for lulz, and in the case of a single-topic forum (such as TS), it is tolerable to a degree. However, on a general-topic forum (such as Chatter), it is unnecessary and rude because there are usually threads for and against a popular topic (such as Warriors, in this case); and if there aren't threads for both sides, they can be easily made.
Now. If the diehard Warrior fans want a troll war, I'll happily give them one. I would prefer not to, however, so I politely request that Warriors fans stay off non-Warriors threads, unless they wish to post a non-Warriors comment (e.g, "I love Terry Pratchett" on a thread about fantasy in general, rather than "I love Warriors" on a thread about fantasy in general (newsflash for those who don't know: Warriors en't fantasy, it's realistic (animal) fiction with a dash of cat-religion thrown in).
Conversely, all anti-Warrior people will stay off Warriors threads unless they have a Warriors-related comment (e.g, "I like the first six Warrior books, but I feel that Erin Hunter Jumped the Shark with the next twelve books" rather than "I love [insert other title here]" on a Warriors discussion thread).
Can we all agree to this, please? And, upon agreement, stick to it? I guess this is kind of an anti-troll treaty, of sorts. Of course, the agreement encompasses every title in BaB, not just Warriors (I just used Warriors 'cause that's the most commonly trolled title).
Yes? No?

*bursts out laughing* Whoa, whoa, whoa! Were we just called bumbling furballs?! Um, really?
If that wasn't funny (in an extremely nonsensical way), then I would have to say that this kind of unprovoked (relatively, at least) and un-backed-up is about as acceptable as the bad spelling and grammar policed by poetonearth13 above.
Bumbling furballs... what's with that, anyway? Why? *shakes head, still chuckling*
(May 20, 2009 - 7:14 pm)
...Said the anonymous troller, thus destroying the purpose of this thread. *headdesk*

A bumbling furball? We're being trolled on a specifically NON-TROLLING thread??? Admin, can you please not post those kinds of comments, because we're attracting an awful lot of them, and they're annoying.
If someone is consistently destroying the purpose of a thread and making life miserable for everybuggy, we'll address the problem. We prefer self-policing, where possible, unless the problem gets really out of control.

Well, I wouldn't say it's making my life "miserable," per se, but it is annoying to come home after an irksome day at school, come to BaB in hopes of finding intelligent discussion, and instead find text-talkers calling the intelligent discussers bumbling furballs. I mean, it's fine to call someone a bumbling furball, but unjustified and unprovoked, and on a specifically non-trolling thread- that's sort of annoying.

I do agree with Mary and Lena and TNO, but I kind of think that TNO saying it is kind of hippocritical - I SAW TNO trolling on a Warriors thread.

By the way, Warriors actually is fantasy, because real cats aren't very much like the Warriors ones. Even Hunter (all three of her) admits it! So Warriors on a thread about fantasy is not trolling. But if someone made a thread about oh, say, historical fiction in general and someone said "I don't like historical fiction. I like Warriors better. Warriors is awesome!", then that wouldn't be trolling, would it?

If people troll us, well, we're probably going to troll them right back.
(June 3, 2009 - 4:19 pm)
Oh, dear.... *hides, ready for bombs*
(June 3, 2009 - 5:10 pm)
That doesn't work, you know. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
(June 3, 2009 - 8:16 pm)
Or pirates. ;)
Seriously, though, I agree, and I was out of line trolling that thread. *gives olive branch*
(June 3, 2009 - 10:44 pm)
*accepts olive branch* Piracy wouldn't restore anyone's eyesight though. And seriously, if someone made a thread about historical fiction, and someone said: "I don't like it. I prefer Warriors," would that be trolling? And what about, say, creating a book club on Chirp At Cricket? (I hope not, because I joined it.)
(June 4, 2009 - 2:53 pm)
*breathes deeply* Okay. No one's been doing THAT much trolling except for the Warriors. And they started it. And subject matter on the BaB is constantly the same thing. Day after day.
No. That wouldn't be trolling ("I prefer Warriors" on a hi-fi thread) unless it was specified that no Warriors is to be discussed. Believe it or not, there have been restricted topic threads like that, and, guess what, Warriors have trolled them.
(June 4, 2009 - 4:02 pm)
Not all the Warriors fans troll, you know. Only some, and I agree that they shouldn't. But still, you can't say that all Warriors troll! There're a lot that don't!
(June 4, 2009 - 6:48 pm)
Fine. They don't all troll. But the ones that don't should tell the others to knock it off, because they're giving all the Warriors a bad reputation. Yes?
And anyway, most of the trolling is done anonymously, by, say, "A cat," or "----" or "......" or "Somebuggy" or whoever. So technically, more of the Warriors than we think might be trolling, right?
(June 10, 2009 - 8:27 pm)
Or, since almost all of the Warriors who troll seem to do so anonomously, it could just be one person who keeps doing it. Besides, if they don't reveal who they are, how can any Warriors who don't troll stop them any more than you can? It's not like Warriors can just go: "That sounds like something so-and-so would say - it's probably them!", because there's just too many cats out there! And besides, do you expect trollers to listen to other Warriors any more than they would non-Warriors? Look, I just don't think there's anything anyone can do about the trolling, but maybe if we just ignore them, they'll stop.
