Unpopular Opinion! ...

Unpopular Opinion!

I hate Divergent and Twilight.

I would be OK with debating it with other people.

Why I hate Divergent:

Tris: Tris is a Mary Sue. She never is truly and deeply scarred by horrible things as she should be. She is a flat, one-dimensional character.

Four: Four is an Alpha Male. He is mentally and physically abusive towards Tris and people think that's so hawt!!! If Four weren't attractive, Tris wouldn't end up with him.

The Faction system is interesting but unbelievably flawed and convoluted. Despite the fact that everyone takes a test that sorts them into a faction, they still get to choose.

So a girl who is super nerdy and Grade-A erudite material with NO ATHLETIC SKILL could say, "woah, Dauntless plays games all the time and is teenage wish fulfillment! I wanna go there!"

And when that girl inevitably fails at being a Dauntless, she gets another chance to choose a different faction, right?

NOPE, SHE'S FACTIONLESS, NO SECOND CHANCES!

Also, Dauntless is obnoxiously buttered up. "OOOH, Join Dauntless! We do parkour and games while everyone else does actual flipping work!"

And letting people choose factions is also ridiculous because everyone would choose the kewlest factions.

Why is being Divergent so rare? I mean, everyone on Earth EXCEPT Tris probably has multiple facets to their personality, but nope! Tris is the only Divergent.

Why I hate Twilight:

Bella: Uggh life sucks!!! I'm sooo sad!

Edward: Ur so cool Bella, even though you have no likability or character traits other than biting your lip. Wanna hang out????

Jacob: Hi i'm here to cause conflict

Nessie: Hi i'm here to eventually marry Jacob

Edward: I have 2 go!

Bella: NO!!! Now instead of trying to find you like a strong female heroine, i'll curl up into fetal position cause i'm a damsel in distress!

IN SUMMARY:

Jacob: Durp abs

Edward: Bella is my life

Nessie: (rips open stomach)

Bella: hi i have no character traits

*Grins*

Because that's the way my brain works. For me, the author can be terrible at writing, as long as my brain decides to be addicted to it. Can't help it!

I've never read Twilight, but I've heard so much trash on it that I really want to read it just to see what the fuss is about.

As for Divergent, I read the first because everyone told me it was awesome and I was very dissappointed. I agree with you on most levels, and I'm not going to restate anything, but here's some more:

1. I never understood exactly why Tris and Four are good for each other. When you think about it, yes, they both really have no personality. I like reading about couples who really have a reason to be together-- that's a reason I ship Ronmione, but that's off topic. I think Tris and Four were put together to add more emotional conflict, but the author really could have tried harder at making them match.

2. Every important character is Divergent, which I find really annoying. Hey, Tris? You're Divergent! And right, the love of your life is too! Oh, and so's your mom! But don't worry about any of the minor characters, they're not important enough to have a fluxuating personality! I mean, come on. Plenty of the other characters could have been Divergent too, it just didn't help the plot. I agree with you-- I think most of the characters should have been Divergent, and it really shouldn't have been as rare as all that.

3. Four is, again, incredibly flat. And it really isn't only Tris who should be scarred by their past-- Four should be, too. I understand his abusive father is one of his worst fears, but he's also like, "Oh, I'm Four. I know everything and always know what to do in a situation. I'm not haunted by my tragic past because that would be really annoying to readers. I have to be perfect in every way."

Maybe I'm exagerating, maybe not. But I just didn't like the book. The end.

I completely agree with everything you said, Sigh. But despite the writing I still sort of like Divergent ;)

Ohmigosh, that was hilarious. And yet I have never read either series. Congratulate meh! The second section to the Warriors series is pretty awful, though.

Can I give you a hug? Because it is so rare that I find someone who shares my opinions on books. And I agree. 100 percent. They were just horribly written, with flat worlds and under-developped charries, and just... Ick.

*hugs*

Yes, you can, LOL. I was Sorry...

I just wanted to see how people would react if I wrote that before I revealed my real identity.

Thanks for the hug!

I haven't read either Twilight or Divergent. I don't plan to any time soon. In the case of the first-- hopefully not ever. There are so many wonderful books in the world-- why don't we read those anymore?

This is Jack-a-Nat

For both Twilight and Divergent:

I personally thing that true love just happens, and authors capture that well. I like those two series a lot BECAUSE of the couples, the characters, the plots, and the action. So, I disagree with all of the haters.

I've never read Twilight or Divergent (too busy to read much anymore), but I probably will really soon just to see what the fuss is about. I'm not really picky about characters, I mostly focus on writing style, the plot, and what the characters do. Romance is okay I guess, unless it's just full on intense, boyfriend-girlfriend-boyfriend stuff.

But Sigh, that book review was hilarious.

I don't see the big deal with Warriors. I couldn't even finish the first one. To me, the plot was all over the place and mixed up, the ending (yes I read ahead deal with it) was ridiculous. Basically letting the villian get away? Boo. I also don't like it when the characters can't stand up for themselves (if it's just a tiny bit that's fine, but Ravenpaw shouldn't said something for crying out loud).

I do like to writing style, though.
