RICK RIORDAN HAS...

RICK RIORDAN HAS ANNOUNCED HIS NEW NORSE MYTHOLOGY SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, okay, breathe.

So Rick Riordan today announced the coming of his new Norse mythology series, Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard of which the first book will be released Fall 2015! I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED! I've just lost my vigor for Heroes of Olympus, so I have high hopes for this series, and I really just want a clean slate. Fingers crossed!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can't wait for the series to come out! Yeah, HoO has been a bit of a letdown (there's nothing like the original series) and I really hope that the Norse mythology will be better. Wait. Magnus Chase? Where have I heard that before? *prtends to think* RR better not have Annabeth go into a crazy direction.

Butterfly was reading over my shoulder when I clicked on BaB, and when she saw the thread title, she started exclaiming "Rick Riordan died?!!!" She was very relieved to learn the actual thread title.

@ True: I think HoO has been a letdown for a lot of people. PJO forever. My mind went to Annabeth too. I'm not sure if there'll be a connection there or not. Oh gosh, haha! No worries Butterfly, Rick Riordan is not dead! (Last I heard at least.)

I saw the live webcast yesterday, and- wait one second

PLEASE EXCUSE ANY FAN-GIRLING SCREAMING OR SPOILERS

Oh. My. Goodness. WONDERFUL!!! I saw a theory this series will tie The Kane Chronicles, Percy Jackson, and The Heroes of Olympus together. I think that there's a small chance of that happening. I mean, Annabeth Chase? Magnus Chase? I just hope Annnaeth doesn't pop up in this new series. Especially without Percy. If she showed up without Percy, I may just die from sadness.

HOORAY!

Side Note: I actually did wonder if RR died. He hasn't blogged in AGES.

But he has. And the Norse series will be a reality.

I wonder if Annabeth will appear--or, if not her, a long lost cousin? He created Jason as a brother for Thalia, after all; maybe he'll do the same with Annabeth. Though I'm not sure who the Nordic goddess of wisdom is...

Holy smokes; I just realized--

Odin is the Norse god of Wisdom.

Ahem. Yes. This will be very interesting indeed.

@ MaypleSyrup: Yes I have read The Kane Chronicles! It wasn't my favorite, cause I wasn't a fan of the characters so much, but I LOVED Bes and Bast! (They were too funny.)

@ Everinne: Ugh, I know. RR is terrible about keeping up with his blogging. But *cough* I tend to, uh, stock people and fandoms through multiple sources. (Usually cause I find people don't update their blogs often.)

@ Katie: Hmm, possibly, though I'm kind of doubting that it will bring in all the characters. (Have you read the Kane Chronicles/PJO crossover stories, Son of Sobek, and Staff of Serapis? I've only read Son of Sobek so far, though rumor has there's potential of those stories branching out into something else.)

I'm kind of hoping though that there isn't a lot of cross over. I kind of really want a clean slate for this series. Now I DO kind of really want an Annabeth connection here, but nothing major. Just a mention or small appearance or something to tie everything together neatly, but not any major crossover.

I JUST EXPLODED AAAAAAAAAAAA

Ok, post your demigod (Norse) parent! I'd say either Odin or Njord.

My speculation:

And yes, I know what you're wondering. Chase . . . hmm, where have I heard that name before? Isn't that Annabeth's last name? Yes, it is. And no, that's not simply a coincidence. Beyond that, I'm afraid I'll have to leave you guessing.

Was on the web. What I think:

One of Annabeth's brothers (a Chase) grows up and marries a certain woman. She is a Norse goddess. The boy learns this later and goes on a quest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I don't really want too much crossover, though if there are a few references here and there, it might be fun--I liked how in Kane Chronicles Amos referenced the Greek gods in Manhattan.

I hope Magnus is not so far removed as to be Annabeth's nephew. That would make her too old! Well, seem too old.

If I were truly a Norse demi-god, I might be the daughter of Idunn, the goddess of everlasting youth--young looks run in our family genes. However, if I got to choose, then I'd want to be a child of Loki because he can SHAPESHIFT.

Plus, may I add something? Doesn't "Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard" seem WAY too long for a series name? Percy Jackson and the Olympians was long enough. We're going to always have to abbreviate it to MCGA!

Ooh! It sounds so exciting - I should probably read up on Norse myths, haha, because I don't know much about them.

I find myself agreeing wit BHR here, though possibly for different reasons... I loved Heroes of Olympus (except Percabeth!in Tartarus because that got kind of dragged out, Caleo, and  a few minor details), but I feel like Rick Riordan will be beating a dead horse into the ground if he manages to connect this to Percy again.

A couple years ago, my friend's friend was at a book signing and she asked RR if he could do a Norse mythology series. And he said maybe.

I don't like RR, though.
