One of the first places I ever posted on was an HP thread. A person there told me those things.

Voldemort's name is inspired by the French for "flight of death" because his biggest fear was death.

The ones you've read are probably the American translation. They were originally written in FULL-ON BRITISH.

I actually have a "full-on British" version, as you so dubbed it, Somebody. And it makes me really glad to be American (it's about the only thing that does;) because poor British kids, that cover art's terrible, the prints tiny and there's no amusing sketches in the beginning of ever chapter.

-"Voldemort"id pronounced "Voldemor", yeah, the "t" is silent. I NEVER can get that.

-J.K. Rowling's depiction of mermaids is pretty accurate- at least in some cultures.

I actually really have always wanted to read the British set! I know, I know, after hearing your discription I should probably be discouraged, but I WANT TO READ THE ORIGINAL! Even if I don't understand it one bit!

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan (as you can tell by the name).

Ditto that, OtR.

In The Chamber of Secrets movie when the door is opened by those moving snakes, that's real, not CGI! They built that door and those snakes really moved! Movie magic!

Here's another that I love: Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe were all given assignments to write about the character they would be playing (this was before they started filming the movies). Emma turned in a 16 pager thesis, Daniel a simple, one page piece, and as for Rupert, he never turned his in:)

That's so funny. I bet if I had been picked to play Hermione Granger (not that I need to be, considering that I am her) in the movies, I would so do that same thing.
