Hey Cho, Cockleburr.
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Hey Cho, Cockleburr. Welcome to this thread, designed specifically for us! (Although anyone else who wants to join in or just comment is welcome.)
Below, I have copied and pasted Cockleburr's comment on Cho's post which inspired this whole thing...
"That sounds like a really good story. Every night, when this girl falls asleep, she is visited in her dreams by a boy. A prince of the DreamRealm. They have adventures together every night, and every day she does her normal thing. She knows that in the night, her friend will come. Eventually, the boy tries to convince her stay in the DreamRealm with him forever, to be his princess. The boy's sister knows that a LifeRealm person living in the DreamRealm will make the connections to both worlds shaky and unstable, so she does all she can to keep the two apart..."
So, feel free to edit this plotline... I've already started writing my story and will post soon.
I was thinking we could all post our own stories and criticize and comment on each other's... this is going to be fun! I'm so excited!

I'm going to try this in third person omnicient about the Dream prince's sister!
~~~
Karianna opened her eyes, and heard a rustle in the other bed. She turned and looked around the gigantic room, over at her brother's bed. It was empty, the covers neatly arranged. He was standing next to the bed, fully dressed.
"Karusan? What are you doing?"
Her brother turned around, surprised, "Shhh... Go back to sleep, Karianna. I'm just getting a drink."
But something about the way he said it made Karianna hesitate. She turned around, and pretended to go back to sleep, but she kept her eyes open a crack, watching Karusan. He walked out the door cautiously, looking left and right, then turning right. Karianna stood up and followed him through the DreamRealm palace.
Their footsteps were silent against the floor, which was made of clouds. The glass walls showed a dark, night sky outside, with silver stars like jems against the blackness. The walls and floor seemed like they were glowing, but Karianna was used to that. This had been her home since she was a baby.
Her brother weaved through the castle, and Karianna frowned with confusion. This wasn't the way to the kitchens. Where was he going? Karianna saw him stop in front of a door, and she gasped, her hand fluttering to her mouth. She hid behind a pillar as Karusan turned around, "Who's there?"
He looked around, the turned back to the door, opening it. Karianna wanted to cry out and stop him, but her voice was caught in her throat. The door led to the LifeRealm... and LifeRealm and DreamRealm could never mix. Karusan was doing it again. Karianna had almost hoped that he would stop it, after what had happened last time... but no.
He disappeared through the door, and a wooshing sound came out. The door snapped shut, and Karianna came out from behind the pillar, moving toward the door cautiosly. She put her hand on the handle, and took a deep breath.
Then she opened the door.
With an elegant swirl of fine robes somebody enters the store: Prince Karusan's sister. She carries a tall staff and wears a lovely, expensive-looking red dress with a full skirt, long flowey sleeves, and gold trim. Her cloak is deep purple on the outside and on the inside I can see red velvet. Her features are similar to Karusan's, but not as kind or delicate. Her lips are thinner and pressed tightly together with anger. Her green eyes are narrow and distrustful. She stalks up to Karusan, glowering.
"Really, Karusan? This is the one?" she scornfully asks him. Her eyes rake over my face criticaly and she adds, "This one won't even last a night. She looks weak."
Karusan scowls at her, "Why won't you ever be satisfied, Katrianna? You drove all the others away! You just want to steal all the power in this place for yourself! Get away from her!" He pulls me into his arms protectively. She sneers at him.
"Oh, Karusan, you niave little boy. I, want all the power for myself? What a thing to say! No, no, no. Much easier for you to simply give it to me."
"I will never, ever give you the rights! Never! Father's will is for me to rule!"
She shakes her head, making little tut tutting noises which irritates me quite a bit. "Karusan, Karusan," she smiles, "mark my words, little boy, one day you will beg me to take the throne from you!" Her smile is far scarier than her scowl.
"Leave!" Karusan scoops up something from the shelf of Egyptian figures and throws it at her. It looks like a shard of green seaglass. Definately not an Egyptian figurine. It shatters at her feet and green light pours from the shards, encasing her in a net and throwing her out the door.
Karusan smiles down at me and I notice with embarressment that I have been clinging to him rather tightly. I quickly let go.
"What was that all about?" I ask, to cover my discomfort. He starts to reply, but an irritating, electric beeping inturupts him. It sounds like my alarm clock.
"Shoot. I hoped we had more time," he mutters, thrusting his hand into his pocket, "Here. Take this." He puts whatever was in his pocket into my hand.
"What is it?"
"A kiss. It's a tradition," his voice is growing faint, but I hear him say, "Meet me tomorrow! Promise me!"
"I promise!" I call to him. The colors of the dream fade. And I am awake.
________________
I lie in bed for a few moments, savoring the dream. I notice something digging into my hand and open it. There is a small acorn button lying innocently in my palm. I gasp and sit up, hitting my head on the upper bunk.
"Ouch!"
My sister pokes her tousled head down at me.
"Wha' happened? You ok?" she asks groggily, blinking the sleep out of her eyes.
"I'm fine! Just hit my head."
"Okey." Her head moves back. I few seconds later I hear her snoring. I study the acorn button. What had Karusan called it? A kiss? That sounds familier. Where has an acorn button been a kiss? My gaze wanders to the bookshelf. It was in a book, wasn't it? Wasn't it... Peter Pan! Of course!
When Wendy sewed Peter's shadow back on she said she would give him a kiss. Peter didn't know what that meant and held out his hand, so Wendy gave him a thimble instead. Then Peter said he would give her a kiss, and he gave her an acorn button! Wendy put the acorn button on a chain around her neck.
I leap up from bed, go to the dresser, and open the top drawer, where I keep my jewlery. I slip a small, cheap, gift shop pendant off it's chain and thread my acorn on instead, then clasp it around my neck.
A tradition, Karusan called it. I will continue the tradition.
That's not how I imagined Karianna would be... but I'll make it work. Kind of. I'll change what she says.
~~~
I felt a sense of dread, with my hand positioned on that handle. It was almost like a part of me was drawing me toward it, and another part warning me to not go through. Because when I went through, I'd change. So dramatically.
My appearance would change, and along with it, parts of my personality. If it weren't for Karusan, my little brother, I would never even go near that door, but curse his curiousity, I always had to go fetch him. Before things went too far.
People had done that before, never with good results. I'd been taught from birth that it was very dangerous on the other side, that DreamRealm people could get lost in the other Realm, that if the Realms mixed, there would be disaster. And I was only trying to prevent it. Only, it was getting harder to control Karusan. He was growing older, and faster, and smarter.
I took a deep breath, and pushed to door open, stepping across.
The world began to spin, making multi-colored, dizzying spirals in front of me. I turned around, but the door had disappeared. Then everything turned red and purple, and a wind began to spin me around. My dress transformed into something red, like fire, and a staff appears in my hands. Purple, velvet brushes against my neck, and I see a billowing cape behind me. I spin a few more times, and feel the change coming on. My lips press together into a thinner line, and flashes of anger show in my eyes. Then the spinning world spits me out, and I walk into a bedroom, where Karusan is talking with a girl, smiling. He looks so at ease, even more than in his own world.
"Karusan." I say gently, "Karusan, come back."
I survey the girl, my new personality side of me finding all the critical parts. She's not exactly pretty, and I would bet that she isn't wise, either. At least, not wise enough for my little brother.
"Not her. She won't last long. She's..." I pause, but I still say it, "She's weak. Don't bother with her!"
Karusan walks in front of her protectively, "No! You drove all the others away. Why her, too? Please, Karianna!"
The girl looks up at me like I'm some kind of monster, and I glare back at her.
"Stop this! You just want all the power for yourself. You do! Father wanted me to rule after he died. Not you! You may be older... but that doesn't mean anything! You're taking my power!"
"Karusan," I look at him tenderly, "Stop it. You're just a little boy. I'm trying to help you, to keep you from making the wrong choices. This is too dangerous. Stop it. Come back with me."
"No! The throne is mine. I get to decide whether the two Realms can combine!"
"Karusan, Karusan. One day, you will beg me to help you make the right choices. You will, if you keep going down this road."
He glares at me, fire in his eyes. The other girl clings to him. I hate her right now. I hate her, so much. If there weren't girls like her, my brother would listen to me, and come to me like he did when he was younger. He reaches into his pocket, and pulls out a shard of sea glass. I wince as he throws it at me. He's changed, too.
A net traps me, confining me, and bright light surrounds me... in a second, I'm back in the castle, breathing hard. He's growing more powerful. Soon, he's beside me.
He reaches back toward the door, and I pull him back, shaking him, "Karusan! Stop! You're not going back!"
He turns back to me, and stops stuggling.
"It's dangerous. Didn't you listen to Father talking?"
"That was so long ago."
"But you still remember."
He hesitates, then shakes me off, "I'm going back to bed."
"Karusan, can you promise me? To not go back again? It's really dangerous. You still have the kiss, don't you?"
He doesn't say anything, and looks down.
I stare at him, alarmed, "No... you didn't!" I grab him again, "You didn't! Tell me you didn't!" I shake him, "Karusan!"
He doesn't say anything for a while, then says, "Grandfather Peter did it."
"And you know what happened!"
He looks miserable, "I know. I know. But... still. I really couldn't help it!"
I walk him back to our bedroom, and put him in bed, looking down at him, "Oh, Karusan. What have you done?"
I walk away, to my bed, and lay down, looking at the ceiling. What has he done? I need to stop him from going back every again.

Alexandra, I hope you don't feel confined by what I write. You can make your own story, with your own interpritation of the prompt! It's fine if you want to go off of what I wrote, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Make the story how you want it to be. Katrianna can act however you want her to. I used the name you chose because you used the name Karusan and because I thought Katrianna fit her well.
