CURSED CHILD RELEASE PARTAY!
Last night, I...

Last night, I went to a midnight book release of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script at my favorite bookstore! It was great! I saw lots of people that I knew, including an old friend, did some trivia, took part in the costume contest (I was The Unrepresented Ravenpuff) and was 38th in line to get the script! To be fair, 3 other people were 38th because there were four stations, but I was still happy not to be seventieth)

I read the first quarter of the script last night, and finished it this morning. It was so climactic! I loved the storyline. It was a very unusual kind of plot for JK Rowling, I think, but it was still incredible!

Did anyone else go to a party/get a book/wanna fangirl?!

A bookstore near me had a midnight release party, and I soooo wanted to go (they sound awesome), but my mom's not even letting me read it. Le-sigh.

I got it! I dressed up as Hermione, and went to Walmart right before midnight. (I had church this morning, and the nearest Barnes and Nobles to me is an hour away, so Walmart had to do.) There were about five high schoolers also waiting. We were all super excited, and at exactly 12:01, nothing happened. We waited around a bit, and then my dad went and asked the manager about it. Apparently, the books weren't in at the store yet. They had a display, that had the time the book came out, and all seven other HP books, and coloring books, and the books weren't in! A couple of the high schoolers called the Walmart twenty minutes away, and they had the books. It was way too late for me to go get the book, but one of them offered to pick us up a copy. I finished it this afternoon.

SPOILER ALERT: It was an interesting read, and I'm sure the play was amazing, but I was kind of disappointed. I felt like it lost the "feel" of a HP book. Rowling always did an amazing job juggling a whole bunch of characters, and let us get to know them well, with just small things. I felt like they left out a lot of people they should have put in. I would have loved to see Teddy Lupin, Neville and Hannah Longbottom, all of the other Weasleys, and many more. I understand that this is a script for a play, and plays can't fit in as much as books, but it's still annoying.

Another thing that was lost was knowing exactly what the characters were thinking, as well as Rowling's awesome description. One last thing. I really wish the plot had been more centered around Hogwarts. All the time-turning was a bit annoying.

I know. I also felt that the Harry Potter tone was lost. Nevertheless, it was a great story!

I JUST FINISHED READING IT HALF AN HOUR AGO!!! I had preordered it a month ago.

I'm sure the play is great (it's five hours long though, I found out!!!!) and it was a good plot, though I'd have to agree it lost the HP "feel" because of the fact that it's written as a screenplay. But I was happy to have the returning characters. Irrelevant note: I think I'd low-key ship Albus and Scorpius if it weren't for the fact that Scorpius likes Rose. Keep it up, Scorpius, I'm sure you'll win her over eventually!

@OtR: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, Ravenpuff forever! *high fives* Technically I'm Hufflepuff, and I'm proud of it, but at heart, I'm really a hybrid: Ravenpuff.

Aaah, I heard about the parties but I didn't go! I feel like I should have, it all sounded really fun.

But I got my copy of the book! I didn't pre-order it, but it was (thank goodness) in stock at Barnes and Noble and I snagged a copy! I've only read the first act so far, and it's really breaking my heart. It's so sad . . . !

I LOVE Harry Potter and my friend and I always think about the children of the main characters. I got my copy today; it was delayed. At a store I went to there was a display of the book, but it was completely empty!

I've read it. You're right in that it isn't the sort of storyline Rowling usually does-- because Jack Thorne was really the one who wrote it in the end, and I believe it to be more his style than hers. I thought it only so-so-- the villian was pretty obvious right from the beginning, the plotline was not as exciting or moving as the Books-- which is to be expected, as it is a play-script and not intended to be read off paper, but seen in theater. It was fun to see the characters as they are when they grow up-- but I didn't like even that over-much-- Hermione especially seems wrong somehow. I don't know. :/
