Sign-ups end August...
Sign-ups end August 1. We would read a lot of books, but the first one would be The Tale of Desperaux. Please, sign up, and if you do, check in every weekend, because that is the only time I can do computer.

I thought we agreed some time ago that we wouldn't make a deadline for sign-ups for things like clubs and everything. Some people might be away on vacation or just can't go on the computer in time to sign up, so I think it's sort of excluding others who wanted to sign up but couldn't. Can we please not have any deadlines anymore? It's kind of unfair.

Um, sure. I'll join, but... I've already read the Tale of Desperaux. I see some people have too, so I guess it doesn't matter.
Are we allowed to suggest books to read for the book club?
Also, I kind of agree with ".." on that maybe it's not fair to attach a deadline to this. I would really HATE it if I missed some CB thing I really want to do because I was doing something else at the time of the deadline. But maybe in this case it's not such a bad thing, I don't know what kind of book club you're having.
Could you please explain your reasons for putting it on? If you can I might change my opinion depending on what the are and what the rationale is.
Also, I don't want to sound mean, but maybe the job of leading the book club is better suited to someone who is on the internet more often (such as myself, but that doesn't mean it has to be me!). Maybe you can be the co-leader or something. Or maybe we'll have a backup person to take over in the event that you can't come online. Again, that helper doesn't have to be me.

I agree with you on the deadline and the suggesting of books. I have a few that I would wish to reccommend to everyone. And, everyone should take turns recommending books, and have a list of who recommends first and so on.
But, Joe, I don't agree with the whole leadership of the bookclub thing. I think it is fine for Earthgirl to do it, as it gives us a deadline to finish the book by, or read to chapter x by.
But, if the co-leader thing works out, I think Earthgirl should be the leader, and pick someone willing as the co-leader. If Earthgirl thinks she needs someone to take over, she will say so.
But, the co-leader should be someone who can take over when she goes out of town, (obviously) and when she is to sick to do it or some reason or other. Joe can do it, as he said, and so can many others. I have an odd schedule, so I may not be a good fit, although I am online quite often. (I am not saying I'd be a good fit for the job.)
Joe, I don't mean to offend you or anything. I am just stating my opinions. Earthgirl will do what she sees as necessary.
