Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book Club!
So here is...

So here is a space to talk about books you are reading/read recently. We will not all read the same book, because some parents might not allow certain books, or you might just not be able to find the book at home/library. To join, you can use this sheet to fill out facts about the book:

Book Title:

Author:

On A Rating of 1-10, How Would you rate It:

Favorite Character:

Basic Plot: (please do not give away any spoilers)

Would You Reccomend It to A Friend:

If Yes, Why:

If No, Why:

What Age Range Is It Appropriate For: (so that we'll know if it's good to recommend it to younger CBers <not that I'm that old myself>)

You don't have to type the parts in parenthese when you fill out the sheet. I will post a book I'm reading later.

Book Title: Divergent Series (trilogy plus another book told by a different point of view)

Author: Veronica Roth

Scale Rating of 1-10: 10

Favorite Character: Tris and Tobias/Four

Basic Plot: This takes place in the future. There are factions: Erudite, Abnegation, Amity, Dauntless, and Candor. They each have something that they value (ex: knowledge). People are born in a faction that their parents are part of, but they aren't in a faction until after initiation. When people are 16, there is a test and the next day they choose their faction. First, they have to get through initiation. Then, they are faction members.

Would I recomend it: Yes

Why: Because it is very well written and interesting. The characters are great and there is and amazing plot.

What age range it is appropriate for: There is kissing and mentions of things inappropriate for younger CBers. I'm not sure what age, but it is a young adult book, so probably 11/12+. That might be too young or too old; I don't know.

I just read that book! I didn't like it that much, but it was okay. Anyway, my favorite character was Christina. She's so awesome! But I think Jeanine makes a great bad guy.

Book Title: The Secret Garden

Author: Frances Hodgsen Burnett

On A Rating of 1-10, How Would you rate It: 10!!!!!!!!

Favorite Character: Dickon... he's such a sweetie

Basic Plot: (please do not give away any spoilers) So, Mary Lennox is this spoiled, sickly girl born in India, who has snotty parents and is cared for by servants and maids. There is a cholera outbreak, which kills her parents and the servants, and she is sent to live with her uncle.

Mary is reaaallly snotty. She finds this secret garden, and spends a lot of time out there. The fresh air is good for her, and she becomes... uh, nicer? More pleasant? She meets Dickon and Colin, and ends up restoring Colin's health. That was a terrible summary, sorry. IT'S A REALLY AWESOME BOOK YOU SHOULD READ IT!!!!

Would You Reccomend It to A Friend: If my friends read, yes! But they don't, so...

If Yes, Why: Because it's awesome! Just kidding. Because it shows how a really annoying/bad/broken person can be helped and turn out okay. It is well written, and guess what! It has some cool pictures to go with it! And, it's a classic.

What Age Range Is It Appropriate For: All ages, Mary is ten herself. There are no bad parts or language, if I remember correctly.

Book Title: An Old-Fashioned Girl

Author: Louisa May Alcott

On A Rating of 1-10, How Would you rate It: 10

Favorite Character: Tom

Basic Plot: (please do not give away any spoilers)

A girl sent to visit her cousins has many amusing times, and becomes endearing for her simple, kind manners. She, a country girl, experiences the unwholeness of the life of her city cousin.

Would You Reccomend It to A Friend: Absoluetly. I've read it at least a 100 times.

If Yes, Why: It is full of fun, it is captivating, full of dresses and theatre, so fun!

If No, Why: No reasons.

What Age Range Is It Appropriate For: I'd say 8-9+, although it might take them a while to finish the book. I am 14 and still enjoy it emmensly.

Book Title: Masterminds (It's a series, but this is book 1.)

Author: Gordan Korman

On A Rating of 1-10, How Would you rate It: Mmm, nine or so.

Favorite Character: Tori... Or maybe Eli.

Basic Plot: The town of Serenity is perfect. It has been voted #1 in the highest standard of living, lowest traffic, and almost everything else under the sun. Eli has never gone past the town's boundaries, and why should he? Everything he needs is right there in Serenity. When his best friend, daredevil Randy, implores him to go bike riding outside of town. Something strange happens, and the next day, Randy is leaving Serenity, leaving Eli with a few cryptic parting words and feeling alone. When Eli discovers Serenity is not all it seems, and with the help of quiet, observant, Tori, brash bully Malik, and smart, tag-a-long Hector, he learns there is deeper meaning to what the town is, who he is, and that nobody is to be trusted, especially not their parents.

Would You Reccomend It to a Friend: Well, naturally it depends on the friend! But, yes, I defenitely would.

If Yes, Why: It's a fairly quick, easy, read, but the writing is excellent. It's intricately plotted, with the plot twists positioned at just the right time, with excellently developed characters. It's actually pretty terrifying in some places. Don't read it just before you go to sleep.

If No, Why:

What Age Range Is It Appropriate For: There's mild fighting, and some gore, especially later in the series. The reading level is easy, but there are some sharp turns, plot twists, and scary moments. So I guess 10+.

Book Title: Pegasus: The Flame of Olympus

Author: Kate O'Hearn

1-10? 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basic Plot: Ok, I'm not very good at giving a plot without spoilers but I'll try.

Here: I'll post the summary, slightly paraphrased.

When Pegasus crashes onto the roof of Emily's Manhattan apartment, her life is  changed forever. Emily is thrust into the center of a chaotic battle between the Romans gods and a horrendous race of multi armed creepy thongs calley the Nirads. She must join forces with a Olympian thief named Paelen, the goddess Diana (Artamis for those of you who prefer the Greek), and her schoolmate Joel to return Pegasus to Olympus and rescue the gods from certain death. Along the way, they will encounter monsters, run from a government agency that is prepared to kill Pegasus, and even fly the Manhattan skyline.....It is all part of the quest to save Olympus' flame.

Ok, that's not vwry paraphrased but still...

Recommend? Yes!!! Omk yes!!!

If yes, why? If u love fiction, fantasy, and legends, ull love this book!! And a lot of ppl I know love that.

Age Range: I'd say about 11+. There's a bunch of blood and injuries and thing like that, but if that doesn't bother u and u r younger, go ahead!!!!
