Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Wonder by R.J Palacio
Has anyone read...

Has anyone read the book Wonder by R.J Palacio? It's a very new book, so I would not be surprised if you haven't heard of it before. Wonder is also a popular book right now. The book is about a boy named August (nicknamed Auggie in the book) who enters "normal" school for the very first time at Beecher Prep. He is very nervous, because he thinks that everyone will make fun of his abnormal face. He stuggles with bullying and taunts when really he just wants to be treated and seen like a normal student. This book teaches the values of choosing kind and showing that you are loved no matter what! My reading class read this book together and I really enjoyed it. I think everyone should read it, as it teaches a good lesson. This book is also interesting since it is written in different points of view (meaning one part is told from one character's point of view when others parts are about different character's points of view and is in the first person).

If you have read Wonder before, be sure to share your opinions about it below!

It was a good book. I could only relate to the teenagers, though.

I think Wonder is a super good book. I read it with my book club, and they agreed. In this book, I really liked that the people who were bullying August changed into nicer people, who recognized his differences. I agree, that everyone should read this book.

I read it and I thought it was good.

There was recently an article in some newspaper about how adults are starting to read kids books and the markets are kind of merging, and they used Wonder as the main example.  It sounded to me like they had just discovered Young Adult fiction.  The Printz Award has been happening for thirteen years, it's not like it's a new thing.

Well, adults are even starting to read more YA.  TFiOS, for example, was called one of the best books of last year overall, not just in the little YA niche.

It is quite sad in the beginning, and one part made my reading buddy cry. But it does have a "happily ever after" ending.
